Something woo happened tonight.

As the title suggests, and I'm not sure what to think of it, so opinions welcome.
Tonight whilst my daughter (3) was in the living room, she came running up to me in the kitchen and asked me what that noise was in her ear as it wasn't daddy. I asked her what she meant, and she said something said (made said sound) in her ear, and what was it as it wasn't daddy. I thought it was a toy on the sofa so I turned it off. A few minutes later she came running back up to me in the kitchen again and said it happened again, who was it because it isn't daddy (he was upstairs asleep). So, I just turned the tv off and we went to bed.

Now, when I have been in the house alone sometimes I hear sounds or spoken words, but mistook this for being tired, as I'm often up late doing my uni work. I also sometimes feel cold brushes of air, or really loud bangs upstairs, like something has fallen off a wall or something, each time I've gone upstairs to check and nothing is out of place or has fallen. I'm only questioning all of this now because of what my 3 year old told me tonight. I do believe she wouldn't make this up, she was genuinely frightened as to who made the spoken sound in her ear. She was adamant something said something in her ear.

We live in a new build, first occupants, so not haunted. Also no one has died recently.
What do you think?

Do you have an underfloor space or loft? Could be a squatter.
electrics could be picking up other people’s sounds.

rainbowboymama · 21/02/2026 21:27

MissyPants · 21/02/2026 01:43

Yes, I can't explain the bangs, like it really sounds like a huge picture or mirror has fallen off a wall and landed on the floor, it's that loud, but each time I've come upstairs thinking "what was that" I've found nothing.
Also me passing off supposed whispers or loud spoken sounds as "being tired' makes me wonder if I am actually hearing it.
And the cold brushes of air, always just passed it off.

You could always search your local FB groups to try and source a recommended medium. I had to do this a couple of years ago because of things happening, my children reporting things happening, and then actually seeing something on the baby monitor. Our development is built on the grounds of an old mental asylum, lots of reported goings on and horrible stories from the asylum days. Two mediums found spirit activity in our house; since they did whatever they do, things have settled down and my son no longer complains of something touching his head every night! Good luck xx

Hear me out because I'm definitely not a religious whacko, however I have had experiences with disturbing dark spirit things in the house years ago (although yours are worse than mine were yikes!) .. You need holy objects in the house to counteract the darkness. Get a crucifix. Bring in Mother Mary ( a picture or little statue). Holy water. Minimal cost outlay for max effectiveness. And prayers. Psalm 91 is extremely powerful. Print out a copy, or buy a cheap one online. If you feel comfortable recite it out loud. Pray over your child, whether you believe it or not. Do not under any circumstances bring in New Age "solutions" such a sage, crystals, or smudging. Now is not the time for playing with energy and spirit and allowing space - dark entities and demons get in through cracks. There are a loads of millennial women who are ex New Agers who can verify what I'm saying - although they're over on instagram! You need the big guns and that is the Holy Spirit. I've been there, done that, and ya need Jesus for this job. And you don't need to be a practising Christian to call on him. Psalm 91 is on Spotify. Play it out loud. Minimum effort. Max results.

What did you see in your house, and why did you turn to Mother Mary?

I do believe in spiritual warfare.

You might as well recite the lyrics to ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.

Lifelover16 · 21/02/2026 21:38

Is it a really new house? Could it be plasterboard or roof joints shrinking as they dry out?

EvolvedAlready · 21/02/2026 21:51

Defo woo! Don’t dismiss it.

Get yourself some holy water, it’s not weird, it’s a tool for protection. spray it and ask for protection for you your daughter and your house.

When it happens again, say “I command that you leave me and my family alone, please leave this house”.

you’re more powerful than any spirits. So command protection and ask them to leave.

This sounds exciting but also a bit scary @MissyPants and I 100% believe you. And I wonder what it is! The small children in my family, like my little brother when he was a baby (and I was 10,) and my niece and nephew, used to point at things in the room that weren't there. (Well, we grown ups/bigger kids and teens couldn't see them!)

My niece (when she was 3.5) said she saw 'nana' who died a week earlier and was pointing at the corner and smiling, even though we (adults) couldn't see anything! I have also seen cats staring at something we can't see, and hissing and running away.

I can recall (vividly) when I was about 4, seeing something/someone floating over my bed and moving around the room, and I hid my face under the bed covers. I was frozen with fear. My mum told me it was a dream. I know it wasn't.

I also have memories of floating down the stairs myself, (when I was 3-4,) but am not sure if this was a dream.

I have also experienced paranormal activity in a workplace I used to work at. It was a small office block (3 storeys high) that belonged to our employerr.. It was built on a site that used to be a place where they burned women at the stake who they accused of being witches.

I was alone in the building with one other woman, just me and her at 6pm one night. We were shutting down the computers and getting our coats and bags, and the light started flickering and going on and off, and a few pictures on the walls started shaking. We were like Confused

Then we heard a loud knocking on the wall on the other side of the office we were in. We knew there was no-one else in the building, and when I shot into the room where the knocking had come from, there was no-one there, nothing there. This other woman and I were actually terrified, and we grabbed our stuff, locked up the front door, and ran to our car(s!)

Also, the general area where these small office blocks were built had a faint smell of burning hair, and burning flesh, for some years after they were built. The longer time went on, the less you could smell it. The buildings were put there in the early 1980s, and you could smell the burning then, but you cannot smell anything now. I don't know if there was a burning smell pre 1980s, because it was waste land before then that no-one went to really.

I have had quite a few other (similar) experiences over the years too. But these are just a few.

illbetheresunorrain · 21/02/2026 22:00

I won't dismiss you. We were in a reverse cottage in Devon and the lady owner came to say Hi and suddenly said: Good night, sleep well, sometimes when you are not where home is you may hear strange sounds ...

I reassured her I know houses make noises, birds on roofs bla bla bla because I know that houses make noises but Lord....

Just reading in bed a very loud noise of something that I would describe would be is of someone trashed a chair upstairs in the kitchen....I did not dare go. My family was asleep.....I asked them in the morning and they did not hear anything.

Thankfully where I live, there is nothing like that but I had dreams into which St George saved me from something evil wanting to gain access but did not gain it.

MySparklyChicken · 21/02/2026 22:07

Me and my sisters have experienced several things throughout our lives that we can't explain. It started when my younger sister (A) was about 5/6, the three of us started seeing and hearing a little girl in the house. Weirdly, my mum didn't want us freaking each other out so none of us knew at the time that the others had seen or heard her. It started after A had a dream about this random Victorian girl and things just started happening after that. I often think about it and it was honestly terrifying. I totally believe the both of you, sometimes these things seems to come out of nowhere. I'm 42 now and still get the odd 'thing' and I hate it. A is 38 and gets things all the time and is pretty unbothered

Do you want a prayer partner?

Glitterballofdreams · 21/02/2026 22:12

I definitely believe something exists, and that you’re not imagining all of this.
but don’t let it make you feel awkward or afraid.
I worked in a very old house, and in certain areas I would feel an immense presence. I also felt a cold touch to my face between 2-3am (I worked nights there) my way of coping was to ignore it, and not let whatever it was know that I was afraid. It might be worth looking into the land where your house was built.

‘Holy’ water is just H2O, you know, not some kind of anti-bacterial spray for ghosts.

TeenyWeenyPolkaDotPeeny · 21/02/2026 22:27

My little girl used to tell me a pretty consistent story about missing her ‘other mummy and daddy from before’ - I’d ask what she meant by that and she would tell me how she had a mummy and daddy before she got run over by a car and got really hurt, and then me and daddy are now her mummy and daddy.
this went on for years. She used to give me details about the house she lived in ect.

It's really NOT 'just H2O.'

FettleOfKish · 21/02/2026 22:29

I think I’d have the house on the market OP so well done for being calm. I lived in a house from 3 years old to 17 and for a period of about 2 years when I was a pre-teen all kinds of unexplained shit went on there. I’m 42 now and still regularly dream about one room in that house, always the same dream that I’m trying to get in or out of the room and there’s something pushing the door from the other side. During the time the odd shenanigans were happening both our cat and dog refused to go upstairs, although they always happily had before and did again after.

You're right.
There will be H2O along with some minerals, like calcium; possibly some disinfection agents like chlorine. Maybe some fluoride.
Same as any other tap water, in other words.

It really is. It has no occult powers.

Caniweartheseones · 21/02/2026 22:43

I have a light ability (not all the time but about 10 times a year) to see ghosts/ spirits or hear them. It’s overall useful but any you don’t want, tell them to go away as they’re not welcome with you.

You can also find healers (find real ones of which there are many genuine ones) to rid your house of it if you have low confidence in your skills.

It’s not that woo. There’s a lot we don’t understand or can’t explain. If it’s making your life more difficult and you are able to live a normal life (I.e. don’t have mental difficulties that distort basic reality) it’s ok to try and sort it out.

I wish I’d learnt to do it earlier as I let a lot of these spirits disturb me before I had the confidence to tell them to go away. It can fix it if you ask them what they want to tell you/ want you to know. Sometimes they need to find peace and be heard and then will leave. Good luck.

This. ^ Best to just not engage really.

We (believers) don't care that they don't believe, so why do they care that we do? (And they clearly DO care or they wouldn't have come on the thread to tell us all what a load of nonsense it is.) 🙄

As I said, it's not worth bothering to engage. I honestly think that some people just sit and wait for threads like this to pop up, so they can dive onto them and start mocking people, and telling them their beliefs are ridiculous.

I just don't get why. I'm not going to ask though, because I don't care.

Somewhere I used to work had a ghost that would speak right into your ear, usually your own name. Everyone had it happen at some point. I had it three times in five years. One member of staff had a very unusual Irish name, and even she had it!
