Ooh. They have finally announced candidates. I am going to have a look at who they are trying to foist on my area.

Edited

Foist? Are you saying the elections will be unfair?

DuncinToffee · 25/03/2026 20:28

We got a Reform leaflet today, I have duly returned it by freepost.

Not at all. But Reform have a habit of dropping in people who aren't actually part of the community they are purporting to represent - Matt Goodwin was a perfect example of this in Gorton and Denton.

And so far, in Wales Reform have signally failed to acknowledge one really important fact: people value their Welsh identity. So what @PandoraSocks is wondering is whether Reform is going to drop in another lot of incompetent English folk with no ties to their would be constituencies. Secondary to that is the continuing saga of Reform's most excellent vetting processes, so we are all agog to see what will come bubbling up out of the sewers of their social media histories. It's fascinating stuff.

I am having a hard time finding out much about the candidates but one certainly seems to fit that bill so far. Another seems to be an ex-Tory councillor from England. But not certain on that one yet.

Also Farage thinks us Welshies are foreigners apparently.

I wonder, not, how Nathan Gill is holding up in prison.

Mark Reckless, his pal or not may know, or not.

BestIsWest · 25/03/2026 22:49

Ours is, of course a former Tory and previously stood in the GE as the Tory candidate.

I'm sure he will be so much more popular in a different shade of blue.

Four seasons in one day.

Speaking of Four Seasons, I’ve just come in from singing in the Welsh premiere of an opera adapted from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, which makes it a warning about ignoring the power of nature. It was fab but rather exhausting! Relaxing with wine and brainless tv while catching up with this thread. Lots of nature here too. (Well, squirrels).

Election leaflets in foreign languages would be banned under Tory plan

The Conservative Party argues issuing campaign literature in "not native" languages is a deliberate ploy to exclude other voters.

I don’t know why they don’t just merge with Reform and have done with it.

Notonthestairs · 26/03/2026 08:24

Well I for one would love to see Jenrick and Badenoch reunited. And I’m sure Braverman won’t carry a grudge given the comments about her mental health.

PandoraSocks · 26/03/2026 09:10

"Tory leader Kemi Badenoch said: "Campaigning with different messages in a foreign language is a deliberate ploy to exclude those who do not speak that language.

"It is not in the service of integration. It is about cynically driving a wedge between groups." "

Fuck off Badenoch, you bigoted, irrelevant, bandwagon jumping excuse of a politician. Why are you so suddenly against this, hmm? Still smarting from the Gorton and Denton deposit loss?

He said non-native languages so that probably depends on whether he considers Wales to be part of the British Isles.

Reform have sent out their list of candidates for the Senedd elections using the wrong constituency names. Every single one is wrong.

It is slightly controversial I suppose (not with me) that the new constituencies are names using only the Welsh place names but Reform have used English place names, not always used a direct translation and reflected the Westminster constituency names.

Deliberate? Given Farage thinks Welsh is a foreign language then quite possibly.

That’s not going to help them, is it? I saw a suggestion the other day that Farage doesn’t actually want to win Wales because the inevitable woeful track record would kill off any chance of a GE win in 2029. It was from someone I pretty much always disagree with but this makes perfect sense.

It's paywalled for me but from what you've said it shows utter contempt for their electorate.

Disconnecting electricity prices from gas prices is probably the single simple and most effective thing they could do. The UK pricing system is irrational.
