I have an irrational hatred of even very slightly stale milk-he will always willingly test it for me to save me from the horror, and has done for 40 years. And since we got our new car he always remotely turns the heated seat on if he knows I’m going out-I always forget. Last week he did it from the middle of the Irish Sea!
(because this is Mumsnet, I feel the need to clarify that a. I am perfectly capable of doing these things myself and b. These are not his only virtues!)

Gets up with our (stupidly early waking) dogs
Brings me coffee to help me wake up

WhatDidYouMakeOfThat · 02/02/2026 10:20

Makes me my first cup of tea in the morning to be ready when I come downstairs.

Keeping on top of the laundry.

Making sure we don’t run out of milk/bread.

De-icing my car before work.

Filling my water bottle.

Has my dinner ready for when I get home.

I take him for granted sometimes, so it’s good to acknowledge the small acts of service he does consistently.

Penelope23145 · 02/02/2026 10:21

Cooks lots of delicious food, bakes scones and muffins, checks the air in my tyres, catches mice and spiders !

Goldfsh · 02/02/2026 10:22

Always carries the shopping bags. I just flounce about in shops like a princess.

Also the foot rubs. Like for HOURS.

Pennyfan · 02/02/2026 10:24

Tells me he loves me and he looks forward to me coming home every day. Actually, that’s not a small thing. Ok, takes the bins out.

pinkpony88 · 02/02/2026 10:26

Eliminates spiders before I even know they are there 😂

GreenGodiva · 02/02/2026 10:28

I have a connective tissue disorder and really struggle with bending. My DH has put my socks on for me every day for 20 years. Obviously there are times when he isn’t here but if that’s the case he will charge my socks for me before bed so if he’s got an early start my feet aren’t cold and my socks don’t smell. He’s a babe. He also regularly goes out to get me snacks, even when it’s raining/snowing. And if I say “babe I need you” he will drop whatever he is doing, and come straight home. Basically and and our kids/grandkids are his absolute priority and he will move heaven and earth for me. He’s also incredibly tolerant and doesn’t bat an eyelid when I say I’m starting a new hobby/buying a 3d printer/ got a pet raccoon/ spent £3000k on a kiln/booked another holiday. I don’t think anybody else would put up with my shit tbh 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Cripes, reading all these is making me jealous! Nice to see there's some lovely, thoughtful husbands out there. Aww :-)

PermanentTemporary · 02/02/2026 10:33

I have literally never touched the cat litter trays in 2.5 years. For context, we have 5 cats between us.

For 18 months I thought my car charged automatically if I plugged it in. Turns out dp puts it on each time.

Difficult to pick one thing in the enormous amount he does. I am the most spoiled princess ever. In my defence I am dynamite in the sack and not a bad cook.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 02/02/2026 10:36

@PeonyPatch same here. Makes me realise how rubbish I am in comparison 😄. He still thinks he’s the lucky one though 🤷🏻‍♀️

3peassuit · 02/02/2026 10:45

Splits logs for the wood burner, spider removal and most importantly brings me my early morning tea.

trainedopossum · 02/02/2026 10:51

He unfailingly picks the best item on any menu no matter how unlikely a choice. He’s explained his system to me but I don’t have the artistry. Sometimes I just ask him to choose my meal, especially if I’m hungry and can’t make sense of the menu. He can do the same with craft beers from an extensive bar selection and he remembers which ones I liked last time.

Gribouille · 02/02/2026 10:59

@BeepBoopBop I am so sorry, it sounds like you lost a good one there. ❤️ I'm sure he'd be proud of your strength today, but that he'd also want you to take extra gentle care of yourself going forward too.

Thank you for the shot of perspective today.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 02/02/2026 11:01

Ironing and spider putter outer. No foot rubs though 😏

RottenBanana · 02/02/2026 11:01

Gets up multiple times a night to let my cat in and out the bedroom. He doesn't even like cats.

I am with you on milk tasting off before it smells off. My mum thinks I am fussy because I taste her milk before adding it to tea. She can't tell.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 02/02/2026 11:05

2 cups of tea in the morning
Sets and Empties dishwasher
Cooks dinner
Fuels the car
Programmes sat nav remotely
Makes sure car is preheated
Defrosts car
Gets car serviced
Unloads car of shopping

aberamagold · 02/02/2026 11:05

Brings me coffee in bed every morning. I don't know how I'd manage to start the day without that.

DustyMaiden · 02/02/2026 11:05

Breakfast and two cups of ta in bed every day. Paints my toenails.

Yeah, we should never take these great, thoughtful men for granted. I
I will make mine his favourite dinner tonight and remind him how wonderful he is.
Thanks

HotChocCreamAndMarshmallows · 02/02/2026 11:15

Ensures there is zero eggshell in my scrambled eggs

PermanentTemporary · 02/02/2026 11:17

fruitbrewhaha · 02/02/2026 08:52

Makes the orange lights on the car go away. I just say “there’s a weird light warning me about something” and next time
it’s gone.

I love this.

Seawolves · 02/02/2026 11:19

Brought me a cup of coffee in bed every morning without fail. I miss that so much.

Conniebygaslight · 02/02/2026 11:20

This is a lovely thread OP. I too am lucky to be married to wonderful man. Reading MN can often feel like everyone else is married to an arsehole so it's good to know there are other wonderful men out there.

Gcn · 02/02/2026 11:21

Disposes of dog poo.

Manymoresometimes · 02/02/2026 11:22

Always give me what i call "American ice" in my drinks, and when we run out he'll pop to the shop to get some more!
