Which old TV shows would you like to watch but they just have too many episodes?

I am not one for rewatching shows but I recently did start Stranger Things from the beginning again in preparation for Season 5 (and because I couldn’t remember a damn thing from my first watch!), and to be honest, I really enjoyed refreshing my memory. I started to think of some other TV shows that I missed the first time round but the amount of episodes are putting me off starting any! My list so far is:

The Sopranos
Mad Men
Boardwalk Empire
Game of Thrones
Sex and the City
Game of Thrones (maybe… 🤔)
Lost (I watched all but the last series of this so would need to start again to refresh my memory!)

I loved ER and it's just come to Netflix. I want to watch but just don't know if I can commit all those viewing hours!

keeperofdarktails · 16/02/2026 18:33

I know what you mean by too many episodes. I'd love to rewatch peaky blinders, game of thrones, line of duty and breaking bad but for some reason feel put off by the length, though only GOT is probably the only really lengthy one in that list.

I'm going to rewatch Hacks and the L Word anyway, as I love both shows, lengthy or not!

If anyone is interested in watching something truly gripping and so watchable, who isn't? What I am about to recommend is just an absolute gift! Under rated I over looked it for years, now I've watched every episode and am so sad I'm finished.I am looking forward to when I have forgotten some of what happens so I can re watch. This is hands down one of the best series ever made, for the acting, the story lines, the settings, characters and music. It's.......BOSCH! ❤️👏✨️

I've joined at started re-watching ER now that it's on Netflix. There are 15 seasons, each with 22 episodes - not like shows these days with far fewer episodes per season. I saw all of ER when it was on originally but watching it all again now.

I'm really tempted to do this i loved it first time round

themesses · 16/02/2026 19:58

Greys anatomy is definitely worth a watch. I was late to the game with it but SIL recommended it and I watched the whole lot in about 5 months.

Orange is the new black is also amazing.

This thread has inspired me to start on ER I think!

Greys Anatomy

DD recently binge watched every single season over a period of weeks. She must have watched it at every opportunity. I don't think I'd have the patience!

I’ve never seen that either!

Me and DS started Greys Anatomy in the summer holidays, we’re now on Season 11 😳

pollymere · 16/02/2026 20:44

Currently watching House and Waterloo Road. Still in the early series but glad I decided to.

I'd love to watch all of Murder She Wrote but there are far too many episodes and I get to sections where I've seen all of them.

BlackCat14 · 16/02/2026 20:47

Bad Girls- I loved it so much as a teenager and would love to see it again as an adult but there’s just so much of it!

Ladybird69 · 16/02/2026 20:49

@TakingTheHorseToFrance please can you tell me where you are watching nurse Jackie

Lansonmaid · 16/02/2026 20:55

Waking the Dead, loved the interaction between Trevor Eve and Sue Johnston

Silent Witness was great until about series 16, haven’t watched it for ages

Changeychangersen · 16/02/2026 21:10

West Wing
Firefly
Battlestar Galactica

Zoopet · 16/02/2026 21:24

House.
Life on Mars.
Ashes to Ashes.
All brilliant.

OnTheBoardwalk · 16/02/2026 21:30

Spooks is good and hasn’t aged

ive rewatched xfiles, er and the wire and I really enjoyed them and noticed a lot more 2nd time watching

riceuten · 16/02/2026 21:34

Oh yes - ‘Lost’ definitely suffers from the fact the writers not knowing how to finish it (why actually finish it at all?)

Spoiler alert - at the end of Series 4, the writers apparently said ‘The island is NOT purgatory’, and at the end of Series 6, er…..

it gave all the impression of a rush job to wrap things up.

LiftAndCoast · 16/02/2026 21:37

Star Trek. I love it but I only ever got to watch random episodes years ago, except for DS9 which I later watched from the beginning.

I think watching all of classic Star Trek from the original series pilot to the end of Enterprise would take about 2 years if you watched an episode a day!

Warmhandscoldheart · 16/02/2026 21:38

I'm rewatching Westworld, hopefully this time I might actually understand the later seasons 😄

XenoBitch · 16/02/2026 21:41

Prime Suspect. It would take me years to watch them all.
Saying that, I am working my way (again) through Star Trek: TNG.

FielderSoprano · 16/02/2026 21:46

@Isntiticonic agreed, have you read the book series, they are fantastic, though I didn’t picture Harry as Titus he did a great job

FielderSoprano · 16/02/2026 21:47

@Warmhandscoldheart I don’t think I’m intelligent enough to understand Westworld but it has some great actors in

princesspadam · 16/02/2026 21:47

Nurse Jackie is on paramount

PurpleFlower1983 · 16/02/2026 21:49

The X-Files but stopping at the first film, or possibly the end of season 7.
