Or, to say it like it is:

His majesty has said he will support His Majesties police if they decide to investigate His Majesties brother ?

Doesn't sound quite so impressive when you boil it down.

And frankly, loathsome as AMW may be, Brexit and Farage have screwed over far more people, if we are directing resources.

It is a big shift from paying out millions to save his sorry arse.

I wonder how Elizabeth II will be seen in 200 years time ?

but do the voting public in Scotland really want Starmer to go?

Not a Labour voter, but I am a Scottish voter, and IMO Starmer has shown such an egregious lack of judgement that he can't possibly remain as PM.

FWIW I have more respect for Starmer than any of the previous Tory incumbents who were all utterly repugnant for their own reasons, but the office of PM is ultimately the person making decisions for the running of the country, and once you've displayed such a lack of judgement you no longer have the credibility.

I don't think there is necessarily a better replacement waiting in the wings, but that fact alone shouldn't be used as an excuse to leave him in post. If you've proven your unsuitability, you remain unsuitable irrespective of the abilities of your prospective replacements.

I also think that it's even in debate shows how far standards in politics have fallen in the UK. 30-40 years ago this would have been the end of him without question.

Mandelson was supported by plenty of people and organisations, until very recently, inc the BBC, where he was on their GE panel.

Very few at the time of appoint as US Ambassador said he shouldn't be, because of links to Epstein, its was all about comments about Trump, inc Bandenoch.

Yes it was a stupid decision (in part hindsight) but we don't yet know what Starmer was told.

On his replacement, the markets don't want him to go, just as they don't want Reeves to either, removing KS would mean RR goes too, Gilts fall, economic uncertainty, higher debt...

Its quite amazing that the guy never mentioned in the EF's is the one who may well lose his job as a result of the EF's..... Meanwhile we all fawn over Trump.....

The media fawns over Farage. Poor Kemi.

Starmer greeted by cheers at PLP meeting - behind closed doors

Re the Olympics -I haven’t been able to supervise what with gadding about in London. Turns out the curling goes better when I don’t supervise (no spoiler, it’s not finished).

PLP meeting has finished - initial feedback appears pretty positive but I guess we'll see

itsgettingweird · 09/02/2026 20:07

I hope they support him.

I don’t think he should go and the media should be pushing for those names in the files to run the country. They aren’t even hiding their double standards.

Right now we need continuity and stability.

Karistyleaftea · 09/02/2026 20:11

@Alexandra2001 You make some good points.
On LK yesterday she, (LK) looked furious when Pat McFadden passed it back to her that she had interviewed P Mand recently and she hadn't seemed bothered by his links then, or questioned him much about it , ever!
Our PM has such strength , how he is coping with this relentless onslaught I do not know.
He is not the evil monster here, this hounding is getting beyond ridiculous now .
He has the stoicism to deal with this and there seems to bit of a shift coming, giving him more support as people realise the media are being totally out of order now. They need to stop.
IMO.

LlttledrummergirI · 09/02/2026 22:25

We need stability as a country, we don't need more of the dicking around we got from the tories.
We also need the media (especially the apparent neutral bullshit BBC), to start holding those up to their necks in the scandal to account. That means Reform, whether they like it or not.

I don't understand why there is no pressure being applied to those involved, and I'm becoming increasingly irate with it.

rockstarshoes · 09/02/2026 22:28

I’m just watching ITV NEWS it feels like the press are trying to bring down the Govt and the Monarchy in the same week!

i don’t know what they expect the King & Prince William to do? They’ve taken his title, kicked him out out of his home! I mean no sympathy for him what so ever but do they expect KC to drag him down to the nearest police station?

What’s their game? The press I mean not KC!

Notonthestairs · 09/02/2026 22:38

Missed much of the news today. Scrolled through to catch up. Notable excitement from certain commentators. Which they then had to roll back. agree with @LlttledrummergirI‘s assessment. Nobody voted for more Tory style psychodramas.

RafaistheKingofClay · 09/02/2026 23:19

Farage appears to have called for an end to home working and flexible working to increase productivity.

It’s going to take me a while to stop laughing. I presume this means he will be spending more time both in Clacton and in Parliament.

PickAChew · 10/02/2026 00:02

Didn't Badeough take that line a year ago? He's slipping.

InMySpareTime · 10/02/2026 05:45

Ending flexible working doesn’t even improve productivity anyway. It excludes thousands of people from productive work. Disabled people, those living in “left behind” communities far from city hubs, those with caring responsibilities etc.
What gets me is the sheer hypocrisy of insisting that despite social/medical limitations everyone should be able to do some work, then insisting that work means full time, office based work, then complaining that people need accommodations and time off from work.
People are not units from which we extract work, they are complicated, social beings with lives and varying needs throughout their working lives.
Companies that understand that have loyal, productive employees. Companies that insist on “team players giving 110% to the company” have a churn of employees who leave as they burn out or get better offers.

Acknowledging any of that is "woke" though.

MsJinks · 10/02/2026 07:52

As always it will fully appeal to his fan base - those who think some folk loll around at home waiting for a gilt edged pension - and they want this to stop (as they don’t have it)
Then they will be surprised when it applies to them, particularly the flexible working - I think maybe it is part of the women at home breeding fantasy Reform has, as it would disproportionately affect people caring and as we know this is still mainly women.
My only teeniest tiniest pleasure of getting a Reform gov’t would be seeing how folk voting for leopards reacted to these leopards eating their face - but it wouldn’t be worth it, nor do I even like myself being this person. I am still doubtful they’ll win in 3 years - best if they start to fail soon.

Notonthestairs · 10/02/2026 07:54

Farage has a bloody cheek given his routine.

But it’s not really about ‘productivity’ is it.

Flexible working policies encourages the disabled & women. Allows for people with caring responsibilities. Diversity.
And we know diversity is bad because Trump doesn’t like it.
