I’ve never been to Carcassonne, it’s never really been on my radar.

placemats · 09/03/2026 12:46

We also went to Narbonne for the day. The water was freezing.

It's very pretty, but there's not a huge amount to do there, so don't plan for a month...

It’ll be a few days! It’s book related really, having read books set there.

PandoraSocks · 09/03/2026 12:52

I love the South of France generally. We had some wonderful holidays there when my DH was still relatively mobile. I am not sure we will go back again now, though. It makes me rather sad.

Love Carcassonne. We stayed in a cottage, brother and friend, about 15 miles away. Imagine my surprise when it was on a channel 4 place to buy abroad programme - can't remember the name.

We also took a trip to Andorra and then to a gorge where you have to wait to drive down, single lane only. You'll need a car.

Edited

We’re on,y going for a few days and will be staying close enough to walk -one option is just outside the walls. We definitely won’t need a car for what we want to do!

Kate Mosse?

Kate Mosse?

Yes! I think possibly something else too, but definitely hers. We were considering the Books In Places trip but it’s very pricey so we thought we’d just go ourselves. I saw Kate Mosse speak at a launch of her non fiction book Warrior Queens and Quiet Revolutionaries and she’s really interesting and knowledgable.

Enjoy your stay. It's so worth going.

FT reporting that Farage failed to meet with Trump

This has so made my day 😂

Been on a nice slow bus ride with DS2. Caught a fair few pokemon. Lots of these spawning.

Weirdly I only discovered yesterday, that there is money in them thar pokemon cards. I wondered what Guz Khan was on about in Off Menu.

Aye. Some are very rare. We don't buy them because they'd be lined up all over the floor!

We got a Reform leaflet through the door. Ewww.

Interesting thoughts on the Tories and where the party is heading - outlook is oblivion.

Again, all predicted way back when. Plenty of commentary that if the Tories caved into the "bastards" (© John Major) they would be writing themselves into oblivion.

After they caved in, the only way they could have survived was to have avoided having anything to do with Brexit. But no, they saw the £££ and threw caution to the wind.

They robbed those who voted for Brexit of the ££££s promised. The voters didn't listen to Cameron, WHO STARTED IT, but instead went Farage and Johnson.

And now the cognitive dissonance is FINALLY, starting to kick in.

Thank you for your attention in this matter 😂

What is it with MN and those words?

SerendipityJane · 09/03/2026 15:11

Returning to world events, pushing the world to ditch oil/gas as quickly as possible seems a rather shortsighted tactic on behalf of the fossil fuel lobby.

With a bit of luck we may be able to power the UK entirely by the smug glow of satisfaction from EV owners.

Meanwhile the whole net-zero/renewables thing starts to look quite prescient. Even if this isn't their time yet, the possibility of another cunt in the Whitehouse is now accepted and can't be dismissed.

Lazy content filtering.

Speaking of which, who else is prepared to have to trick voice callers in future, for when they sound like a relative or close friend, but are really an "AI" bot that has been fed with enough to be convincing ?

That's how far ahead I usually work.

PickAChew · 09/03/2026 15:53

This could be DS2's vocation in life, @SerendipityJane - totally fucking up the algorithm. He is the vocal equivalent of using nonsense search terms.

Of course fans of "The Prisoner" will recall an episode where No.6 almost gets away with it until a crafty "Only the real person would know" question that results in him being returned to The Village

("Sarah died last year", if my apparently abnormal memory is still abnormal).

Really it's just bring watchwords into the 21st century.

PandoraSocks · 09/03/2026 16:04

Out of curiosity, I looked up how many seats in England each party is defending in May.

Labour 2,196
Tory 1,134
Lib Dems 663
Greens 170
Reform 78

Latest Senedd polling is looking encouraging. Reform has no chance of running Wales. Same for Holyrood.
