I have an irrational hatred of even very slightly stale milk-he will always willingly test it for me to save me from the horror, and has done for 40 years. And since we got our new car he always remotely turns the heated seat on if he knows I’m going out-I always forget. Last week he did it from the middle of the Irish Sea!
(because this is Mumsnet, I feel the need to clarify that a. I am perfectly capable of doing these things myself and b. These are not his only virtues!)

Catches spiders
Cleans the cat litter tray

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/02/2026 06:52

Driving. I hate driving. If it wasn’t for dh the kids would never get to football and we’d never go on holiday.

BitOutOfPractice · 02/02/2026 06:55

Cook’s beautifully. Every meal.

I realise this is not a small thing.

Whoknowswhatanymore · 02/02/2026 06:56

Does the washing and ironing amongst many other things! So grateful for him!

DistractMe · 02/02/2026 06:56

Brings me my morning brew.

tumbled · 02/02/2026 06:57

Foot rubs and pedicures - I love foot rubs

Queenage · 02/02/2026 06:57

Brings me a cup of tea every morning

What a lovely man ❤️ warms my heart.

So far I’m winning-mine are the most trivial!

Please don't be that person who if their DH can no longer drive becomes a prisoner of their anxiety over driving, especially if it is going to affect other family members negatively.

DH can no longer drive for medical reasons, and I am so glad I can.

In answer to @CurlewKate DH always brings me a cup of tea first thing.

MissingSockDetective · 02/02/2026 07:04

Spiders and tea.

sittingonabeach · 02/02/2026 07:06

Opens jars

MsPug · 02/02/2026 07:08

well I'd never leave him because I love him not because he always always puts my feelings before his own but that helps 😂

rainandshine38 · 02/02/2026 07:10

De ices car, catches spiders.

Same!

ThatLilacTiger · 02/02/2026 07:27

Takes the kids off my hands and facilitates whatever 'me time' I want whenever I ask, every time, or whenever he notices I need it.

He used to be a bit slow to come remove a spider until I explained to him it was a direct measure of his value as a partner 😅 Now he's good as gold about it to be fair.

EleanorReally · 02/02/2026 07:29

does the washing up/putting away.
is home for the dog, walks her

puts air in my car tyres
goes into the attic

EleanorReally · 02/02/2026 07:30

listens to me

GrandHighPoohbah · 02/02/2026 07:33

He's willing to drive on foreign holidays, which I would find stressful.

Dollymylove · 02/02/2026 07:36

He washes and irons and gets things out of the loft 😊

LindorDoubleChoc · 02/02/2026 07:37

Gets things down from high shelves and cupboards (he is 14 inches taller), opens jars of pickled onions and beetroot, always makes time to listen to me vent about my dysfunctional family and/or job. He's just very loyal and always has my back. We're wildly unsuited in hundreds of other ways unfortunately.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 02/02/2026 07:40

Cleans the coffee grinds out of my cafetiere, even though he doesn't drink coffee himself. I don't know why I hate doing it so much.

He also empties the bins, both at home and at my elderly dad's house.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 02/02/2026 07:40

Open jars.
Carries heavy things in from the car.
Lifts things down from high shelves- this isn’t a trivial thing as if he left me, I’d have to stop using all the high shelves, I’d reduce my storage in the kitchen significantly.

Ohcrap082024 · 02/02/2026 07:43

He is Loft Man.

TheoreticallyAdult · 02/02/2026 07:45

Catch and release of all critters that darken our door. House spiders get deposited into the hot press so that he doesn’t kill them by putting them outside.

He also does a million trivial things one step ahead of me like replenishing the loo roll in the bathroom, putting on the laundry, giving me both the oysters from a roast chicken.

He’s irreplaceable.
