I have an irrational hatred of even very slightly stale milk-he will always willingly test it for me to save me from the horror, and has done for 40 years. And since we got our new car he always remotely turns the heated seat on if he knows I’m going out-I always forget. Last week he did it from the middle of the Irish Sea!
(because this is Mumsnet, I feel the need to clarify that a. I am perfectly capable of doing these things myself and b. These are not his only virtues!)

We don’t live together but when he’s here every weekend, he brings me morning tea in bed; massages my back and neck regularly; washes the dishes; fixes things; opens jars and reaches for items I can’t get. He also brings me wine and chocolates and will take and collect the adult kids to things.

CharlotteCChapel · 02/02/2026 23:50

Does my bra up when I can't.

TheSpidermanIsHavingMeForDinnerTonight · 03/02/2026 00:09

We don't live together but he does all the DIY at mine. He services my car. He helps me do my weekly washing up (I have ADHD and I struggle with home stuff). He's a fab cook too. And sexy. Am I going off the point here...?

Oxo01 · 03/02/2026 00:19

Jaq27 · 03/02/2026 00:19

Does all the washing.
Changes our bed.
Takes out the kitchen bin
Brings me a cup of tea in the morning
Does more housework than me
Makes sure I have an orgasm (that’s vital 😂)

DilemmaDelilah · 03/02/2026 00:28

Brings me breakfast in bed every morning.
Takes the bins out
Drives me everywhere
Does the hoovering
Sorts out my medication and puts it in the daily pots for me

Those are the main things, but he does so much more as well

ComedyGuns · 03/02/2026 00:30

My DH has ADHD and only cannabis can help him. But his design and practical skills are out of this world and it is in my and our family’s best interests to help him. Sorry if that wasn’t quite what you were looking for.

Pyjamatimenow · 03/02/2026 00:36

Cooks. I hate cooking

ThejustbrothersCarlenaNSoul · 03/02/2026 01:38

DW is the loveliest kind natured person despite her painful disabilities and soldgering on in her physically demanding job.

canklesmctacotits · 03/02/2026 02:45

Orders an uber for me even when he’s not coming with me. We have the same account.

Jack80 · 03/02/2026 07:12

Does the finances, de ices my car, will take 18 year old to her friends as I'm not a fan of going to places I don't know but would if I really had to drive there. Takes turns picking the girls up from the train station. Does the food shopping.

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 03/02/2026 07:22
  • Bins out
  • School admin
  • Fills my car up with petrol & pays for it without me asking
  • Locks the house up every night
  • Walks the dogs if I’m not fancying it on a morning.
  • Forever nipping to the shops
  • Deals with anything I feel too anxious to sort.
  • Cooks dinner if I’m late home from work.

My list, of the things I do for him are different but equally as long. We’re both so kind to each other. Great friendship.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/02/2026 07:57

I’ve remembered something he does. He empties the teabags out of the teapot before he goes to bed so I don’t have to in the morning. He’ll often wash my favourite cup up too and leave it out ready.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 03/02/2026 08:06

The bins ! I’ve never taken my bins out in 5 years living in my new flat 🤣🤣🤣

mynameisjeff20 · 03/02/2026 09:10

Oh there’s so many things! He’s the most amazing partner. Not really trivial but:

He cooks every single meal (I am an awful cook!)
Washes my hair when I have a bath
Changes all the poopy nappies!
Gives me time away from the kids/takes over and lets me go for naps when I’m feeling poorly
Takes all the bins out
Prepares my medication for me to take every night
Does the morning school run! Angel 😇

Brings the logs in for the log burner

How utterly pathetic.

How utterly pathetic.

How very unkind and unnecessary...

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/02/2026 10:49

He doesn’t cook, but he clears up the kitchen, loads the dishwasher - and unloads it in the morning.

No it’s not! The smell of sour milk honestly makes me heave. At work I used to have to get someone else to sniff the milk bottle. I don’t like milk in tea anyway - it tastes vile to me - but I do have a little in coffee.

MrsAvocet · 03/02/2026 10:57

DH lets the chickens out first thing in the morning which I really appreciate in the Winter!

Lauralaaaa · 03/02/2026 10:58

Whenever I am leaving and whenever I get home, no matter what he is doing in the house, he will come to the front door to give me a big hug. It makes me feel so special every time!

Nellodee · 03/02/2026 11:14

We have three long curly haired women/girls in the house, but my bald husband unclogs the bath plug hole for us.

thefamous5 · 03/02/2026 11:16

Loves me, warts and all.

cinnamontroll · 03/02/2026 11:18

Picks up the Chinese. I’ve never went to a Chinese takeaway in the 22 yrs I’ve been living in the UK. It started as I was young and unsure how to order here as the Chinese was different here, so DH would always pick up as I like different dishes from different takeaways and he goes about collecting them all for me. Now it’s a joke between us as I’ve never done it and I think he secretly loves that he can do this for me as I am normally quite independent person.
