North face coat, 240quid. Would you spend it on your dd13?

Nope, my dd's NF puffer was second hand, pristine and £10. She wears it constantly and loves it.

No. It's a trend.

It's already been quite an extended trend - as in several years. And you're getting quality, not just a label.

houseofchaosandclothes · 21/03/2026 23:00

I have a north face jacket bought LONG before they were trendy as tactical camping gear and it is good as new. I would wonder bit about buying big though- my mother did that with my school jacket when I was 12, it was two inches long at the sleeves. Found it in my parents house recently and it’s still 2 inches long at the sleeves and I’m 42, I was 5”6 at 12 and I haven’t grown since.

Yes. Years ago, when our son was that age, we spent about £180 on one. He loved it and looked after it. I was just happy that he’d actually wear a coat to school after not wearing one for years. 😂

I think the most expensive coat my daughter has ever wanted was about £100 and we bought her that. They’ve both had other expensive clothes, accessories, fragrances etc. We can afford it so just saw it as just part of being a teen.

If you’re happy to buy it, it’s no one else’s business.

Of course not. I have no idea why anyone would overspend on any clothing for a child who's still growing.

No idea? I’m sure you can think if you try. 😉

Never

London probably. North Face is Roadman here.

Not England at all but I googled roadman and yes we have a cohort of 'roadman' here known as yupbro's!

JustAnotherWhinger · 21/03/2026 23:07

I did for DD1 at 13. £170 on a coat that she retired grudgingly two years ago as one of the seams started to leak. She finished uni last year.

Wouldn’t have spent that on DD2 (her record was leaving 4 coats on the bus in one week - and then leaving her jumper on the bus when going to the lost property to pick up said coats) or DS1 as his coats were mainly used as goal posts and very rarely actually worn. For 3 years he only had one ad the school rules said he must carry one. He never wore it.

I knew DD1 would both wear it and take care of it.

paoaoo · 21/03/2026 23:25

I would, and I did.she will have one more year out of it, easy. So third winter in…£80 a year… approx £7 a month xx treat the child if it’s deserved

London probably. North Face is Roadman here.

That's reminding me of another phrase our DS used about North Face and similar. 'Logos are roadman'. Re London: students in London don't seem to wear North Face.

TheChaserSun · 21/03/2026 23:37

Only if it is down, has a hood and embroidered logo.

the one my oldest had, ended up with the logo peeling as it was vinyl, we exchanged it for another

I don't think many teens are concerned about the quality or longevity of the product.

Doteycat · 22/03/2026 00:02

Bought one for my dd 4 years ago and it is as good and as puffy as the day it was bought. Worth every penny and she still wears it.

MsAmerica · 21/03/2026 22:55

Of course not. I have no idea why anyone would overspend on any clothing for a child who's still growing.

But many dont consider 250quid over spending.
Might be an hours pay to some. Thats not overspending.
Your benchmark is not mine.

It’s definitely down with a hood…no idea on the label right now.

Probably no. Even if my child 'deserved' it, they can forget it in a bus or it can be stolen at school.

Statsquestion1 · 21/03/2026 20:14

I don’t think she’ll grow out of it that fast it’s a women’s M…it fits me and I’m 40 😂

I got a North Face at the age of 15 and only got rid of it recently at the age of 33!

ThatFairy · 22/03/2026 06:58

No. You're paying money for a logo. I bought a decent, nice fitting rain jacket out of a camping store for £10

WorkCleanRepeat · 22/03/2026 07:05

I would if that's what she wanted. Probably as a birthday or xmas gift.

(You dont really see them worn round here anymore. I assumed they had fallen right out of favour with teens)

bettydavieseyes · 22/03/2026 07:06

No. The last coat i bought my 11 year old was £10 including postage on vinted and my 9 year old's coat was £8 also 2nd hand. Both coats are beautiful and a size up. I wouldn't even buy a new coat unless it was a birthday or xmas spend and they wanted it very badly but in that case I would still have a sensible limit. £240 is wild. I couldnt justify it.

outofofficeagain · 22/03/2026 07:06

I bought one on Vinted for £100. He was bored of it the following year so we resold it for the same price

PersephoneParlormaid · 22/03/2026 07:08

No.

HollyhockDays · 22/03/2026 07:29

Yes. I was aghast at the price. He got it for his birthday. It’s warm and he wears it a lot in the the colder weather.

ViciousCurrentBun · 22/03/2026 07:44

There is the worry of it getting lost at school or worse nicked. I could have bought one because we lived a 5 min walk to the school and DS never wore a coat to school come rain or snow. We are up North and it is incredibly rare even in minus temps to see teens wearing coats.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 22/03/2026 07:44

I bought a ours on Vinted
