Just in a bit of a panic as DH has just called me to say that he has accidentally eaten and given our toddler out of date sushie ( tesco meal deal pack). Use by was the 17/2 !
He said there was no obvious mold or bad taste.
I'm not normally a panicky person but this is so high risk with rice! It's been in his car for the weekend so not like its been in the fridge.
He bought some fresh today but didn't realise there was an old packet from last week!
Is there any I can do. Should I call nhs 111?

Science and bacteria dont care about cultures being wrong.

Food poisoning traced to improperly stored and cooked rice is a massive issue, even in reported numbers, in countries that eat rice that view western safety standards sceptically. With numbers known to be massively under reported on top.

We will stick with and teach basic science based food safety that objectively makes the country safer, not anti science attitudes that aren't really intellectually any better than being anti vax.

Lol, I did my degree in medical microbiology. Telling people not to be over the top about rice generally is hardly equivalent to anti-vax. I currently work in medical research including vaccines research so you couldn't be more wrong😂.
Food poisoning (usually very mild in the case of bacillus cereus) caused by IMPROPERLY stored cooked rice might well be a problem. However, thinking all rice if reheated causes food poisoning (the general hysterical trend on Mumsnet) is just ridiculous. Then again you do seem prone to hyperbole....🤔

I did my diploma in human biology (left after two years so diploma), because I got bored and went to do my Biomedical science degree. From at the time the number 3 rated department in Europe. Also did computer science, I never knew what I wanted for decades properly, just kept learning.

I can tell everyone that is meaningless and I am not an authority, and that is true of the person here trying to convince you food safety isn't important based on scaring you with qualifications. I also did medical research for a while. Also meaningless.

OK....you clearly have a chip on your shoulder, no idea why. You seem determined to misrepresent me, I never said food safety wasnt important. I said the general trend of hysteria around rice specifically, was baffling.
However you crack on with worrying about rice, you clearly are genius on another level (cant even finish your degrees because they are so boring). Anyway ignoring you now as this was not the point of the thread. You will need to find a towering intellect more suited to challenging your abilities for an argument 🙄

Pleased everything is ok with your toddler (and DH) - what a relief!

I wasn't going to update as the thread got slightly detailed. But amazingly everyone is fine! Toddler continues to enjoy kefir and sauerkraut ( obviously not mixed together)

Great news. So pleased both were ok!
