Is anyone else done with Vinted?

I have been a seller for 2.5 years on Vinted, mainly used it for clearing out before I take the charity shop and use the funds to buy things I need in future.
Happy buyers, 5* reviews, I've bought items some fab, some haven't been great but it is what it is.
The past 4ish months it's gone down the pan.
Complete change in sizing which has caused my items listed no be incorrect. Great that you have more opportunity for buyers as they have partnered in USA but which takes forever to get the money due to shipping (you can't turn this option off) and buyers being very fussy, even though you are practically a jumble sale.
I like to sell on Vinted as it's a great way to declutter but it's literally becoming so much more stress than it's worth now.

Any tips on how to make items sell on eBay?

I find that on Vinted items usually sell or get traction within 24h, whereas on eBay… nada. Tumbleweed.

I tend to sell accessible designer items like Alaia, Jacquemus, Prada, Bottega, used, in the £50-100 range. On eBay I don’t even get items favourited, nevermind any sales. Pictures and descriptions are very detailed and prices below average, so I don’t get it.

I schedule my listings to finish between 8pm-10pm at night especially on a weekend. I don't get a huge amount of favourites but find, like on Vinted, people are impulse buyers so may buy something going off an hour later and that's the time most people are active.

I believe that things will only sell for what people are willing to pay for them so I initially put on for what I want on the 8 week repeat listings. If it doesn't sell then I start reducing.

Vinted might be better for more expensive clothes though but I find anything else goes better on eBay. What I found annoying on Vinted is that it only pushes your items if you're constantly listing and I don't have time to do that. I prefer to put a handful of things on every few weeks so eBay's algorithm works better for that.

I completely gave up on Vinted but for quite a different reason.

There were a few things I looked for which eventually popped up and I bought them. The packages arrived but, in each instance, the different sellers hadn't a clue how to pack safely and securely. One lovely piece of china, easily over 100 years old, was squeezed into a cardboard box with four sheets of crumpled newspaper. It arrived in pieces.

The seller offered to discount by a third of the price and a gentle haggle with Vinted got my money returned.

It would be lovely to say this was a 'one-off', but it wasn't. I did suggest to Vinted they stress that things are well packed and offer advice and suggestions but in the end it says more about the gormlessness of people today.

I find using EBay the best, I wasn’t keen on vinted.

It’s not just the money, it’s the environmental impact.

Exactly this.

At least 60% of my wardrobe is second hand and that's increasing all the time. There are enough items of clothing on this planet to clothe the next 6 generations.

Buying second hand through Vinted or Ebay is to be applauded, not sneered at.

Twitch1994 · 01/02/2026 20:16

I used to buy / sell quite a bit on Vinted, but the sizing change and buyers constantly sending super low (quite frankly rude) offers and then expecting everything to be posted immediately (I’m not Amazon!!) has made me delete everything and take most stuff to the charity shop! Complete waste of time! It used to be great but now not at all IMHO.

Revavalley · 01/02/2026 20:24

I buy and sell on vinted but I'm sick to the back teeth of the low ball offers, even if I write, NO OFFERS, some cheeky fucker thinks it doesn't apply to them. Its got worse after Christmas. I'm switching all my listings to ebay. I've used ebay for over 20yrs and thought vinted was a good way to cover all bases but in the 2.5yrs I've been on it its got worse. The other day an otem I'd listed for £40, I got offered £25. When I said "seriously" they came back with £25.50. The cheapest thing they were selling way £85 ffs!

notwavingbutdrowning1 · 01/02/2026 20:32

The thing currently pissing me off on Vinted is people making offers, which I accept, then they don’t follow through and buy it. This never used to happen; now it happens about two thirds of the time. I just don’t get it - why make an offer on something you don’t want? It’s wasting their time and mine.

When I can be bothered, I send them a snotty message asking if they intend to buy it or are just messing about. Tsk.

Sheldonsheher · 01/02/2026 20:35

I have issues with Vinted.

The smell. Everything smells musty or weird and it doesn’t come out even when washed. Especially new with tags. Something in storage for ten years to me is no longer new with tags on even if you have not taken the tags off.

Scamers and Vinted doesn’t care.I saw somone on this week selling (over 800 reviews ) jewlery all apparently bought in liberty and gold plated no markings and no receipts as if! And people are falling for it Vinted does not care.

Unrealistic pricing just because the rrp is such and such even with tags on it doesn’t not retain its value it’s still second hand. 40% off rrp is not a bargain. Be realistic.

having to pay for returns for wrongly described items

customer services being bots

also lots of shoplifters on there, although that can be beneficial as they at least do have new things! lol

Pistachiocake · 01/02/2026 20:42

I used to like those sites but I agree it's too much hassle now. I kind of wish that with all the empty shops we have these days, you could just take things and put them on rails there-almost like a charity shop, except you get vouchers you can spend. As there's lots of people unemployed, some people would be happy to run these. You could get vouchers for dropping stuff off that you could then spend or give to friends to "buy" other things that had been dropped off. This would be more environmentally friendly and a lot less hassle for those of us just selling cheap stuff, who would like the chance to get other clothes, maybe because we've changed size or whatever.

If I want, say, a green dress I might send multiple offers and see what comes back. Then choose which one I think offers best value. Sorry if that offends you - I have limited funds and am trying to get the best that I can for what I have. Shrugs.

OvaHere · 01/02/2026 20:50

I'll add my current Vinted bugbear - people who buy then don't collect their items. I sold something just after xmas, it arrived at buyers post office end of Dec. About a week later I messaged to remind them they hadn't picked it up and it may get returned. She'd 'forgotten' apparently. Never picked it up and it's sat there until yesterday when finally it's being returned to me. Hopefully it's all still in tact when it returns.

Annoyingly when this happens the sale gets cancelled and buyer refunded which is fair enough I suppose but as the seller you then can't leave feedback to warn others this is someone who just doesn't bother picking stuff up if they've changed their mind (which I assume is what happened). In the meantime I've had to wait over a month for it to be returned and hope it comes back in a state that is still re-sellable.

It doesn't offend me but it does annoy me. It leads me to think I have sold something, only to find I was just being messed about. Why don't you make an offer on the green dress you like best and see if it's accepted before you offer on something else? It's good practice and good manners. What you are doing is the equivalent of booking several restaurants for the same evening and choosing one of them at the last minute.

Does anyone know how to change the postage options on eBay? Apparently I have opted for the buyer to pick up from my home address and I can’t work out how to change this.

How quickly/ often do you sell on eBay? I find that things on eBay stay listed for months (granted, higher price point) whereas on Vinted my items tend to sell within 24h.

Just feel like eBay doesn’t get a lot of Traffic and the number of listing/ availability of particular items is lower.

Having said that I’ll try it for my Jacquemus next week, the items I’m selling list on eBay for £200 and Vinted more like £30-40.

I list a few items per week on eBay. I now do exclusively Buy it Now, no auctions... just list and wait until it sells. Like Vinted, some things get traction, there are plenty of watchers, and they sell quickly, but it's true other things just don't get much interest, and might take a few weeks to sell.... but that doesn't bother me. There are various options to promote, or send offers to watchers, but this is on MY terms, not the buyers. No fending off offers, and there aren't many questions, because the listing has more categories so is more detailed. I leave it a couple of months, then if they still haven't sold I de-list and send to charity. Clothes are free to list since last year.

Maybe it is slower than Vinted? But I make about £1,000 per year selling my old clothes and there is literally zero hassle. Maybe the arseholes are all busy with Vinted? I've had the odd issue, but eBay has dealt with it.

Sheldonsheher · 01/02/2026 21:00

I think it’s ok to offer and not buy that’s part of Vinted. Just ignore the offers if it bothers you.

MummyJ36 · 01/02/2026 21:04

The new sizing is the most gigantic pain in the arse. Im
looking for size 14 clothes and have to repeatedly look at clothes in a 12 that I’m clearly not going to buy! I have no idea why they changed their sizing to something so idiotic.

Good manners? Jesus wept. There is no obligation to buy anything from anybody. We can work the site as we see fit. All of us. I never assume an offer will mean a sale because it often doesn’t. It’s not a sale till paid for.

What were the key things you and other PPs liked about Vinted?

As a new user, it feels that the market is totally saturated and I don’t see how my Uniqlo jumper would stand out in anyway amongst 60 other similar posts.

I found the filtering system, while it still took a bit of digging and checking on photos of labels, made it possible to find clothes in the brand and size I wanted fairly quickly.

The main issue was clothes using size SML didnt always translate well to 10/12/14. The change to the size filters didnt help that at all though.

"It's not a sale til paid for" ... so just pay the money I am asking for, and I will send it to you. Don't come at me with your offers. I honestly don't have the headspace.

OvaHere · 01/02/2026 21:10

I don't care about offers, even cheeky ones. Although sometimes I roll my eyes at someone offering a fiver for something listed at £30. I can just decline and move on. Sometimes I will accept low ball offers if I just want to get rid. It just depends what mood I'm in and I don't really object to people asking. Please don't send me a sob story though. I just don't care if your Mum's 2nd cousin is in hospital and your bathroom flooded. Buy it or don't. 😂

Thoseslippers · 01/02/2026 21:15

The sizing changes are annoying but id still be lost without vinted
I've got 3 kids and im able to make sure they are well clothed in a way I just would not be able to if I was buying new.
And for me it's great too.
I get some beautiful vintage pieces.
I got a pure wool hand kitted jumper recently that is so beautiful and warm. No way id ever be able to afford items of this quality going into actual shops.
Its also so much quicker to look for specific things you need.
You can think 'I need a blue shirt to wear to work that matches these trousers' and you can search for it and find something suitable so quickly. And you can't do that online even, searching through loads of websites.. takes ages and is tedious and expensive
I live vinted

Thoseslippers · 01/02/2026 21:17

Oh and I accept low ball offers if somethings been listed for ages. Why wouldn't you?! I want rid of the items. Im not gonna try and hang onto them at the risk of never selling them. Any money is fine by me.

?? The whole point is getting a bargain. Good example is Joanie - love their clothes, frequently able to find new with tags on Vinted. Except people looking for half the full price when it’s currently in the sale on their website for much less. Picked up a couple of dresses in the January sales for £18 each for example which were more than £50 full price. I would offer less in those circumstances - because I do my homework, know the brand well, and know what’s available at what price. Not paying more than I need to. Someone else will sell it me for the price I am prepared to pay - every time. It’s a no brainer. Stuff sits there because it’s priced too high. £10 in your pocket today is surely better than never selling? I genuinely don’t understand your viewpoint.

That's true. I'll put offers on multiple items that are similar to see who accepts first and with the best deal.
Im not paying extra to people to be "polite" that's so laughable.
I do not view accepting offers on my items as a done deal of a sale either.

However getting someone to reserve something then not buying it at the end IS rude. As that does waste everyone's time.

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 01/02/2026 21:20

This size thing could be a ploy to sell more and make more profit.

I wouldn't put anything passes businesses these days..The have become amazingly greedy.
