That's according to BBC news. Can't say I'm sorry.

Now his real sentence begins - in hell.

No it doesn't, he's dead. Hell doesn't exist. What an odd thing to say

Being quite rightly opposed to state sanctioned murder as standard, isn’t the same as feeling indifferent or pleased when one violent, murdering scumbag wipes out another.
And I think you’re being obtuse by saying Ian Huntley’s killer has hero status on here.

How about you read the posts from those who are calling for him to be given a medal then. Oh really?

Good riddance Huntley | Mumsnet

So the child murderer Ian Huntley is dead, finally. Pity it took so long, i hope he died in pain and terror, and a medal to whoever did it. Karma some...

Now his real sentence begins - in hell.

It's the only justification for heaven & hell. That he'll suffer for eternity in damnation.

IThinkPink · 07/03/2026 15:24

LizzieW1969 · 07/03/2026 15:13

You must know that he didn’t kill Huntley out of any sense of justice, though? It would have been for notoriety; we know he wants that, as he denied raping his pregnant victim and forced a trial to take place. Why else would he do that, when he was already going to prison for murder?

Or else it might have been a grievance over something else.

Most likely ime it will be over ‘something else’

ZoeCM · 07/03/2026 15:24

I read a post here on MN a few years ago from a woman who killed a man by dangerous driving:

I was coming home within a couple of months and honestly prison while it had some very dangerous elements (I saw 2 suicides, and was housed with rose west) on the whole it was like a holiday camp. 3 hot meals a day, laundry done for you, cheap items like cigarets, snacks, make up... DVD player, library, we even went outside to sunbathe in the summer. Pool tables play music as loud as you like.
Open prison was just beautiful no locks, acres to walk around, big lounge with sofas, games, table tennis table. Zumba classes, karaoke machine. We literally got to do what's we wanted for 90% of the time. The only thing hard about prison is the time away from your family and the possible issues around housing and children If you have no support.

Obviously this could be a troll, but judging by the rest of the thread she sounded sincere. I was quite taken aback, because I'd always thought the whole "prisons are glorified holiday camps" trope was a Daily Mail myth.

IThinkPink · 07/03/2026 15:27

I could unpick all that for you….give the truth without making it sound ‘holiday camp’

Mamamamamm · 07/03/2026 15:28

Good. He was murdered too. First time I’ve seen karma come full circle.

I hope this now means that photos and news articles about him and the equally evil person who did this to him will stop appearing everywhere , because I can’t imagine how distressing this must be for the families of their victims .

One Ian Huntley thread is enough for me, thanks. I’m guessing anyone posting elsewhere on Mumsnet glorifying a proven murderer has had their arse well and truly handed to them, and rightly so. I refuse to believe he has ‘hero status’.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 07/03/2026 15:32

I wonder when he was being attacked and knew he was being over powered, if he thought that was exactly what he did to Holly and Jessica.

Apparently he was attacked from behind with a metal bar and never regained consciousness. So no, he wouldn’t have suffered at all.

The concept of hell is too horrific to think about. I'll never understand how people can be joyful when they believe someone has gone there - yes even someone like IH. You're happy that someone is burning for all eternity? OK, so what kind of person does that make you?

That's a nice story, but there's no evidence for any of it.

This. All I have thought about since last night is how the Wells and Chapman's must be feeling at having to see his face all over the place again and even worse when it's placed next to the photo of their daughter's, as nearly all the newspapers have done.

A simple paragraph in the paper to say he died on this date after being attacked in prison and the same with the TV reporting, without any photos or footage being rehashed would do the job sufficiently.

Sarah2891 · 07/03/2026 15:40

Sailawayx · 07/03/2026 15:05

@shuggles @Lifeomars @Sarah2891 nowhere in my comment did I praise the man for his previous convictions. I do however, condone his actions of IH.

How easy your lives must be, to cherrypick strangers comments on the internet and twist the narrative. There are much bigger problems in the world. Maybe give them your headspace.

You said :

"Good job on the person who bided their time and went in for justice. A punishment long deserved."

That sounds awfully like you are still praising a vile person to me. He deserves no credit for anything.
And don't be an ass. My life is shit but I still won't praise a murderer.

ChrisMartinsKisskam · 07/03/2026 15:40

I’m glad he’s dead

I hope that he felt every single hit with the iron bar

I hope he felt scared and helpless like Holly & Jessica did

There are other prisoners in prison that shouldn’t be breathing fresh air either for the crimes that they have committed
hopefully something similar will happen to them as well

the only people I feel sorry for are Holly & Jessica’s family
They will never ever get closure from their children’s murder

CapacityBrown · 07/03/2026 15:43

IThinkPink · 07/03/2026 15:05

What privileges have they been given?

TV, DVD player, extra food money, extra phone credit etc. Huntley had a games console in his cell too.

Frankland isn't an open prison though. It's Category A. It's also the prison where wrongly convicted Andrew Malkinson was held for at least part of his sentence.

It's very much the case that not all prisons are equal. I've been inside HMP Whitemoor, which is a maximum security prison housing serious offenders, including sex offenders and murderers. It is absolutely not a holiday camp, it's hellish.

Those aren’t anything new or special though?

all prisoners are able to work to gain those….all part of IEP which are standard and available to all

A nasty bitch.

I've just had my Thames Water bill which has put me in a bad mood. I hope the CEO and Senior Management and their greedy bonuses all go to hell for the misery they put people through in trying to pay their bills. It's not like in the UK there is a shortage of water! It almost rained every day in February.

RobinEllacotStrike · 07/03/2026 15:47

Yay!

Topseyt123 · 07/03/2026 15:47

I don't condone vigilante behaviour, nor think it is ideal that one prisoner can attack and kill another, but I can't say that I am at all sorry he is gone either.

CapacityBrown · 07/03/2026 15:48

Really the name of Huntley's killer shouldn't have been made public, that would prevent him from gaining fame outside of prison. I couldn't care less if he gains fame or support from other killers and paedophilies in prison.

How would you stop it becoming public knowledge though? You couldn’t

And he was not ‘going for justice’, what makes you think Russell cares anything about that? It would have been due to a grievance about something else.
