I’m just watching ITV NEWS it feels like the press are trying to bring down the Govt and the Monarchy in the same week!

i don’t know what they expect the King & Prince William to do? They’ve taken his title, kicked him out out of his home! I mean no sympathy for him what so ever but do they expect KC to drag him down to the nearest police station?

What’s their game? The press I mean not KC!

There is a huge difference between KS and the royal family. And I am glad that at last the RF are starting to feel the pressure. The royal family have protected AW for years, his mum paid millions to his accuser. There had been no accountability, no investigation. The King is only doing the bare minimum. The Royals need to be held to account. KC saying that he will co-operate with the police. Big woop. Of course he bloody should.

Ending flexible working doesn’t even improve productivity anyway. It excludes thousands of people from productive work. Disabled people, those living in “left behind” communities far from city hubs, those with caring responsibilities etc.
What gets me is the sheer hypocrisy of insisting that despite social/medical limitations everyone should be able to do some work, then insisting that work means full time, office based work, then complaining that people need accommodations and time off from work.
People are not units from which we extract work, they are complicated, social beings with lives and varying needs throughout their working lives.
Companies that understand that have loyal, productive employees. Companies that insist on “team players giving 110% to the company” have a churn of employees who leave as they burn out or get better offers.

Well said and 100% agree.

i work in a school and so don’t officially get AL.

However I am allowed unpaid leave to support DS at swim meets (he’s disabled) because my employer is sensible enough to realise you don’t get someone else with my level of training and experience very often and they’ll lose me if they aren’t flexible.

In return I don’t take the piss back. I did a few hours extra the other evening to attend a webinar. If they clock watched so would I!

PandoraSocks · 10/02/2026 08:05

I hate to say it, but a big chunk of Farage's fan base don't even work!

I assume Farage is referring to the public sector only? He can't tell the private sector what to do.

One big problem is going to be finding more office space to house everyone as much of the public sector has reduced its office space in recent years. He really hasn't thought it through, has he?

Notonthestairs · 10/02/2026 08:10

The public sector are the layabouts obviously. Civil servants, police, armed forces, health care workers, teachers, local government.

Can’t think who’d benefit from the need for more office space - wonder if there are any property developers in Reform?

LlttledrummergirI · 10/02/2026 08:22

I'm private sector and frequently thank my employer for the sensible, holistic view they have towards employees. This is why I stay where I am.
I am more productive working from home- no gossiping in the kitchen, and it's quieter so I can concentrate more.
Farage is a dinosaur.

Agreed. Have been WFH for years. (Albeit I do go into the office and other sites occasionally) but the flexibility is amazing,. I wish I had this when I had very small children. Its a godsend for working families. And yes I am more productive.
I suspect that Farage's fanbase will regret this. What are they going to do - force people into offices? That really worked for JRM.

Jeremy Kyle was presenting that Reform event, nough said

This is straight out of the maga handbook

This is pretty menacing.

Sarah Pochin wrote to Bangor's university student run debating society requesting that she attend to "answer questions from students."

When they said "no" Reform rolled all it's tanks onto the lawns and said they'll cut funding to the entire university if they win.

Bangor uni is one of the very few places that does Marine Biology - so if that's what you want to study Oakshott that's very much a place you'd want to go - silly woman

Notonthestairs · 10/02/2026 09:08

Marine biology is woke.

Also agree banning WFH is not going to be popular with many which is not a good policy for a populist 'party' - will be quietly sidelined when they realise this

PandoraSocks · 10/02/2026 09:14

Oakeshott really is as thick as shit. The debating society turned down a request from Sarah Pochin, not the University.

I think they should have said yes. She would have been torn to shreds.

Yep. Was DS' second choice after Plymouth (which he got in to).

PandoraSocks · 10/02/2026 09:35

Reform has no chance of blocking Bangor's funding anyway, given the polling for Senedd elections. Or perhaps Dizzy Izzy doesn't understand devolution.

The thing is "Reform to ban WFH" is an algorithm friendly headline (don't worry about truth at this point). It's the right shape protein to activate the immune system of the mainstream media and cause a reaction in the form of (free) column inches.

"Reform support WFH" less so.

I hope it's not patronising to remind all news consumers that the very first question that should precede reading any story is "Why am I seeing this as opposed to anything else happening today ?"

PandoraSocks · 10/02/2026 09:43

Latest polling. Some people will be very disappointed about the (lack of) impact of the Mandelson scandal on Labour's polling.

Yes

Saw some polling [somewhere] that said almost 60% of voters have 'no interest' in the Mandelson scandal

Probably because it's not the real scandal.

Did they ask the same people if they'd like to see all the other names investigated ? I bet the answer would be more than 60%

In fact it's possible the media have pushed this as far as they dare. If the suggestion that the files are also full of media moguls is true.

The concurrent thread seems pretty damning for the "Reform are the new messiahs" press bollocks. Arse meets plate.

DuncinToffee · 10/02/2026 10:56

Reform are good at faking, I wonder who they will blame this time.

As one prescient poster noted. Support for Reform plummets when any actual policy is announced.

Maybe they will turn out to be a Santa Claus party. Everyone wants to believe in them, until you look at the reality.

(That is a riff on P.J.O'Rourkes masterful dismissal of US politics Why Santa Claus is a Democrat and God is a Republican)
