Angela Raynor being talked about as possible leader? Surely not.

I get the point of Raynor - she’s the modern Prescott, the “Everyman”, the one who the trad Labour voters might identify with, with the vaping, clubbing and tax evasion.

But as a leader on the world stage? Have we learnt nothing from Boris? Having a deeply unserious leader is surely not what the U.K. needs now, in this time of global turmoil?

Honestly if she becomes leader the U.K. will be an absolute laughing stock.

I think the good people of the United Kingdom deserve better than a choice between a self-serving, egregious liar or tax dodger representing them on the world stage. General election now, please. The swamp needs draining.

Edited

Apart from elections now. I still don't have anyone to vote for.

Friendlygingercat · 06/02/2026 14:55

I dont see what she has done is any worse than some of the misdemeanors
of Rachel Reeves. First she lied on her cv. Then she blatently lied in interviews. And she has her own housing scandal in not having the correct documentation to rent out her house, She tried to blame the agents but the buck stops at the landlord. If I was her tenant I would file a rent repayment order and get all my rent back.

You’re right. Reeves should be sacked as well.

Despicable party. Rotten to its very core.

Is your objection because she’s working class? A northerner? A woman?

Nope nothing to do with any of the above, it's because she is a lying tax dodging twat.

it doesn’t mean that they are actually smart

Arrogance becomes their downfall.

I was once a union rep - I was going a proper full time job at the same time.

I think that is how union reps are usually appointed - from the workforce.

yesterdaytoday · 06/02/2026 15:48

Mind you, at least there would be some comedy value in Rayner’s promotion to PM. And it would finish off the Labour Party for good so there’s a silver lining.

Well exactly but a union rep was given as an example of someone not having a proper job

This is a tweet from Angela Rayner. If Keir steps down I hope she practises what she preaches.

The Tories have crowned Rishi Sunak without him saying a word about
what he would do as PM. He has no mandate, no answers and no ideas.
Nobody voted for this. The public deserve their say on Britain's future through a General Election. It's time for a fresh start with Labour.

😂Hell will freeze over before Labour calls a GE. And if they did, Reform would win.

Sunak was not voted in by the Tory party membership. There was no leadership contest so Sunak never set out his stall at that point. So Rayner is correct.

As long as there is a leadership contest if Starmer steps down and the new Labour leader is elected by the party membership, Rayner will be practising exactly what she preaches.😊

Wintersonata · 06/02/2026 17:00

@AnnasFangs why did she ask for a General Election?

AnnasFangs · 06/02/2026 17:07

Wintersonata · 06/02/2026 17:00

@AnnasFangs why did she ask for a General Election?

Presumably because:

a) this was the second time the Tories had changed leader and PM in less than three years; and
b) Sunak didn't have a mandate from his own party. Which the Tory party's own membership were furious about at the time.

If the same situation arises under Labour, I will be calling for a GE too!

Kemi Badenoch is honest.

For the first time in my life I might vote Tory at the next election. I'll see how things pan out with the current libdemn who I have always liked, but I am starting to despair at their lack of backbone

Alexandra2001 · 06/02/2026 18:18

Kemi Badenoch is honest

Honest? are you joking? she hacked an MPs website & altered its contents.... thats not the actions of an Honest Person!

I believe if she did this now, she could go jail, as the law has changed.

SpringIsCome · 06/02/2026 18:53

palantir (facist) and labour friends of Israel (racist) teamed up to take away our freedoms - all coming out now with Wes Streeting selling our data

CandidLurker · 06/02/2026 09:59

Personally, I find her supercilious and condescending every time she opens her mouth. In my opinion she’d be even less popular with voters than either Keir Starmer or Angela Rayner.

Oh, ok, interesting, I haven’t come across her being like that. Didn’t realise she wasn’t popular.

ArcticBells · 06/02/2026 20:17

she’ll certainly get labour out at the next election

Notsosweetcaroline · 06/02/2026 20:25

Honestly Starmer is bad but Labour would be fucking desperate if raynor took it. They should do everything in their power to keep starner if we risk raynor,

farage is rhe stuff of nightmares but even he’s better than raynor. I can’t beleive it’s even a suggestion.

righr now labour has fucked it so badly, but this would kill the party for ever.

she appears to be uneducated to a standard required for most normal jobs to be honest.

Greenbather · 06/02/2026 20:50

No, she will not be the next Labour leader, thank goodness her own actions have taken herself out of the running for now.

Labour are in a mess, even die-hard supporters like me can admit that. But all these Labour MPs clamouring for a new leader better be careful for what they wish for. Like with the Tories, once they start swapping in new leaders like having a turn on the swings in the park, they are totally done for. The calls for a GE will get stronger and will be more justified, totally egged on by a right-wing media just salivating for the next political crises and wanting to create instability in the UK to meet their own nefarious ends.

The end game is a Reform government and then we will all see that we really have something to complain about. But perhaps we have to go through that pain for a few years to understand and then the general population will get knocked back into sense. But what a shame for Labour and their supporters that they are currently throwing it all away.

Here's one good thing Keir Starmer can do on Monday to help the situation - sack Morgan McSweeney.

ParmaViolletts · 06/02/2026 21:04

She's far from Everyman .
