Flew out to our Villa two weeks ago.. had to nip back home for an appointment on Sunday... flew back Tuesday. Flight was 3 pm. Two women mid to late 40s travelling in pjs . One set from Tu..l know because l have the same .. other womens was shein or temu.. it didn't look like they were running late or anything.. both had full face of makeup and hair styled lovely... no slippers but one in trainers.. other in sliders.. my companion told me they had seen women before flying in pjs. What are your opinions?

I don't care because I'm not interested in what others are wearing, I'm too busy looking at myself! However I do notice obvious slippers and that's verboten to me!

Loose elastic waist bottoms and a t shirt with zip up fleece or cardigan is my uniform for travelling.

I know it's each to their own, but I can't for the life of me see how jeans are comfortable, but maybe that's my belly screaming that they dig in to me! Oh and a half zip fleece/hoodie? No, no no. Getting it on and off would do my head in. Full zip or buttoned cardi for ease of stripping down for me. 😊

No I wouldn't. I think it's slovenly. There are plenty of comfortable clothes that also look smart.

GoGoSuperBug · 12/03/2026 11:08

No, I wouldn’t. I would wear something comfortable for a night flight though, leggings and a hoody but not PJs

God no! It’s lazy & slovenly. Not even bothering to get dressed shows they’ve no respect for themselves and others.

Edited

Well they have got dressed, just in pyjamas!

2Rebecca · 12/03/2026 11:22

I wouldn’t. What I wear depends on flight duration and destination. New Zealand different to Norway.

Octavia64 · 12/03/2026 11:25

They hand them out for free in first and business so clearly some people wear them.

tutugogo · 12/03/2026 11:27

Well the contestant on house of games yesterday was wearing what looked like pj’s yesterday, i suspect they were meant to be daywear and very expensive but to my eye they were pj’s! I suspect this is the case on the plane too

Bjorkdidit · 12/03/2026 11:31

I think LBA has become infected by the 'Liverpool look', I flew from there a few weeks ago and there was a group of young women on my flight with their hair in rollers or rags. Some of them were wearing pyjamas too.

I wouldn't wear pyjamas anywhere so don't own any. I'm always surprised about how many people do, aren't you boiling in bed?

Everlil · 12/03/2026 11:34

I have, they get handed out and I change into them and have a lovely sleep. I’d say it’s much easier to change into them before you get on the flight than have to do it in a tiny airplane toilet.

maddiemookins16mum · 12/03/2026 11:35

I wouldn’t, it looks a bit…errrr common. That said I remember the days when we wore our best clothes on a flight to Majorca back in the days of Courtland and Dan Air. I wear joggers and a hoodie now (still recall the time I flew in my size 10 tight jeans and lived to regret it).

ClaredeBear · 12/03/2026 11:36

It wouldn’t bother me. I’ve seen people travel back in beach wear, so…

Excellent point!

Bananalanacake · 12/03/2026 11:40

If they give you PJs I wear them, I fly first class with Lufthansa once a year, the PJ bottoms are plain black, I wear them as everyday wear.

Spaghettion · 12/03/2026 11:40

No I wouldn’t, I also wouldn’t do the school run/go to Tesco or ever go anywhere further than my own garden in pyjamas.

Friendlygingercat · 12/03/2026 11:42

Many years ago (1960s) my sister pinched my last pair of tights and I had to travel wearing stocking and a suzzy belt. Never again! Fortunately it was only a 3 hour flight.

Last time I flew long haul I travelled in jogging bottoms, a hoodie and trainers. The main consideration is to be comfortable and not to wear anythig floaty which will get caught in things. It does not bother me what other passengers or shoppers wear. I cant say I have ever really noticed. Many modern pants could well be pjs.

latetothefisting · 12/03/2026 11:42

no, but mainly because it would feel really weird to wear a bra under pjs (and couldn't go out without one) and most of my pjs are very scruffy.

I don't really see why people can't just wear loungewear instead, as that's usually thicker and designed for outdoor use, and won't have people judging them, but as long as they're fresh pjs who cares? If they are literally the ones they wore to sleep in/plan to wear to bed after a full day of travelling, that is grim.

sallymonella · 12/03/2026 11:45

I don't own any, so no. But I'd definitely wear them if I was given them on the plane and flying over night.

I wear yoga pants and a t-shirt, which are basically the same thing anyway.

I don't understand why some people dress up to fly, like it's the 1950s and flying was a luxury. It's like getting dressed up to get on a bus these days!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/03/2026 11:48

I’m more amazed that someone has a villa they can just nip to and fro from.

How the other half live eh?

GingerKombucha · 12/03/2026 11:50

Never for short haul but long haul overnight I usually get changed into pyjamas before getting into bed and get changed again before breakfast - I do choose something like plain black though so it's not too glaringly obvious.

youalright · 12/03/2026 11:53

I wouldn't but if I see someone who did i would think what a great idea i certainly wouldn't judge as I usually wear joggers and a hoodie on flights so not much difference. Planes are uncomfortable enough in economy without making it worse for yourself

Peridot1 · 12/03/2026 12:03

I haven’t ever noticed anyone in obvious pjs other than the ones handed out in business or first class but have seen people change into something more lounge wear like.

I just travelled back from Australia and changed into black loose joggers and a long sleeved black top. Had a shower when I got home and put on black pjs that looked very similar! But I wouldn’t have felt comfortable wearing them in the plane.

Did once see a couple change into pjs in their seats on a Lufthansa flight…..

Pe55yP00 · 12/03/2026 12:07

Never seen anyone in PJ's just some lovely Track suits/ lounge wear. However, I have seen women with Big Hair curlers in, that I thought was different!

Gelajel · 12/03/2026 12:11

I wouldn't think it was odd to see it on an overnight flight. I wouldn't want to wear PJs myself in public, but I feel comfy enough in my usual clothes that I don't wear anything different on a flight. I often wear jeans, they feel comfy to me as I live in them and they aren't tight.

Dinoswearunderpants · 12/03/2026 12:14

I just can't understand this! Unless it was a prank between the two of them but no I'd never do it.

I change my DS4 into his pj's before a flight if it's a night flight but he then changes into clothes before we land.

It's the same with seeing people at hotel breakfasts in pjs, including kids. No need for this! I put my DS in his clothes from the day before for breakfast if I'm concerned about him getting messy.

Happyjoe · 12/03/2026 12:15

Nah, PJ's outside are a bit naff. Started with dropping kids off to school, then a quick nip to supermarket and now planes?!
