Husband and toddler have eaten out of date sushi

Just in a bit of a panic as DH has just called me to say that he has accidentally eaten and given our toddler out of date sushie ( tesco meal deal pack). Use by was the 17/2 !
He said there was no obvious mold or bad taste.
I'm not normally a panicky person but this is so high risk with rice! It's been in his car for the weekend so not like its been in the fridge.
He bought some fresh today but didn't realise there was an old packet from last week!
Is there any I can do. Should I call nhs 111?

I never said you were a pharmacist.
You have the wrong poster.

You did ask which treatment.....

No. You said to call 111. I asked what you thought they would recommend.
Not you. Not a pharmacist.

This thread just keeps going in circles. Concerns about old rice, old fish, whether it's actually that old, whether it's been cold or warm, whether the dh is a knob or not, whether it was deliberate and whether calling for advice is identical to to turning up at A&E.

Its the dullest thread I’ve read in a long time. I;m only still here to see if its real and if anything happened in the end. I don’t think OP will come back now though.

flosspot4 · 25/02/2026 18:28

And fwiw op doesn’t owe anyone an update. We are just random internet strangers. She might be busy looking after a sick toddler or she might think feck you all which would be reasonable given how rude some people have been about her dh.

Honestly, supermarket sushi (and food court sushi) are not posh. It is such a common food - and a common take away. You might not eat it, but that doesn't change that.
To roll your eyes on that and poo- poo a mum's concern for her young child is pretty low. I'm willing to bet you're much nicer and supportive in real life, though. 😊

Where have I poo-pooed OP's concerns? I haven't commented on that at all. I'm also not saying that sushi is posh. Nor have I rolled my eyes at anything here! If you care to look at my comments, you will see that somebody said this was the most middle class thread they'd seen on MN. Someone else asked why and I said it was probably because of the mention of sushi (because what else about the initial post could suggest that?) Yes - I've already said sushi isn't posh, but it might be perceived as a bit more middle class than stuff like fish and chips or chicken nuggets. I wonder why that idea might bother anybody?

Well... read further up the quotes.
They are likely to say not to feed dairy to the toddler (and adult) straight after eating potentially contaminated food! This sounds crazy to me!
Once your vomiting and diarrhoea are over, if you get food poisoning, then you need the probiotics. But straight after the harmful bacteria, you are only providing more nicer nutrients for it to spread around.
They may add getting worm treatment for the fish parasites.
Now, go on and add what you think they may say?

Honestly the hysteria around rice and food poisoning is crackers. You do realise that cultures all over the world regularly eat reheated rice and still manage to survive?
While in this case, I dont think anyone would suggest eating anything that had been stored in a car for a week instead of a fridge is a good idea, it certainly does not need the level of panic displayed by some posters. Not sure what some people expect the NHS to do? Pre-emptively pump the stomach of a toddler - just to avoid the possibility of a short bout of D&V caused by some rice! FFS🙄

Honestly the hysteria around rice and food poisoning is crackers

I read that at first as if it is rice crackers that are the problem for poisoning!

@Sailawaygirl posted on a different and unrelated thread a few hours after last post on this one - so fairly safe to assume, her thick husband and toddler haven’t conked it

Isadora2007 · 25/02/2026 20:24

@Sailawaygirl we need an update!!!

Interesting. What thread was that? Do you have a link?

CaffeineAndChords · 25/02/2026 20:35

Eeek. As a person with emetophobia I read this and my stomach dropped. Really hope they’re both ok OP

We have been away on holiday so he hasn't been in his car for a week.
He bought fresh in date sushi today to eat however he had left a packet of old sushi in his car accidentally. And found and opened this one before he Then saw the new packet and thought oh no. He didn't look at the date and say oh the 17th will be ok!
The sushi was bought as his lunch for today as he prefers it to sandwiches and so does toddler.

Edited

Your husband sounds like an idiot, sorry!!!!

I'm interested! As you say, if it was after this, then all was obviously well, which is a relief!

MagdaLenor · 25/02/2026 22:07

Anyway, the OP isn't coming back, we can probably deduce all is well, fingers 🤞 crossed

Hibbutyhop · 25/02/2026 22:09

I hope all is well with DD and DH!

I think she means it's unlikely to be administered by A&E. "Just in case".

@MagdaLenor yes your right thank you,
A&E are NOT under any circumstances going to put a toddler through the trauma of having invasive treatment and cause god knows how much upset and distress for a poor child just on the off chance said child may or may not become unwell, 🙄
I most certainly would not want to witness my child suffer like that unless it was absolutely necessary,

Indeed, good points.

The strangest post of this entire thread was @placemats post that @Sailawaygirl should leave her husband to it as it happened under his care so it’s his problem!

It definitely was. It was on the Elderly parents boards and more than 2 hours after @Sailawaygirl started this thread - so I think safe to say that all was fine but just didn’t wish to return to thread.
