Surely this can only be a good thing if that tyrant is no more. However hopefully it won't lead to months/years of fighting and bloodshed

Her name was Atefeh Sahaaleh. Maybe do the bare minimum and Google it same goes for anyone else who seems to doubt innocent lives lost.

Iranian Women have been imprisoned, beaten, and killed under this regime for things as simple as showing their hair or refusing to comply.

The audacity to come here and doubt the lives lost is beyond disrespectful

the case matching the description of a 16-year-old girl executed after reporting she was raped is that of Atefeh Sahaaleh (also known as Ateqeh Rajabi), which occurred in Iran in 2004.

Wow. I asked a straightforward question because I had not heard of this case. It seems that this happened over twenty years ago. How dare you attack me in this manner because I didn’t remember!

Netanyahu and/or Trump next please

Are you advocating for the assassination of Trump or Netanyahu on a public forum?

Eviebeans · 01/03/2026 03:33

What do people think will happen next?
It is incredible to hear that the leader is dead but this doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the regime
I see that Iran are promising a “crushing response”
What does this mean for the people of Iran
and for the rest of the world

Getting rid of a tyrant is only half the deed and what happens next matters. Trump is not a friend of the Iranian people, he is Israel's. Expect a gold plated Trump Towers soon tho.

The Iranian people support Israel, they are fighting against the same ideology. Some of the most vocal anti-Hamas voices in the UK are Iranian.

I for one am celebrating his death!

This all my people have wanted for nearly 50 years.

We Iranians aren’t naive. We fully understand geopolitics perfectly well. We know foreign governments arent saviours, and we don’t need to be schooled on who the so-called “good” or “bad” actors are as so many have tried to do especially over the last couple of months. After 50 nearly years of surveillance, repression, and state violence, we know exactly how power operates.

and for anyone who judges how iranians are feeling right now need to understand that People living under pressure for years don’t respond in neat, morally polished ways. Their emotions are layered, complicated, and earned. Instead of policing how they should feel, recognise that those reactions come from lived experience most outsiders will never truly understand

The scene is wild here in Vancouver this evening. So much horn honking and celebrating!

The Iranian people I know - not dissidents or activists - are mostly just normal when it comes to Israel. They dont have the insane blind israel hatred but no full throated support for Bibi or going out waving Israeli flags that I've seen in other places.
They understand nuance and complexity although they all hate the regime with a passion. They are all now behind Pahlavi as the only alternative for now.

i have been working so just catching up on the news this morning. What I don’t understand is why Dubai has been bombed. Can anyone explain?

I am not Iranian and believe that Israeli ideology is more than just being anti-Hamas. My point is more about what comes next. What sort of leadership will Pahlavi bring? He might be the 'right for now' answer, but his leadership is untried. How will he deal with those who want a religious option? Will he bring democracy? What political system do Iranians want?

Iran is striking back at places in the ME where westerners are.

TheFilliesWillRiseAgain · 01/03/2026 07:15

Israel has been intercepting missiles and drones sent by Iran to attack Muslim countries like the UAE.

Incredible - the UAE and several other Islamic counties are now seriously considering joining Israel in attacking Iran!

Soft target. Uae has been fighting proxy war against Iran in Sudan for a long time

Iranians celebrating while dumb white liberals are protesting in support of the Iranian regime in Chicago 😂 😆 😂

What a bunch of dumb idiots. They are all paid protestors anyway so they just show up for whatever new protests is organized.

We had some protests here.

Whilst the Iranian people are celebrating. Thankfully their voices are more important and relevant.

Hopefully it will be like Russia and Germany where taking out a leader will be the start of restoring more power back to the people and much less oppression. It isn’t just the Ayatollah who’s been killed but I guess he’s the biggest name

it the concept that this is just one man is absured. Case in point: Hitler

Very serious situation unfolding in Pakistan as -frankly deranged- Muslim men attacking the US Embassy. Shots have been fired by the Embassy.
They will turn on us next.
Thanks God the illegal migrant boats were full of women, engineers and doctors not fighting age men who hate our culture.
I expect the terror threat to be ramped up here .
What is left of the power base in Iran has said that consider Iran to be at war with ‘the Whole of Europe’.

@Addybee i could not be happier for you and your people.
I hope that in the future I will get the chance to see the beauty of Iran and its people when the shackles of the oppressive Islamic regime has been thrown off and Iran gets back on its feet and welcomes people to share its culture nd history.
I like to think that today Mohammed Reza Pahlavi will be resting in peace for the first time since his death.
Sendimg you love, 💐🤗

I seem to recall similar celebrations in Syria, “regime change” was was what they wanted in Iraq. Look how well that’s all turned out.

Celebrating this death at this point is just symbolic.

You’re not going to change a regime like that overnight. Especially not when it’s been brought about by another country and not internally.

“be careful what you wish for.”

Don’t worry @Enrichetta theyve done loads of shitty things since 2004 as well. Have a Google of Nika Shakarami now you’ve discovered the internet. That was 2022 which you might find a more acceptable timeline.

Then try Robina Animiam.
Neda Agra-Soltan.
Leila Alirmaei
The countless mothers forced to rifle through body bags in makeshift morgues searching for their children a few short weeks ago. To the sound of crickets from the Western media.

My SIL was arrested last year for wearing jeans, for Christs sake. She was picked up by a mobile IRGC unit because the app that Tehran women use to warn them of the IRGC’s approach (yay them) was not working. Her headscarf was wonky and apparently her jeans were too snug - the fact that they were under a chador is neither here nor there. She was on her way to work, as a doctor.

It is morally fucking bankrupt to defend these murdering arseholes. Let’s not forget that the Islamists were able to turn Iran into a living hell for women partly because of an uneasy collaboration with the left against the Shah in 1979. Sound familiar? The debt of gratitude the world owes Israel after yesterday is incalculable.

This.. please stay safe everyone. I think it’s fair to say that nutcase jihad mode will be activated in the west: Globalise the fucking intifada indeed. Lunatic death cult that it is.

I absolutely hope this brings about change.

But the sad reality is that when western countries take it upon themselves to decide that things will change things so rarely end up working out how they planned, because even with the death of a leader, the power, the support is still there.

A dictator does not dictate in isolation.

Change isn’t going to happen overnight. But Trump will claim he brought about regime change regardless of what happens next.

It's absolutely reasonable to expect attacks across Europe and further. We have invited lots of dangerous people in and refusedd to listen to warnings even from their own people.

But the fact that military bases focussing on nuclear weapons in Iran have been disabled and will take years to build back up again has possibly saved us all from future attacks. The UK are within range of Iran’s capabilities with ballistic missiles, so it’s a win for us. If the actions of yesterday have to be repeated every decade, then so be it.
