That’s not going to help them, is it? I saw a suggestion the other day that Farage doesn’t actually want to win Wales because the inevitable woeful track record would kill off any chance of a GE win in 2029. It was from someone I pretty much always disagree with but this makes perfect sense.

Edited

I hope the people shovelling money to Farage see it that way too.

I'd hope they didn't feel they were being in anyway misled or duped by Nigel Farage. What with his track record.

BestIsWest · 26/03/2026 11:27

Trouble is the kind of people who will object to using the Welsh names only will probably be Reform voters (see Bannau Brycheiniog, Yr Wyddfa etc). I seem to remember that Farage might have pledged a return to the English names if Reform get control. So I conclude it’s a deliberate mistake.

Reform have sent out their list of candidates for the Senedd elections using the wrong constituency names. Every single one is wrong.

It is slightly controversial I suppose (not with me) that the new constituencies are names using only the Welsh place names but Reform have used English place names, not always used a direct translation and reflected the Westminster constituency names.

Deliberate? Given Farage thinks Welsh is a foreign language then quite possibly.

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/politics/reform-uk-names-new-senedd-33661303

It’s a deliberate ploy to appeal to Brexit voting types in English speaking areas who hate that some people speak a language they don’t. It’s not all Brexit types either. I have otherwise quite sensible English speaking friends who resent the Welsh language I don’t get it. I think it may come from the time that some pushed the idea you weren’t really Welsh if you didn’t speak it and it got a bit cliquey, but that time has (mostly) gone.

MsJinks · 26/03/2026 11:32

It’s always struck me that Reform are very ‘ingerland’ centric - and the other nations are just subsets of ‘ingerland’ - like bigger counties. Maybe it plays into their England being powerful and ‘ruling’ places, maybe it’s stupidity and a lack of humanities curricula at school. But it’s yet another area to abhor about them.
I recall Brexiteers forgetting NI was part of the U.K. so it’s no surprise.
I expect these nations to be ragingly angry about their approach, as it’s much, much more dismissive of your country than whether you support devolution or not.

That account is absolute gold. It has found out the background of two of my local candidates so far and omg 🤡 🫣😂

I hope Corey Edwards isn't one of them, a photo has emerged of him holding a finger to his top lip with his other arm raised in the air in a Nazi style salute.

Cross post there @BestIsWest !
I do feel they should be barred if they don’t make the correct announcement though. Maybe that’s his background ploy. They appeal to the anti Welsh language vote either way - if they are forced to change it they’ll play the victim about it.

Bloody hell. No, thankfully.

I agree. I think he is trying to appeal to the 'Ingerlish' people in Wales. Those who are actually a bit anti-Welsh. Because let's face it, being English is far superior. He's clearly not trying to appeal to the majority of the country and that just leads me to think he doesn't really want to win.

I saw that too but don't agree. Farage did want to win Wales. When Reform was ahead in the polls in Wales he made a lot of noise about if Reform won Wales it was on course to win Westminster.

Then Caerphilly happened.

Now the narrative has shifted to not winning Wales being Reform's cunning plan. I think right wingers can't bear the fact that Wales looks likely to elect the left again and they have to find a way to denigrate that. As in Reform could win Wales if it wanted to etc.

"I'd have been PM if it wasn't for those meddling muslims"

Bet you any money there will be moaning from the right wingers about this.

Precisely, Jane. Getting the excuses in early.

Reform Scotland continue to struggle with their candidates

Linda Holt who called former first minister Humza Yousaf an "Islamist moron" has quit as a Reform candidate for Holyrood in Fife, citing a lack of support from the party

Sounds very much like a pathetic case of sour grapes really. Farage can’t win in Wales, therefore the narrative is ‘I actually don’t want to win there anyway.’ He also can’t bear to lose face.

and at the same time why waste an opportunity to blame "foreigners" ?

Indeed. Foreigners, including those pesky Welsh people, are obviously to blame for everything. I actually don’t get why anyone falls for his crap, personally.

placemats · 26/03/2026 14:14

Reform are not honest, inept and are unfit for Governance.

BIossomtoes · 26/03/2026 15:28

Common sense at last.

So asylum seekers will be paying more tax than Tice ?

Sounds like a slogan.

MsJinks · 26/03/2026 15:37

But Nige says there aren’t any skilled people seeking asylum so how did this happen!

I’ve referred to the work the BMA does to get asylum seekers upto speed as drs here before on ‘those’ threads, but not many seemed to credit it.

Hope it’s broadcast more widely.

SerendipityJane · 26/03/2026 15:42

Remember the only "immigrants" that Nigel really knows are people like Tice. And to be fair they put fuck all in the UK and take, take, take, so you can see why he might think that.
