Have you ever wondered how many baby bels you have ever bought?

My DC are currently 14 and 18. Both have been obsessed with baby bels since weaning. The 18 yo saw me cutting one up for the 14yo (just me or do we all do that? And yes I know he's old enough not to need them cutting up but that's another issue, another post) and I asked her.... how many do you think I have bought over the last 18 years. She stared at me and said " well you me and DS eat them so...." and when I told her that I NEVER eat a baby bel she looked at me as though I had two heads.

They are one of the things I get a cold sweat about if I open the fridge and see I have run out.

So how many? Thousands probably. I'd love to know. I should have bought shares. Is it just me? Am I entitled to some free ones by now?

Does your 14yo like you cutting up the Babybel or would they prefer to peel it themselves?

If you like cheese then you probably won’t like babybel… they don’t bear much resemblance to actual cheese!

They are edam cheese.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/01/2026 20:27

Why would you cut up a baby bell? That takes all the fun out of it.

Lots, DH eats them a lot, I have noticed they are rarely on offer now. We bought a big one at Christmas which was very nice

When a toddler my daughter liked them cut up into slices and laid out neatly on a plate to eat one by one.
Many years later (she's 17 now) she loves to have what she calls a "platter" which is essentially various salami and sliced cheese displayed beautifully on a plate.
So she hasn't changed much 😂

I drummed into my niece that Babybel isn't real cheese so she didn't expect soft Auntie to panda to her every whim.

MissingSockDetective · 27/01/2026 20:33

Not Babybels, but I reckon I've been keeping Innocent smoothies in business for several years now.

What is it then if it isn't cheese?

Pierpointer · 27/01/2026 20:35

I love Babybels but in recent years they have left a strange after taste and give me bad breath 😕

Needmorelego · 27/01/2026 20:37

For those saying it's "not cheese"...here is what their website says.

MarkSkiddie · 27/01/2026 20:38

No because I have never bought one, it’s just not a decent cheese, sorry.

I think 2 packs. Kids didnt like them.

The cathedral city bites though..loads and loads

Please don’t buy any cathedral city product. There are plenty of other more ethical suppliers

They taste like very vaguely cheese flavoured rubber 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s actual cheese though.

SPQRomanus · 27/01/2026 20:42

Never bought a single one, never gave them to my children either, used to put a lump of cheese in their lunch boxes instead. But how many tons of extra mature cheddar have I bought, well that's another matter...

SoPunkontheInternet · 27/01/2026 20:45

@Mysteise they do! Morrisons had them last month. Possibly an Xmas thing though…

Butteredtoast55 · 27/01/2026 20:45

My children loved Baby Bel but I think only ate them in the house once they left primary school! I remember the older one eating at least one a day until he abruptly stopped. So let's estimate just under 12,000 between them!

How do you cut up a babybel?

I'd hope, in wedges. I bet that's where cartoon wedges of cheese for mice came from!

I've never eaten a babybel but buy a pack a few times a year as a treat for DH & DC and they'd demolish the lots within a few hours.

I can't say I've ever wondered

I've never cut them up either 😆

rockingroller · 27/01/2026 20:47

Never bought a baby bell, never cut one up. I'm wild, me.

Thanks.
Hopefully if they've been caught they will have been stopped from doing that.

ladygindiva · 27/01/2026 20:48

Yup probably thousands ... I've never cut one up though🤣but I do smash Smarties, and cut olives ( dd2 has loved them forever 🤣) and mini eggs get thrown in the bin , the death traps they are

MarkSkiddie · 27/01/2026 20:49

@Needmorelego in an ideal world yes, I really hope so but the best thing we can all do is boycott CC I think
