Detectorists
Ghosts
Upstart Crow
Can you keep a secret?
What we do in the shadows
Small Prophets

They are all why I pay my TV licence.

(Feel free to add more)

I’m very sad that I’m unable to watch Upstart Crow. David Mitchell gives me the heebiegeebies and the rage concurrently and I simply cannot look at him. I know I would enjoy it with literally anyone else in the role.

Edit: literally isn’t right. Matt Lucas or David Walliams or one or two others would also be out for t(e same reasons!

Some Radio 4 ?

Of course, especially The Sunday edition of the Archers.

Oh I like David Mitchell. Would I Lie to You is very funny, especially the bit when they have to match a random person with the contestants.

I have no idea why I react so viscerally to him! I do t think he’s ever done anything to deserve it (unless I’ve forgotten something which tipped me over the edge) I just can’t look at the man. He seems smug and arrogant and a whole load of other stuff I have no real evidence of…

I’ve read the recipe and I’m a bit confused. It says empty the coconut milk, keep the solids and throw away the liquid. I find it’s about 50/50 whether coconut milk in the tin has separated like that. What do you do if it hasn’t?

Ive never had that problem once the coconut milk has been in the fridge overnight.

So Muslims voted - in bloc - for a candidate for a party headed by a (reluctant) Jew ??

really says a lot about how toxic ReformaTory are.

What exactly is a reluctant Jew?

BIossomtoes · 28/02/2026 14:25

Thank you @countrygirl99. I’ll definitely give that a go when the weather improves.

BIWI · 28/02/2026 14:25

I like David Mitchell, but some reason don't like him in Upstart Crows. I think the writing/humour is all a bit too 'try hard' and sometimes obvious.

I'd also like to add Black Ops and Piglets to the list - recent comedies that we have enjoyed.

SerendipityJane · 28/02/2026 14:29

Has anyone seen the seriously delusional thread on the Tory party ? There is no way that translates into a 1.9% showing

AMuffinWalloper · 28/02/2026 14:35

@SerendipityJane do you use some sort of scale or criteria whereby you can quantify a person's enthusiasm for their Jewishness?

MsJinks · 28/02/2026 14:35

SerendipityJane · 28/02/2026 13:30

Some Radio 4 ?

I listen to R4 - my annoyance with BBC fails there - but I don’t need a licence fortunately, and generally listen on Sounds.
Currently, looking forward to binging the latest series of ‘This Thing of Darkness’, which I highly recommend to those who listen to radio series / dramas.

I think that possibly the best way might be to ask them ?

Any other bright ideas ?

Karistyleaftea · 28/02/2026 15:18

I loved The Lincoln Lawyer but it might be on Netflix?
I could listen to "Mickey Haller's" voice all day.

On a different note,
I sometimes wonder how our PM gets up to face
another day?
His job is so very serious (especially geopolitics and the ever shifting decisions from across the pond) currently and the vicious , unfair reporting adds ten fold to this.
I am so utterly sick of the BBC I finally decided that I could not stomach QT this week.

I gave up on QT when it became homeopathic.

Apart from skimming the news website, I gave up on news and "debate" back in 2017 after a egregiously partisan interview with Nick Robinson, Tony Blair and Nigel Farage on the Toady programme.

But R4 comedy and some science and history are still good.

Ask who? I'm asking you as those are your words. What questions could you possibly ask 'them' to come to your conclusion?

You seem to be saying you're in favour of profiling Jews in order to check their stance on their Jewishness- what's your criteria for judgement? What aspects of their Jewishness does a Jew have to disavow in order to qualify as a reluctant Jew (in all seriousness, wtf?), worthy of people's votes or approval?

I really am at a loss here.

You may well go around with a list of criteria in your mind that make someone "Jewish". But for some reason I don't.

Besides what happens when a person says "I'm not Jewish", but my checklist says they are ?

BIossomtoes · 28/02/2026 17:10

I’ve just watched Thursday’s QT, I don’t blame you for giving up on it Jane. What a shambles.

Karistyleaftea · 28/02/2026 17:16

I'm especially glad that I opted out @blossomtoes hearing that!

It was awful. There was a right wing journalist who monopolised the time with arrogant, rude diatribes and the politicians on the panel could barely get a word in edgeways. Bruce was useless and didn’t even try to shut her down. Hopefully she’ll never get invited back.

LlttledrummergirI · 28/02/2026 17:26

@BIossomtoes they have at least one right wing journalist on every week. These usually shout over everyone, make snide comments and bang on about the evils of immigrants.

I didn't ask you what you think makes someone Jewish, I asked you what you think makes a Jew a reluctant Jew.

I don't think you're at a loss at all judging by the attempts at deflection and misdirection to avoid answering the question.

BIossomtoes · 28/02/2026 17:29

I know. This one was really extra though - the rudeness and arrogance were off the scale.

There was never and need to expand the panel to 5. Doing so ruined the aesthetics and the quality of debate. So effectively it's hard to believe it wasn't deliberate.

It's not clear yet, whether the BBC has extracted its corporate head from its corporate arse, but I suspect the whole nonsense about "balance" was involved

DuncinToffee · 28/02/2026 17:33

I can watch Match of Day tonight

Given up on QT ages ago

To misquote another fantastic series from the BBC, The Royle Family, 'balance my arse' - attributes to Jim Royle.
