Funny names for random things in your house

Do you have any funny names for random things in your house that have just stuck?

Today I shouted from upstairs asking DH to put the washing out. I said to him that "the spin-a-poo-poo is upstairs" as if this is the most normal sentence in the world! It's only when I thought about it that I laughed. If anyone outside of this house heard me they'd think I'd lost my marbles. Our children (now 14, 16 and 19) called the laundry basket the spin-a-poo-poo when they were little and it shall now forever be known as that 😂

Are we just a little weird alone?!

A messy- is a napkin for us. Why did they call it a spin a poo poo- I am sure there was logic?

HumerousHumous · 21/03/2026 15:27

The laundry basket is called the aday, because when I moved into my first flat, I was knackered, staggered in carrying a laundry basket full of heavy stuff and said to my partner ‘oh let’s get this in and call it a day’. So we did, and still do.

Nee-narh.

Never emergency vehicle. Where is the nee-narh (for pulling over), which nee-narh is it (fire engines are rated higher, then police bikes, no idea why). I just have a mental block and can't say anything different if I hear that siren.

DragonsAndDaffs · 21/03/2026 15:42

Rice cakes are called "puffies" as that is what 19 year old DS called them as a toddler.
