Ideas for 40th birthday Mallorca trip gift bags on a budget

Looking for some inspiration around what to include in party/gift bags for a 40th birthday trip to Mallorca in September. There are 9 of us girls going but we range in age from 33 to 78 - I have a budget of maybe £20-£30 each but would like to start buying a little something each month so that I don't need to pay for it all at once. I was thinking things like:

  • Mini-hangover kit (although to be fair we are split between big drinkers and not)
  • Personalised bracelet/keyring
  • Small bottle of prosecco or can of cocktail (although our flight is at 6am and we are only 15 mins from the airport)
  • Printed itinerary

They all seem a little bit boring to me though so would welcome other suggestions! I've no qualms about shopping on Shein/Temu, etc. as want to keep it cheap. We already have sashes and not interested in getting t-shirts, etc. as it's not really the done thing in the resort we are in (planning to wear the sashes when we go to the nearest 'party' town)

Oh god I would hate that. It is just plastic junk. If you are going to spend that much per person at least make it one nice thing rather than lots of tat that nobody wants or think is fun. I'd rather have one nice face mask than a glow up dummy, or rather a sarong like someone mentioned earlier than a bottle of cheap prosecco that I need to try and get through security at the airport.

In 50 odd years I have never heard of party bags for adults. I thought they stopped around the age of 10?

I'm side-eyeing a pink bag full of plastic tat that I received at a recent hen weekend. Actually there were two as the maid of honour and bride's daughter both did one. Haven't quite got the heart to bin it yet (although the personalised "glass" might come in handy). I'm 62 and was disappointed by the lack of cake wrapped in a napkin 😄

As suggested by a PP, I would pay for one of the meals.

Luggage tags in a nice colour. (NOT rainbow)
or those straps you can put round cases to distinguish them from the rest on the carousel.
Only works if you’re taking check on bags of course. Which I never do.

And if you’re not taking check on bags then definitely no bags of tat

ivy118 · 26/03/2026 08:38

@Snoken. Exactly I think gift bag is ok but the older u get the more useful the things in the bag - for my SILs hen we had 11 adults and they had a lottery tickets a face masks mini chocolate and a shot glass with the date of the hen with watch name - it cost me less than 20£ each and was small enough to put in a handbag at the air port xx

WednesdaysChild73 · 26/03/2026 08:41

Light up dummie? Really 🤪

Twilightstarbright · 26/03/2026 08:53

I got something similar for a hen do in Ibiza. I used all of it:

face gems
sheet mask
voucher for a drink on the plane
fan (paper/wood)
eye mask

The other thing that could be good is those bands to keep towels on sunbeds? Less bulky than the clips.

ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget · 26/03/2026 09:03

The whole point of this thread was to ask what I could include - not whether I should, whether people would want them, etc. (we've done a 50th with the same group before and they loved them but I don't want to duplicate the same stuff)

Some good ideas for those of you who commented other than to berate me. I would rather give people things they would use. And yes, some of them will be hungover, even in their 40s, 50s, 70s....

We're all inclusive so buying food/drinks isn't an option

Oh and my 76 year old aunt still goes out with 'the girls' for coffee every week, it doesn't mean any of us behave like kids still

As you are All Inclusive what about reusable cold cups for the drinks. That’s one of the few goodie bag gifts I’ve actually found useful on this kind of trip, the towel clip things are a pretty good idea too or a book or magazine for the pool.

Reusable cups are a great idea. I’ve got a collapsible one that can live in my bag without taking up any space.

Surely by that age if they’re going on holiday and are expecting a hangover then they will have already packed hangover meds.

I previous suggestion of airport lounge sounds the best option.

Therecordplayer · 26/03/2026 09:39

A voucher for a coffee or drink at the airport
beach towel
book
aftersun face pack

JumpinJellyfish · 26/03/2026 09:45

What about disposable cameras and then you pay to have the pics developed?

Or airport lounge is a great one. Or baseball cap?

I totally agree on the bag of tat. With that per head budget you could get something actually lovely for everyone.

AgentPidge · 26/03/2026 09:48

Myfridgeiscool · 26/03/2026 07:37

Ask the people going what they want in their party bag.
None of us on here seem to want one, they might be the same. I’d prefer a cocktail and a nice photo of us all drinking it rather than a bit of temu plastic.

Same here

Doone22 · 26/03/2026 09:53

It's a lovely idea and I'm glad you are taking people that will appreciate it instead of moaning.

Things that get used aren't going to add to anyone's luggage much. Small items like face masks, miniatures and hand cream are not going to be wasted or stop their Ryanair bag from fitting.
Have a lovely time x

Vicotto · 26/03/2026 09:55

I understand people’s concerns about waste but I think it’s a nice little idea, I’ve had friends do similar for hen do’s abroad and we all enjoyed them!
Lots of good ideas here, other ones I’ve received in the past-
Mini face spray - Avene does a nice mini one
Mini suncream - Ultrasun does a gorgeous shimmer one in a 25ml size
SPF Lip balm
Instant camera
Sweets/mints for the plane takeoff

Hope you have a great time when it comes around!

WhatNextImScared · 26/03/2026 09:56

Yeah I’m another no tat person I’m afraid. But a cocktail or something you’d actually use eg mini suncream/skincare would be welcomed

WhatNextImScared · 26/03/2026 09:57

Ooh yes voucher with access to airport lounge! That’s an amazing treat

TigTails · 26/03/2026 09:59

“Girls”. 🙄🙄🙄

ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget · 26/03/2026 07:31

Thank you for confirming that MN is indeed full of fun sponges 😂

How about making a voucher for a cocktail at a special beach bar?

Moveoverdarlin · 26/03/2026 10:03

I’m 45 and all that tat would be in the bin before the flight home. I may keep a personalised beaded bracelet from SHEIN for my 10 year old daughter though.

I’d say ‘I was going to spend £30 on gift bags filled with stuff from Temu and SHEIN, but then I thought we could put it towards a lovely meal and decent wine for our last night.’

But that’s me.

ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget · 26/03/2026 10:07

Once again, we are all inclusive

GenieGenealogy · 26/03/2026 10:09

Once again, put the £200 towards a boat trip, spa treatments, jet skis - anything extra which is not tat and which won't be included in the cost.

I like the idea of a boat trip or crazy golf?

You'll want to go for a wander to the beach at some point, so a cocktail overlooking the sea?

Moveoverdarlin · 26/03/2026 10:15

ChampagneCharlotteLemonadeBudget · 26/03/2026 10:07

Sorry didn’t see that, surely you’ll go out once or twice for drinks though, or do you literally stay in the hotel for your duration?

You obviously know your friends and family well, and if they’ll like this sort of thing then go for it.

But one of the posters suggested sarongs, they’ll be cheap as chips from SHEIN - get the same one in different colours and a sun hat for everyone. Or a beach coverup - they’re on SHEIN for about a fiver. You could get all matching if that’s the kind of thing you’re going for.
