What are your extravagant spends that you have zero guilt about

My mum lives about 130 miles away from me. I visit her three times a year. I always get an Uber there and a first-class train back.

My friend nearly fell off her seat laughing at my extravagance when I told her about this earlier today😅😅😅

My DH has a bit of a tinned fish habit and can easily spend £70 a month on it.

What ridiculous, extravagant things do you spend money on with zero guilt?

I don't regard anything as a luxury spend. Having worked for almost 50 years full-time, it's my choice to do whatever I want with my money. I have one proviso with myself - every 3 months or so I make donations to a charities.

Only buy cashmere cardigans and jumpers for myself these days. They last for years and never get sweaty. I only buy 1 or 2 a year at most but I have a very nice collection now. My husband and I are "comfortably off" and our children are all grown up. No guilt whatsoever.

@Beachtastic I think your dress and whole outfit is fabulous! I thought that when I first saw it, and I think maybe I didn't post to say that because I was also feeling quite jealous of how slim you must be. Anyway thank you for sharing it with us, it's lovely and I'm glad you now have a do to wear it to.

Thank you 😍 Re being slim, I've just realised that I think the dress was a subconscious reward to myself for getting fit again! I wouldn't have fitted into it a year ago... whereas now I can dazzle all those 90-year-olds at the party 🌞

Our second home - we wanted it, then we really needed it (it’s close to family who desperately needed support) and now we just love it. We spend half our week there. It’s in dh’s home town, not in a tourist location but it’s our happy place.

I bought expensive knitting machine and make bespoke cashmere, mohair and everything else yarn wise myself. Very enjoyable. Best thing i ever bought!

For my own part. I saved up for years to buy a second home in Spain when i retired. Now i realise i don’t want one. So i use those savings to go away for a month at a time whenever i feel i need sunshine. I can go whenever i want to wherever i want now that i am partially retired. A month usually at a time. I’m on my own so wouldn’t be for everyone. Suits me though.

DH has always been tinned fish obsessed. It used to just be mackerel in tomato sauce.
A couple of Christmasses ago I noticed you could get some really nice imported ones so I bought him a hamper of them. Apparently tinned fish was the present of that year. I had no idea.
Anyway, he bloody loved the hamper. And now he has an expensive tinned fish habit.

Can you share where you got this? I'd love to get it for my DH for his birthday. @LittlePrecious

Blanketsarethebest · 08/03/2026 21:50

@iloveeverykindofcat thanks! I'll take a look. He's been on feringa for years and wet food is still good (lamb, turkey, rabbit) but dry food now has chicken. Animonda carny turkey wet also works for us!

People are losing the plot here and obviously don't know what the word "extravagance" means. It's not:

Lurpak butter
paying off your mortgage

It does not mean "hold luggage" when you are flying business class

It means whatever it means to you. And to them.

Beachtastic · 08/03/2026 22:14

@Happyinmyownspace and @DeedsNotDiddums I'm not sure how to link a post! It was on this thread at 06/03/2026 09:59... 🌞

The mad thing is, I also got some fabulous expensive bright orange underwear, and a Vivienne Westwood orb handbag, and some saucy little boots (Hush Puppies!!!!!!!! - who knewwwww...), so I've got the full kit. Maybe there will be an opportunity to flaunt it all one day. A good Girl Guide is always prepared!

I have never, ever, in my whole life spent this much money on an outfit. I'm sitting here in ancient Primark track pants and a cheap T-shirt from Amazon Basics 🤡

It's lovely! Very Helena Bonham-Carter.

I bought myself a long tail cargo e-bike last year. They are pricey and it was definitely the most indulgent thing I’ve bought in years - and not essential as we have a car and good public transport (in London).

BUT it has totally transformed my life - I cycle everywhere, take the kids everywhere on it, do the shopping etc. have barely driven the car all year, and have cycled over 2000 miles. Bloody love it, worth every penny.

That looks amazing!
