That's according to BBC news. Can't say I'm sorry.

Well, at least the prisoner killed another prisoner, and not a guard. So it worked out quite nicely this time.
The issue is that next time it might be a guard, and so for that reason alone, it's not great that prisoners can get their hands on weapons so easily.

What's quite nice about someone who's been convicted of rape and murder, being able to keep on murdering , despite being convicted and incarcerated?

Surely, by any conceivable measure of punishment or rehabilitation, that must count as an object and total failure of our prison system?

Prior to the attack he was enjoying life in prison and became known as a "moaner", this has come from staff who have been speaking to the press.

So for the 20+ years behind bars he wasn't suffering.

"Prior"

One thing that's bugging me is I read earlier that last year he'd been wearing a Manchester United top around the prison and eventually had it confiscated.

I'm guessing that someone must've given it to him, but why on earth would they? Obviously there are people who like to try and befriend notorious prisoners (I believe Peter Sutcliffe had a few marriage proposals) but I guess I thought Huntley's crime was so sickening that nobody else would sink so low to endorse it.

Quite. I mean murder is murder regardless of who it is you’re murdering.

IThinkPink · 07/03/2026 15:56

Where did you hear that? Football or sports team items are not allowed in prisons

even visitors can’t wear them.

Wasn’t Levi bellfield looking to get married?

I suspect that the scum who murdered Huntley will probably attract a few marriage proposals now as well.

Derbee · 07/03/2026 15:56

Glad he’s dead. Now prison and hospital costs are over. Just dread to think how much will be spent on enquiries/safeguarding etc

something2say · 07/03/2026 15:57

Yes I heard that too, that he was taunting the men in prison by wearing a Man U T shirt with the number ten on it, celebrating what he did and rubbing people's noses in it, thinking he can walk about going 'ner ner' to other dangerous men.

It's toxic masculinity that he died by the hands of another violent male. But what a dreadful thing to do, to boast about killing those beautiful girls. I am not sad that he no longer has breathing space on this planet.

Ironfloor269 · 07/03/2026 16:00

yes!!!!!

^ This could actually be an excellent and efficient way to solve the overcrowded prison problem: Two violent (beyond a reasonable doubt) prisoners house in the same cell with one weapon left overnight... Cell door not opened until there is only one... I like it.

Peter Sutcliffe’s crimes were horrific too, and there were so many of them. I remember the days when he was at large; I grew up in Yorkshire and women and girls were living in fear.

Sailawayx · 07/03/2026 16:07

@Sarah2891 as I said, but I will say it again as you seem to be continually cherrypicking, I totally condone his actions towards Ian. I completely agree with his actions towards Ian. I am in favour of his actions towards Ian. Just because you are trying to twist the comment, it doesn't make you right. I am in full favour of his actions towards Ian.

Would you have condoned Huntley's actions if Huntley had killed him?

DotAndCarryOne2 · 07/03/2026 16:18

The killer was a complete piece of shit. Killed a pregnant woman and her baby, and only attacked Huntley for the notoriety it would bring him. I don’t feel any sympathy for Huntley, but we don’t have the death penalty in the UK, so it feels wrong that he effectively suffered it at the hands of another prisoner who was clearly just as much of a shitbag as Huntley in his way.

FloofBunny · 07/03/2026 16:19

Devastated.

viques · 07/03/2026 16:22

LakieLady · 07/03/2026 10:35

I'd have preferred him to have lived to a ripe old age, and being in constant fear of being beaten up or killed.

I think that would be worse than being beaten over the head.

I agree. He had already been attacked a number of times, his life must have been hell and I wish it could have continued to be so.

There are some prisoners for whom prison should be seen as a place and time to rehabilitate and turn their lives around, and others like Huntley, for whom it should be a place where they live out the rest of their miserable lives without ever smelling fresh air or feeling happy.

Oh they absolutely were, I'm not downplaying them.
It's utterly bizarre how many women have written to him professing love when you consider that he probably wouldn't have hesitated to kill them in cold blood had they been unlucky enough to innocently cross his path.

I just meant that generally society views child murderers as being at the bottom on the criminal hierarchy.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 07/03/2026 16:23

My heart aches for Holly and Jessica's families today. Having his name all over the media again must be devastating, and his death no release from their prison for them.

Sailawayx · 07/03/2026 16:23

@Butchyrestingface seems how they are both in prison for heinous crimes, I would have fully agreed with Huntley committing the same crime against him. I don't think the world would be worse off with either of these criminals being dead, and I'm glad my taxes no longer go towards feeding and homing them. The least these hideous people can do is destroy each other, instead of innocent people.

I didn't know that. Is that because they are worried about tribalism?

So you condone murder then?

Presumably you also condone the murder of the two women and the child he murdered?

Because here’s the thing. Either you believe murder is wrong, or you don’t. There are no shades of grey. None.

I wonder how violent the people who are condoning this murderer’s actions are in their personal lives.

Because it’s one thing to not be upset that a hideous criminal is dead, it’s quite another thing to praise someone for murdering him, especially when that murderer was a worse criminal than the one he murdered.

Anyone who condones murder of any kind says a lot about the kind of person they are, and none of it is positive.

Allisnotlost1 · 07/03/2026 16:25

Charlize43 · 07/03/2026 13:44

Not if they are executing them. How does that work then, are they reoffending in the afterlife?

You want to execute everyone who goes to prison?

Sailawayx · 07/03/2026 16:29

@Never2many I do not believe the murder of Ian was wrong. I hope he suffered. And I'm glad he suffered before hand. I have no sorrow for Ian and I have no sympathy whatsoever. The people I have sympathy for are the parents of those little girls he made suffer, as well as his own daughter who has to live with all of this for the rest of her life too. That's who my sympathies are with. Not a child murderer.

Bellfield has received proposals of marriage, though, despite being a child murderer after killing Millie Dowler. So that doesn’t stop some women from proposing marriage.

Where did you read that? I think it’s highly unlikely. Football/sports clothing isn’t allowed and he would only be able to get clothing either sent in or bought himself from limited catalogues. There’s no way that could be smuggled in and not immediately taken off him.
