Out of curiosity, I looked up how many seats in England each party is defending in May.

Labour 2,196
Tory 1,134
Lib Dems 663
Greens 170
Reform 78

Latest Senedd polling is looking encouraging. Reform has no chance of running Wales. Same for Holyrood.

Rather underscores that Reform are very very much an English nationalist party.

I wonder how Aspire will do in Tower Hamlets.

@cardibach We went to Carcassonne a few years ago
( after reading Kate Mosse's book)
and thoroughly enjoyed it, we walked a lot, no car needed for us.
I am not mad about History despite doing it at A level (just why, we never learn ?)
but we really did have such a sense of the past there, especially walking along the river as well as in the old town itself where we stayed.
Enjoy!

British opposition to the war in Iran has risen by 10pts according to YouGov.

I was just about to say that the direction of travel is the key takeaway.

It means there is no real support to be had from pushing the pro-US angle.

In other news, Nigel Farage was not photographed with Donald Trump this weekend.

Hear hear 🎉

it’s interesting how many people I hear day to day are concerned about the war because Trump is taking the lead and his lack of remembering what he says one day to the next.

My exam anxiety nightmare is always A level history which I sat and passed. I either arrive in PJ's or I'm totally unprepared and haven't a clue what I'm going to write.

Yes indeed. I really hope the government is taking notice.

Was he ever photographed with Trump?

@placemats I feel for you!
I seem to have been having much more vivid dreams recently and in them I am often getting lost.
Not hard to analyse those dreams I guess.

I've learnt to tell myself it's just a dream and you can wake up. And I do.

Charles Stuart Parnell can get in the toilet - Irish History A Level (I didn't write that in my exam but I did think it).

DuncinToffee · 09/03/2026 20:58

DD did history A-level, she loved history at secondary school but she went right off it at college. She did quite well.

Her secondary school has a very strong history department, often beating high ranking private school in competitions. Not bad for a comp that got MN advice to avoid.

Not sure how they would police it without getting quite draconian, anyhow.

MPs reject call for under-16s social media ban, backing more flexible powers - BBC News https://share.google/jIOHUQbvSOsDMLboo

I other news, DH is on his way to Amsterdam for a work thing and has been stopped at security and swabbed, for the 3rd time in a row.

I think Reform have now changed their mind on Trump's war and the UK should not join it.

Farage has seen the polls, perhaps?

What about Badenoch? Is she still posing with tanks?

Kemi may be all in favour, but at least economic realpolitik is forcing her to take a slightly different tack
