Yep UK tax dodgers now moaning the FO should fly them home at tax payers expense.....

The irony is off the scale.

I hope everyone here remembers that a vote - and their right to vote - is literally worthless.

Odd to get worked up over something so trivial.

You're trying to upset the algorithms. Excellent 👌

FO ? Seems appropriate.

I wonder if anyone has started a petition to insist they (or their insurance) pay any repatriation costs.

SerendipityJane · 01/03/2026 17:09

placemats · 01/03/2026 16:53

Hunker down is the advice. And anyway what does the FO even do?

Rock and a hard place. A lot of insurers will be forensically picking anything that comes from the Foreign Office as proof that don't need to payout.

Also people who cannot travel - for whatever reason - could find themselves losing their jobs. Or having to scale back their ambitions. Pretty shit if you have just exchanged prior to moving out.

DuncinToffee · 01/03/2026 17:11

Will the government put them up in hotels?

'Acts of war' not covered by insurance - usual and common exemption

And that's the FOs problem because..?

Who said this is a war ? When was there last a "war" ?

This is a special military operation.

But yes, a lot of people could suddenly find they are well out of pocket.

There's a hotel near me that houses refugees from the withdrawal of Afghanistan. It's a lovely location.

Many refugees find themselves well out of pocket.

Someone needs to have a chat with Facebook algorithms. I'm getting so many ads for holidays in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman, Saudi etc. despite never having expressed any interest whatsoever in these as holiday destinations.

Absolutely. I think Hannah has a great future in politics. She has a lot of charisma.

just catching up.

I absolutely agree with this. Her election win speech was brilliant and interesting and genuinely heartfelt.

Im glad the by election was a vote for the left.

Im not particularly left wing but Labour is swimming too far from the centre to the right for me chasing reform and I absolutely DO NOT want that sort of politics in the country I love.

I really hope the result gives Starmer the kick il the arse he needs.

itsgettingweird · 01/03/2026 18:15

Does anyone watch BGT?

I don’t usually but it was on yesterday in the background as I tidied up. Then a man from Essex came on and said he was performing a poem about halogens the country. I was expecting some shite performance.

But my word - he was fabulous. The words were fabulous. The sentiment was fabulous.

I really urge anyone to watch it. He was called Sonny.

dontcallmelen · 01/03/2026 18:23

Another add on for placemat tv programmes “Mum” Lesley Manville with & superb ensemble cast im sure most of you have seen it, if not throughly recommend was on BB2 presume it’s on streaming somewhere, I adore the detectorist the writing the cast & the music totally sublime, must catch up with Small Prophet’s.

placemats · 01/03/2026 18:25

So will Reeves statement get any traction? Given the excellent news regarding OBR reports, I have no doubt Chris Mason will be happy 😂

BestIsWest · 01/03/2026 18:32

@dontcallmelen Oh I LOVED Mum! I might watch it again.

My friend comes from his neck of the words and showed me a video of him a while ago. It’s an excellent message.

Lovely Welsh themed Freak Zone, tonight DaffodilDaffodilDaffodil

Morning all

Thought this sums things up well

So currently Bluesky believes Keir Starmer is going to cause World War III as a puppet of Donald Trump, Twitter believes he’s a beta cuck who should have launched missiles ahead of the Americans, and Facebook believes that video of the puppy playing with the tiger is real and not AI.

You forgot Jenrick's big scoop, Duncin, which he was trailing yesterday.

Reeves is friends with a radical Islamist. I watched his video on Twitter but it was a bit garbled. I am sure the Mail will provide more detail.

It does. Starmer can't win either way with this, can he? I wonder if he feels like throwing in the towel.

Evenstar · 02/03/2026 09:00

Seems a delightful gentleman who got involved with the lamp post flag campaign has got himself in a bit of bother 🙄

Home Office says there are 300K Brits in the ME

One of them told the FT

“Moved to Dubai for tax shelter and now I’m in a bomb shelter,”
