Which old TV shows would you like to watch but they just have too many episodes?

I am not one for rewatching shows but I recently did start Stranger Things from the beginning again in preparation for Season 5 (and because I couldn’t remember a damn thing from my first watch!), and to be honest, I really enjoyed refreshing my memory. I started to think of some other TV shows that I missed the first time round but the amount of episodes are putting me off starting any! My list so far is:

The Sopranos
Mad Men
Boardwalk Empire
Game of Thrones
Sex and the City
Game of Thrones (maybe… 🤔)
Lost (I watched all but the last series of this so would need to start again to refresh my memory!)

Greys Anatomy

Oh and Desperate Housewives

Mad Men
The West Wing
The Sopranos

I prefer a film or a mini series on the whole, most long running TV shows are only good for the first one or two series, then they start repeating ideas, or just changing characters. It really annoys me when there are inconsistencies in plots or character backgrounds, just because the writers need to keep the thing churning.

I've not seen Game of Thrones, Lost, or any of the other biggies, not going to be worth the effort.

I rewatched Deadwood recently, which is utterly fantastic, but honestly, the first series was by far the best, and there's no reason to watch after that. It has a perfect arc, it's enough. It jumps the shark a bit in series two.

Greys Anatomy

I’ve never seen that either!

Don’t waste your time rewatching Lost. The ending was so shite I wish I’d watched all but the final season.

SprogletsMum · 14/02/2026 19:15

Greys anatomy is worth it!

Oh and Desperate Housewives

I LOVED Desperate Housewives! I used to get snuggled up in bed with snacks on the nights it aired ☺️

West Wing and Sopranos (which I did watch first couple of series of at the time), and The Wire too. All too much of a commitment! But I intend to, one day...

I'd love to rewatch silent witness from the start

Fitzcarraldo353 · 14/02/2026 19:30

I've joined at started re-watching ER now that it's on Netflix. There are 15 seasons, each with 22 episodes - not like shows these days with far fewer episodes per season. I saw all of ER when it was on originally but watching it all again now.

Favouritefruits · 14/02/2026 19:40

I’m going old skool I’d love to rewatch Londons Burning but think it might look a bit dated now.

YelramBob · 14/02/2026 19:58

I had a conversation with my dad earlier about The Fall, he's just discovered it and started series 3. I can't remember much past the first series even though I watched all of them 🤔 Time for a re watch 🫣

Perzival · 14/02/2026 20:31

I loved Desperate Housewives, Lost and GoT. We've recently rewatched Quantum Leap and have just started Yellow Stone again (love Beth). We regularly watch old episodes of MASH too.

Criminal Minds

Greys Anatomy

Greys anatomy is great, especially the earlier seasons. I started watching it and watched the whole 12 seasons that were out at the time while I was in my depression waiting for my missed miscarriage to pass

1000StrawberryLollies · 14/02/2026 21:52

I don't understand why the number of episodes would put you off. Surely if it's good enough to want to re-watch, it's good to have more episodes to look forward to. I say that as someone who's just started watching Game of Thrones for the 4th time Grin

ValidPistachio · 14/02/2026 21:53

The Wire.

Idutp · 14/02/2026 21:57

Im a sucker for a long show, west wing is absolutely fabulous, recommend even just the first two seasons

CaveMum · 14/02/2026 21:59

I try to rewatch The West Wing at least once a year, and I’m also currently on my umpteenth Buffy rewatch and have also watched Scrubs several times, can’t wait for the reboots of both!

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 14/02/2026 22:14

I keep thinking maybe I'll try The Sopranos.

Tried The Wire when everyone was saying how great it was and despite Idris Elba I just couldn't get into it at all.
Deadwood is good but don't bother with the film.

Its alright tbh - Ive got the first seven? series on DVD (they were A LOT cheaper when I bought the set than they are now). Soldier soldier is better imho but Ive watched both over and over.

the80sweregreat · 14/02/2026 22:28

The American office. I never did finish it.

CloakedInGucci · 14/02/2026 22:30

ER and The West Wing.

Grey’s Anatomy is worth watching, especially the first maybe 10-12 seasons.

You’ve said sex and the city - I do think that’s good (although not aged well in parts), and remember the episodes are only 30 mins on tv, so only ~22 mins of actual episode.

HopSpringsEternal · 14/02/2026 22:32

God I loved The Wire. Such good TV.
