North face coat, 240quid. Would you spend it on your dd13?

No

And it will get nicked if it's left anywhere

Have you already bought it? If not, north face send you a 10% off code when you sign up to their website so you could make a new account and save yourself a little. I’ve had my north face coat about 10 years and it’s kept really well, I know someone that had theirs fixed too so they have good service

Yes and yes we bought it in store
so technically it was 216 but I would have spent the 240 anyway 🫣

Where I am the kids would not be seen dead in north face anything, known to be a chavvy type of clothing so no cos they wouldnt wear them even if I did want to part with that kind of money.

Yes, and I did with both dds, only for them to look just like everyone else.
Insane isn’t it! Invest in a good marker pen and make sure the label is marked.

This is a joke surely?

Oooh where do you live, might look at moving, it’s all north face, carharrt and dry robes around here!

No, I wouldn't spend that much on a coat for myself, never mind a 13 year old. I'd look on Vinted or ebay or something and probably still decide they were way too much money.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 21/03/2026 21:57

I have acquired my son’s old north face coat and it’s great. At 13, your DD might not even grow much more- I had finished growing by 12 and like you said, you would wear it anyway if she grew out of it so it’s win/win. It won’t get wasted.

Dry robes here too but we are by the sea and I am in Ireland although the north face in some parts is seen as practical as it would be colder but where I am north face, canada goose etc are all seen as drug dealer wear so kids tend to veer away. My kids and their friends that is.

OriginalSkang · 21/03/2026 21:59

I got my DD a North Face coat on Vinted

MonaChopsis · 21/03/2026 22:01

Single mother, don't earn much.

Yes, I did... DD was 14 but I would have bought it for her at 13 had she asked then. It was a combination of new coat needed and Xmas present.

Three winters later it's still used almost every day, looks good, and enables DD to 'fit in' with her peers in a way I can't always afford. Outerwear definitely the best bang for your buck with that! Absolutely no regrets.

funny that, very similar areas,
I never see Canada goose here though, it’s all north face, paragon, Colombia etc.

They're a good quality brand and the loose fit gives growing room. They're super warm and skinny kids often have to stand around a lot in the playground and streets.

Money well spent and they can be passed on or resold.

user1476613140 · 21/03/2026 22:10

No.

didgeridid · 21/03/2026 22:17

Absolutely not. I wouldn't buy insanely expensive clothing for a season or a fleeting fashion statement. For example, my girl wants DMs and I will get her some - when her feet stop growing

London probably. North Face is Roadman here.

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 21/03/2026 22:22

My DD wanted one. She is utterly ruined and totally spoilt, but I drew the line at this. I think they look awful. She has a similar coat from M&S (bought about 18 months ago, £39) which she wears for school, but if I'm forking out £230 for a coat it needs to be bloody marvellously elegant and stylish, not some tacky nondescript puffer. She saved up for a Longchamp bag and if she saves up for a North Face then that's her business, but there's no sign of her doing this. I think in her heart of hearts she knows it's a waste of money.

I don't think kids have any business having £230 coats. They need some stuff they don't need to be 'careful' of, that can be used for goal posts, kicked around on the floor of the bus, stuffed into a locker, rammed under the seat at the cinema etc. They have enough on keeping their ridiculously expensive phones safe, without worrying about someone nicking their coat, too.

Hohumitsreallyallthereis · 21/03/2026 22:34

No I don’t spend that on my own clothes, and I don’t think it does kids any favours. When my kids want that kind of stuff I contribute what I’m happy to pay and if they really want the item they take the rest out of their pocket money savings. Mostly they don’t.

labradorservant · 21/03/2026 22:53

I got my DC north face off Vinted. DS at uni, everyone in North Face.

North Face = Road Man - that's why they all like it! 🤷‍♀️

MsAmerica · 21/03/2026 22:55

Of course not. I have no idea why anyone would overspend on any clothing for a child who's still growing.

thecomedyofterrors · 21/03/2026 22:58

No way!!!
