What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

An old Landrover Defender. Bleedin’ expensive to run but it’s ours for life and we love it.

LoopyLoo1991 · 09/03/2026 01:41

My small collection of tiny crystal and ceramic figures. Mainly pigs and horses.

The mad thing is, I also got some fabulous expensive bright orange underwear, and a Vivienne Westwood orb handbag, and some saucy little boots (Hush Puppies!!!!!!!! - who knewwwww...), so I've got the full kit. Maybe there will be an opportunity to flaunt it all one day. A good Girl Guide is always prepared!

I have never, ever, in my whole life spent this much money on an outfit. I'm sitting here in ancient Primark track pants and a cheap T-shirt from Amazon Basics 🤡

Beautiful 😍

A few PPs have urged me to wear the dress!

The thing is, we don't go out: we have no social life (happier in each other's company) and prefer to eat in (DH is a great cook). All our interests are home-based. And I don't particularly want to wear such a masterpiece of design engineering to clean the bathroom.

This is why it was such an extravagance, really (quite apart from the unusual expense), but still I don't regret it. Taking just a few minutes now and then - perhaps every couple of weeks or so - to be utterly resplendent in front of the wardrobe mirror is rather exciting. Then I go back to leggings and T-shirts. It's like a little secret side of me. Or a bit like PP quietly rejoicing over her stash of jewels!

Tell your husband you are having a dinner party just for you two - both dress up in your finest!!! Enjoy wearing your purchase ❤️

Dental implants and cosmetic surgery

Olive42 · 09/03/2026 03:46

Buying new underwear every six months.
Massages to iron out knots once a month and I upgrade to essential oils Tec during it although as I have a medical condition that affects muscular tension. It feels like a necessity.
Philip Kingsley hair elasticiser.
Feather pillows.
Dark Belgian chocolate.
Cashmere jumper.
Benetint make up
And at the moment, my expensive dentist though a necessity feels like a !luxury as it is so eye wateringly expensive for me.I
Monthly ge! Nails.
Typing this makes me realise how fortunate I am but it is all paid by me out of the metaphorical sweat of my labours.
No cleaner, do my own facials, batch cooking etc....

I like how your username is @alcoholfreelife and your greatest extravagance is wine 😆

But she only said that she eats out !!! Lol

Fupoffyagrasshole · 09/03/2026 09:19

we go to the pub every friday with the kids for tea - saves on cooking at home / no washing up ! kids straight to bed when we get back.

I've got memebership to like 3 cinemas haha - i go pretty much once a week to get an evening to myself

I pay a lot per month to my fittness / wellness coach - worth it to me as i've never been more fit./ strong / healthy in my life

Haha, if DH dresses up in his finest it will look a bit like this (with a bit of poetic licence used on my own appearance, obvs 😜). He is the scruffiest man I've ever met, luckily also the most wonderful 💗

He urged me to buy the dress because he knew how happy it would make me, but it's utterly incongruous with our lifestyle. That's what makes it such an extravagance! Thank you to PPs for the kind comments about it. Spending on posh clothes is so alien to me that I have no idea if I can trust my taste in such delicate matters!

I still think you should do it @Beachtastic that dress is too gorgeous not to get a proper outing!
Fabulous thread, thank you OP. I’ve copied and pasted so many ‘extravagances’ for my Wish List’.
My own to add to the thread would be cat food (again some flown in 🙈) for my old boy to keep him fit and well, a beautiful sea view rental apartment, where we currently live, which just makes me smile and be thankful every day. Paying DS’s Uni costs and a decent allowance so he can be debt free and spending a lot of money on M&S imported food.

Haha someone else mentioned it after I posted it, I did try my best to give up the booze and was feeling positive when I named changed and even joined the alcohol free thread on here but after about a week or two I figured life was too short to quit something I loved so thought fuck it 🤣 but haven’t changed my user name back

You're so welcome.

I love hearing about women spoiling themselves without guilt. I also really enjoy threads that remind me life's too short not to be extravagant.

Chanel lipsticks, like to buy 1 at Christmas.

FrancesFlute · 10/03/2026 16:32

National Trust annual membership. Kids are 8 and 4 so tend to use on UK holidays as days out and there are a couple of places near home that are good for a few hours out - even if it's just a walk and cafe!

I also send some of my ironing out. A lovely man comes to collect and then drops it off a few days later. I just have to send an email and do it as and when. Such a nice way to get rid of that job (which never got done!)

I have loved reading this thread and have made notes of several things I aspire to add in perhaps when I'm in a less busy season (SEN child trenches) or get richer! In my notes are: regular massages, getting a butter dish and getting my car cleaned inside and out regularly. Even if it was just quarterly!

WhatsConfusingYouIsTheNatureOfMyGame · 10/03/2026 16:48

NT membership seems such good value that I never consider it an extravagance, more of a steal! I assume there must be people who get it but only go twice a year, because I can't believe we get to rinse it as much as we do for fifteen quid a month.

ThatQuickMentor · 10/03/2026 19:04

I live on my own and have just bought a king size duvet for £110 and a tabletop dishwasher because I hate washing cutlery!

"rinse it" ? what does that mean?

bibliomania · 11/03/2026 06:22

Rinse = exploit to its fullest

I agree, we use ours so often that it’s an absolute bargain! It’s £16 just to park at our local NT place but free with membership.

Monthly massage £50, it keeps me well.
I also like to buy flowers.

Changednameagain999 · 11/03/2026 19:52

Agree with this style butter dish, I have similar, but boring white. What I like about this “upside down” design is that the occupiers of my house (my family!), now can’t put the lid in the damn butter ,then all over the work surface and make a right mess. The only problem they suffer with now is putting it back next to the toaster or in the fridge(in summer)!

Beachtastic · 12/03/2026 12:57

Re European butter dishes, I seem to have an accidentally very extravagant one - Polish pottery, Boleslawiec style. I didn't pay much for it a few years ago, but they now seem harder to find and rather expensive!

It's very pretty, and now I know how pricey they are I'll probably drop it on the floor soon 🤡
