Which old TV shows would you like to watch but they just have too many episodes?

I am not one for rewatching shows but I recently did start Stranger Things from the beginning again in preparation for Season 5 (and because I couldn’t remember a damn thing from my first watch!), and to be honest, I really enjoyed refreshing my memory. I started to think of some other TV shows that I missed the first time round but the amount of episodes are putting me off starting any! My list so far is:

The Sopranos
Mad Men
Boardwalk Empire
Game of Thrones
Sex and the City
Game of Thrones (maybe… 🤔)
Lost (I watched all but the last series of this so would need to start again to refresh my memory!)

ER
I've just rewatched Midsomer Murders from the beginning and rather enjoyed it. Vera too.

RedRiverShore6 · 14/02/2026 22:32

ER looks very, very long, longer than Criminal Minds that I ploughed through recently. Just finished Person of Interest which was over 100 episodes so not as long but still long. Watching Trying now which is quite short then may embark on ER marathon

I've joined at started re-watching ER now that it's on Netflix. There are 15 seasons, each with 22 episodes - not like shows these days with far fewer episodes per season. I saw all of ER when it was on originally but watching it all again now.

I’ve rewatched ER countless times since its end in 2009, I have the DVDs and it was on channel 4 so could download them to sky… I got all but 3 episodes from the end last September when they removed it. I usually watch them whilst doing housework, ironing etc. I’ve just started Chicago fire but once I’m done I’ll rewatch er again 🙃

I'm guessing ER is good, I'm old but have never watched it.

RedRiverShore6 · 14/02/2026 22:40

Actually just looked and Criminal Minds has over 350 episodes and ER 331, CM took about 3 month iirc

whirlyhead · 15/02/2026 08:48

I’ve watched ER all the way through 3 times now. It’s aged amazingly well and it’s so fast paced you don’t notice the length of the episodes.

im working my way through homeland again but I’ve just reached grim series 6 (i think) which was upsetting enough first time around (peter quinn!!) so I am trying to pluck up the courage to continue.

my partner is on his 4th time through californication so I have finally started watching that with him. Surprisingly enjoyable!

RedRiverShore6 · 15/02/2026 09:24

I'm starting ER but I'm going to pace myself, I was going to watch it on 4 but didn't get round to it but now it's on Netflix and I pay for no ads I'm watching it but plan on it taking a while

Im on season 5 of Nurse Jackie and its feeling like a bit of a chore... loved the first 3 seasons

Have tried The Wire a couple of times but cant get into it

I don't understand why the number of episodes would put you off. Surely if it's good enough to want to re-watch, it's good to have more episodes to look forward to. I say that as someone who's just started watching Game of Thrones for the 4th time Grin

Same! The more episodes the better!

EarlofShrewsbury · 15/02/2026 09:43

Downtown Abbey

Mumteedum · 15/02/2026 09:43

I've seen Mad Men at least twice, The Good Wife, more. I think some series though are too tough a watch when you know what's coming. Can't rewatch Breaking Bad and wouldn't bother with GoT.

RedRiverShore6 · 15/02/2026 09:44

Game of Thrones is 'only' 74 episodes, Criminal Minds is over 350, I did find it a bit daunting but it was so good I ploughed on through

PippaToriFripp · 15/02/2026 09:45

I’ve only just started watching GoT and just can’t seem to commit.

The Walking Dead is also technically right up my street but seems like a huge task.

I rewatched most of ER during covid. Brilliant show especially the early episodes. There are a couple of episodes where the acting and story line is outstanding, I’d forgot all about those episodes, but rewatching in my 50s instead of my 20s the show lands differently, but just as brilliant.

Whatineed · 15/02/2026 09:51

I'd love to watch the Dallas series from the beginning, I remember my friends at school watched with their parents but mine wouldn't watch it at all.

I did get through the Sopranos as it was on very late when it came out on TV. Definitely worth a watch OP.

puppyparent · 15/02/2026 10:02

Literally every series. Which is why I’ve given up watching any other than mini series (8 episodes tops)

I'd love to rewatch silent witness from the start

Ive just started on it, 5 seasons down, only 24 to go!

MaloryJones · 15/02/2026 10:05

Lost.
I am recording it though.

Teenagerantruns · 15/02/2026 10:07

Breaking bad and game of thrones.
I used to love ER would like to watch again.

AltitudeCheck · 15/02/2026 10:09

Homeland
Prison Break

BorgQueen · 15/02/2026 10:13

We’re rewatching Person of intererest but there are a LOT of episodes.
Stargate is another great but lengthy rewatch.

EleanorReally · 15/02/2026 10:17

Spooks
but is it too dated?

very dated

i think you can actually start a series, i started ER

and then naturally give up

GrandmaMazur · 15/02/2026 10:21

The Americans is one of the best programmes I’ve ever watched.
