Have you ever wondered how many baby bels you have ever bought?

My DC are currently 14 and 18. Both have been obsessed with baby bels since weaning. The 18 yo saw me cutting one up for the 14yo (just me or do we all do that? And yes I know he's old enough not to need them cutting up but that's another issue, another post) and I asked her.... how many do you think I have bought over the last 18 years. She stared at me and said " well you me and DS eat them so...." and when I told her that I NEVER eat a baby bel she looked at me as though I had two heads.

They are one of the things I get a cold sweat about if I open the fridge and see I have run out.

So how many? Thousands probably. I'd love to know. I should have bought shares. Is it just me? Am I entitled to some free ones by now?

I chose to boycott N*stle. Due to my ethics and beliefs. I do not tell random strangers on the Internet who they ought to boucott or what ethics they should have.

I appreciated the information from the pp actually

DS loved them so goodness knows how many I bought, it took years before I stopped finding little pads of red wax all over the floor.

I am definitely pro-cheese but I don't think I ever ate one, I did succumb to the odd late night Cheese String though...

It's the wax that stops me buying more. DC3 "makes" things with the wax (and gets it permanently stuck on tables/cushions/walls/any other surface he can).

Not BabyBels but according to the Tesco app we bought 114 8-packs of Cheesestrings in 2025 😬

I must have bought thousands and I don't even have kids. I get the light version to plug my incessant cheese cravings.

Awww That's sweet.
In my case, none as I must admit I thought they were ultra processed trash.

Eh? It’s just cheese!

But you just have, stealthily

Good job for working that out. You are so clever.

EdinaTheConfessor · 27/01/2026 21:42

Top tip for an elite snack - take a pack of hula hoops (salt and vinegar being my preference) and push a hoop through your babybel so that the hula hoops is filled with cheese. Eat. Repeat until you have finished the bag of hula hoops (you’ll need about 3 babybels) You are welcome.

Blanketpolicy · 27/01/2026 21:45

Bought one net of them when ds was little, neither of us liked them, they are very bland and rubbery. We both preferred a chunk of, or grated cathedral mature for texture and flavour.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/01/2026 21:48

I have never wondered this…. But I am now, lol. Defo eaten a lot. I have always been jealous of Europe where you can get goats cheese ones that I have never found here!

I saw them in Tesco once, and never again. You can get purple ones too - not sure what they are though.

Okiedokie123 · 27/01/2026 21:52

Apologies op but I cant get past the notion that you a) open your kids baby bels (do you open their crisp packets too? and b) cut them up. Are they not able to bit into them themselves? Do you cut up their dinners as well?

They are teens not 2. Im now wondering if you infantilise them in other areas of their lives too or just when eating. Maybe you lay out their outfits before they go to bed? Help them clean their teeth? Brush their hair?
As for the question....... not all that many tbh, maybe a couple of bags of 10 per year. Tortillas and crackers though = hundreds. Which I always put down to the fact that I snacked on those a lot whilst pregnant (dry, helped reduce nausea)

justtheotheronemrswembley · 27/01/2026 22:02

No, I've never wondered about that. Mind you, dc didn't like cheese. I might have bought them a couple of times for birthday parties when other kids would eat them, but that's it.

Belladog1 · 27/01/2026 19:58

That's easy. A big fat zero.

Yeah, this 🤢.

Now if the question was how many packets of Malteasers, that would be a verrryyyyy different answer.

Me too - I am aware of the issues in dairy farming, but I won't use my money to support firms which allow additional cruelty.

HelenHywater · 27/01/2026 22:05

Hardly any, my kids didn't like them and I found it easier to give them a lump of tastier cheese.

I also find it strange that your teens eat them AND you peel them for them.

CraftyNavySeal · 27/01/2026 20:02

At Christmas you could buy full size Babybels and it annoyed me that they weren’t just called Bels. The ones you normally get are Mini Babybels. How big would a Bel actually be 🤔

I’m so relieved that it’s not just me that thinks about things like this!

I’ve never bought them. I do like cheese though. How much are they?

They are expensive so we only have them when we have a picnic.

I had to Google. Couldn't find goats cheese but found this handy guide!

Have you ever wondered how many baby bels you have ever bought?
purplecorkheart · 27/01/2026 22:10

Zero. I shop only for myself and I am not a fan of cheese unless it melted or mozzarella. I have seen a few recipes for one that use them and am tempted but do not want to waste them if I dislike them.

NewGoldFox · 27/01/2026 22:11

Mysteise · 27/01/2026 20:04

Quite a lot! But the very best was a giant one when I want to Nice with my dh. Why oh why don’t they sell the massive ones here and only in France! We ate big chunks out of it in our hotel room.

You can buy a wedge of Edam.

DeanStockwell · 27/01/2026 22:19

GalaxyJam · 27/01/2026 20:08

If you like cheese then you probably won’t like babybel… they don’t bear much resemblance to actual cheese!

I love alsorts of cheese and that's why I don't buy them or kraft singles or cheese strings. * *they are all a abomination !

Do you save the wax @mismomary apparently it can be made into candles or firelighters for bbqs .

TeenYearsAreBrutal · 27/01/2026 22:24

NotThatSerious · 27/01/2026 19:59

Millions. I’m sure. We buy them from Costco so you get a bejillion in a pack anyway. Dc went through the obsession too although they have since weaned themselves off them so no Babybel rehab needed

Ooh - how much is a big bag at Costco please?!

Zebralele · 27/01/2026 22:46

Shocked at how many people didn't know babybel is real cheese! Yes it's a mild flavoured semi-hard cheese, but so is Edam amongst others and nobody claims that isn't cheese. Visit a cheese counter one day people!

BadBones60 · 27/01/2026 23:05

Booths have the mixed bags. Got some Stranger Things ones this month in Farmfoods (79p for 6!) - 'fiery hot' and wax is green. Only started eating a few years ago after osteoporosis diagnosis as high calcium but lowish calories. Find them very useful to carry around.
