Ideas for 40th birthday Mallorca trip gift bags on a budget

ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget · 25/03/2026 13:57

Looking for some inspiration around what to include in party/gift bags for a 40th birthday trip to Mallorca in September. There are 9 of us girls going but we range in age from 33 to 78 - I have a budget of maybe £20-£30 each but would like to start buying a little something each month so that I don't need to pay for it all at once. I was thinking things like:

  • Mini-hangover kit (although to be fair we are split between big drinkers and not)
  • Personalised bracelet/keyring
  • Small bottle of prosecco or can of cocktail (although our flight is at 6am and we are only 15 mins from the airport)
  • Printed itinerary

They all seem a little bit boring to me though so would welcome other suggestions! I've no qualms about shopping on Shein/Temu, etc. as want to keep it cheap. We already have sashes and not interested in getting t-shirts, etc. as it's not really the done thing in the resort we are in (planning to wear the sashes when we go to the nearest 'party' town)

A raven with googly eyes.
A packet of batteries.
A penis beaker
A jar opener
A ceramic teaspoon rest
An artisanal scotch egg (with twigs)

Buy them breakfast on the plane and a drink on the first evening. You don’t need tat

Sorry didn’t see that, surely you’ll go out once or twice for drinks though, or do you literally stay in the hotel for your duration?

You obviously know your friends and family well, and if they’ll like this sort of thing then go for it.

But one of the posters suggested sarongs, they’ll be cheap as chips from SHEIN - get the same one in different colours and a sun hat for everyone. Or a beach coverup - they’re on SHEIN for about a fiver. You could get all matching if that’s the kind of thing you’re going for.

Do you really want to get Chinese tat sarongs from Shein? You can pick those up when you get there.

This sounds so wasteful- and I really dispute the idea that those objecting are being fun sponges. What is actually genuinely fun about a bag of disposable crap?

cestlavielife · 26/03/2026 10:19

A nice travel set eg cowshed and a,sarong.
The rest is awful tat

franklymydearscarlett · 26/03/2026 10:30

Please don’t buy a load of plastic shit from Shein or Temu like a PP has done. Light up dummies - really?! Sounds really tacky.

on a hen a few years ago I received a pair of cheap but nice pyjamas that I still wear. Useful and not bits of tat.

on another we all received a bag that had girls weekend on it in rhinestones, sounds a bit tacky but it wasn’t, it was a well made black bag with a wide strap that I’ve used a lot since then.
i really wouldn’t bother with a personalised bracelet or hangover kit. People are fussy and won’t appreciate bracelets and they’re grown adults, can bring their own paracetamol.

franklymydearscarlett · 26/03/2026 10:31

I do like your user name though OP!

Once again, we are all inclusive

You can still go out though unless the resort is unsafe obviously, surely you can go out for a drink for your birthday.

TheKateColumbo · 26/03/2026 10:34

I would love a raven with googly eyes!

Delphiniumandlupins · 26/03/2026 10:37

I would like a book (buy from a charity shop) and a tub of Pringles. Maybe a can of a cocktail or G & T.

Whatnameisif · 26/03/2026 10:37

I also wouldn't like random tat, but stuff I personally would like -

A hanky. I'm always short on hankies.
Socks. Mine always have holes.
Good quality chocolate or other edibles.
Paper fan if going somewhere hot. I have one but I always forget to pack it!
WH Smith voucher to buy book at the airport, as a pp mentioned.
Lottery ticket or scratch card.

Delphiniumandlupins · 26/03/2026 10:38

And a hangover recovery kit is a Mars Bar and a can/bottle of Irn Bru

I think you will find it is a Snickers and can of irn bru 😀

I don't like Snickers though I know they cover more food groups than a Mars Bar

Stickthatupyourdojo · 26/03/2026 10:47

Not a party bag but could you get everyone a photo book afterwards as a memento? I did my husband one for Father’s Day and it wasn’t expensive and was so easy to do that I did it from my phone. You can add text underneath the photos and on the cover.

And not planning to leave the hotel grounds at any point?!?

You won’t want my opinion but it sounds like something we did 15 years ago for hen parties. My friends (mid 40s) would definitely prefer the money be used on a boat trip, lounge access, visiting make-up/hair person coming to hotel before a night out etc.)

Fair, I think it is probably the salt and sugar that helps.

This. I would not be happy to be presented with a bag of plastic items, that I would never wish to use. It is unnecessary, and wasteful. Mindless consumerism, imo.

It's a lovely idea and I'm glad you are taking people that will appreciate it instead of moaning.

Things that get used aren't going to add to anyone's luggage much. Small items like face masks, miniatures and hand cream are not going to be wasted or stop their Ryanair bag from fitting.
Have a lovely time x

I don't think anyone on here is moaning , just expressing the despair at a load of unwanted gifts (I;m not going to say Plastic Tat as I'm sure a lor isn't tat but may well be unwanted)

If you gave me Prosecco I;d be underwhelmed as I don't drink alcohol.
Same with lots of toiletries , I will only use what I know to be Cruelty Free so these will likely be discarded unless I do a search up to check or if I know it is .

Not moaning , just don't want it \o/

ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget · 26/03/2026 11:57

Because some people are on a budget we probably won't be eating/drinking outside of the hotel - some of us may go to a beach club but that won't include everyone

@ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget my suggestion of a drink voucher was for the flight. We have a vague idea of who wants to drink alcohol on the plane or not and do the 2 for £12 Prosecco deals or the coffee and snack package for those who don’t want it.

Someone else suggested a mini sun cream which is an amazing idea. I like having one in my handbag so I don’t need to cart a full size one with me all the time.

Going to push face gems again, hard to be miserable wearing face gems! I peel them off and reuse them.

ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget · 26/03/2026 12:13

@Twilightstarbright apologies that wasn't directed at you, I've noted down the drinks voucher for the plane and the mini sun cream! We are staying in a really upmarket resort so if we do go out anywhere we won't be wearing the sashes etc. as it's not 'the done thing' I suppose - so face gems probably won't go down well either unless we wear them on the plane!

OP posts:
ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 26/03/2026 12:16

I would think of:

Face packs to rehydrate/ relax on the plane
Sleep eye masks (easy to buy on Temu)
Ear plugs
Lip balms
Hand sanitiser
Pack of tissues/wet wipes
Small item of jewellery that you can all match, or in birth stone colours/initials.
Rehydration sachets and paracetamol
Scrunchies
Sweets or chocolate

Timespentwithcatsisneverwasted · 26/03/2026 12:19

Book everyone into an airport lounge

Those on a budget would presumably be happier to leave the AI if you're putting £30 per head towards drinks though? And you did mention in your OP you'd be going out to the nearest party town.

I think the airport lounge idea is the best so far and would be a treat for everyone.
