What very small but vital thing does your partner regularly do for you that means you can never leave?

I have an irrational hatred of even very slightly stale milk-he will always willingly test it for me to save me from the horror, and has done for 40 years. And since we got our new car he always remotely turns the heated seat on if he knows I’m going out-I always forget. Last week he did it from the middle of the Irish Sea!
(because this is Mumsnet, I feel the need to clarify that a. I am perfectly capable of doing these things myself and b. These are not his only virtues!)

How utterly pathetic.

🤣🤣🤣 I know. Did you miss the words “irrational” and “very small”?

He deals with the dead things. I am horribly squeamish and it's sooo difficult to even go near them let alone scoop them up.

Brucey bonus: DSis married a guy just as squeamish as she is, so if they have a Dead Thing issue, it's my DH who goes round to theirs to Deal With The Deceased

My DP is incredible at making up limericks on the spot.

I've now come to rely on a daily fix of very rude, very un-PC, very offensive rhymes which means I can't leave.

snowgirl1 · 03/02/2026 14:31

Pumps the tyres up on my bike
Deals with stuff that makes me squeamish - like getting an earring butterfly out from under the skin on DDs ear
Quietly takes any bag from me and carries it if we're out
Good in bed!

Does a lot generally - but having always done his own ironing, took over mine too once DC arrived as he couldn’t feed the baby…and still does it 20 years later. (Now he also provides the cash to his Revolut that DC uses for lots of takeaway food, so effectively does both 🤣)

I can’t smell very well, so would appreciate the milk tester! (My test is a fingertip taste test).

KStockHERO · 03/02/2026 14:43

So many of the examples on here would give me the massive 'ick' if DP did them for me 😂😂😂

EnchantedDaytime · 03/02/2026 14:43

He goes to visit my elderly parents (who need a lot of support) when I'm too stressed and tired to do it.

TheRuffleandthePearl · 03/02/2026 14:57

Im so sorry for your loss @BeepBoopBopthat’s heartbreaking. I will hug DH when he comes
home.

Brings me a coffee in bed most mornings
Makes a bacon sandwich on Sunday morning
Walks the dog when it’s raining or I CBA
Gets me a little snacky snack when he goes to the shop even when I didn’t ask for one
Tolerates my obsession with a particular sport
Very kind to my elderly parent

I have to say I feel a bit the same about some. And a lot don’t fit my “very small” category. And some are what I consider just routine for people who share their lives!

This is heartwarming in the extreme. I’m a single mother to one, divorced from a lazy, horrible alcoholic but to hear all these stories of love is really quite beautiful. I’m so glad all these men exist and they are such loving husbands.

Hellohelga · 03/02/2026 15:53

He deals with wasps and I deal with the spiders, by which I mean gently remove them. He will also deal with anything I threaten to swat like flies. We are the dream team.

Who got out the wrong side of the bed today?
