A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

You lot 😊. Loving the comments.

Busy day just catching up, so all I know is that McSweeney has resigned.

But everything in this Labour world seems to move slowly but quickly and horribly at the same time. Slowly in the sense that I still feel like they've been in power for 100 years. Have they done something terrible to time? Are they making it go slower?

I'm concerned to hear that he wants to announce something about a big change. Suggests to me that he's going to throw out something awful in order to distract from this - when I say awful, I mean the usual shit that they hand out, sometimes not even realising it's shit? I mean, actually, we are at a level of crazy that I can't even try to debunk.

That's the left. Sigh.

EmeraldRoulette · 08/02/2026 23:11

Also, I can't believe anyone actually wants the job

But again, my perception is that things are so bad it's like having a sort of ghost government. You want them in place but actually, I don't really know why

So whoever takes over, they have to be confident that they can cope with the by elections and then ride it out till the next election

How does anyone think they can do this? Are they so out of touch with their "never had a real job" backgrounds that they don't realise what they're stepping into?

It feels like a long time to me because they’ve rushed in and announced and then unannounced so many bad policies. For a party that supposedly believed that the government at heart needed more competence it’s the very thing they didn’t deliver…

DiySteve · 09/02/2026 08:26

On a brighter note (not just the longer days), the longer Starmer is left in play, the more damage he can do. The original inside man.

Meanwhile, some lefties within HMRC are doubtless rubber stamping Rayner’s ‘we consider the matter closed’, so that she can come off the bench.

Fun times!

boyleslaw · 09/02/2026 08:49

The Labour Party stategy to the media on MacSweeny’s departure seems to be to send out female Labour MPs (I counted 3 on BBC TV and radio between 3pm and 11pm plus other one on breakfast radio this morning ) to parrot the line that the Labour Party is doing all it can to prevent “violence against women and girls”. Let’s not talk about what has just happened in the Labour Party but keep mentioning that Labour is against “ violence against women and girls “ Of course it is ! So is everyone.

Well, you know, they tried to kill off the grooming gand inquiry, failed to get it off the ground, they have MPs trying to unravel the Supreme court ruling on sex, they appointed of the bff to a trafficking paedophile to the highest diplomatic office with a shrug, they hounded Duffield out of the party allowing Russel Moyle to heckle her in the commons for knowing what a woman is, they have never had a female leader. Labour have a problem with women, shuffling McSweeney to the sidelines won't change that.

DancingFerret · 09/02/2026 09:02

Rayner: "There is absolutely no reason to believe that she is a competent politican."

CruCru · 09/02/2026 09:39

Yep! They were elected with a really strong majority and it’s been chaos.

DiySteve · 09/02/2026 09:42

Accidental duplicate.

DiySteve · 09/02/2026 09:43

So that this tweet is committed to posterity (Rayner deleted it, and others).

This was referenced on another thread.

Keir Starmer in charge of the CPS: ‘When they made mistakes, I carried the can. I never turn on my staff and you should never turn on your staff… I will carry the can for mistakes of any organisation I lead.’

Obviously as true as I will tread lightly on your lives and the rest of what he says.

Has she paid the £40k she admitted to underpaying yet?

I mean it's not a very high bar - to actually pay outstanding tax before aspiring to become PM - but there have to be at least some minimal standards, even for Labour.

TheNuthatch · 09/02/2026 09:55

Good morning. 😁

I missed all the fun yesterday. Welcome to the new names on the thread. 👋

The front pages are horrendous for Starmer this morning. Colour me surprised that he is clinging on, trying to save his own skin. He is apparently due to address the Labour women's caucus this evening. I hope they tear strips off him. Those of us who have been saying for a while that Starmer hates women have been proved right.

The Labour manifesto mentioned stopping the chaos 15 times. 😳

Apparently he's holding up with Darren pocket money Jones trying to write something that will make him palatable to the public.

EmeraldRoulette · 09/02/2026 09:58

Re - Angela Rayner and the tax thing

I heard that she sorted it a couple of weeks ago, which makes sense. Hopefully that just means "paid the tax that she owed". It might mean that HMRC found a reason for her to wiggle out of it I don't know.

where can we find an emergency grown-up? I don't even care what party they're from.

I shudder to think what's being neglected while all this is going on.

Pathetic slimy toad.
As a pp said, they are sending women out to defend him. Fucker.

I think Kemi fits the bill for 'emergency grown up'.
If only she could.

Apparently Bear Grylls was on the shortlist for US Ambassador. 🤣 Maybe he could be persuaded to act as a caretaker PM? Although he'd have to promise us that he wouldn't make us do p.e.

Oh, I thought the question was who would fill in for Labour? Definitely Kemi over Bear Grylls 🤣

Not sure tbh but presumably she will be charged interest on top of the principal…

Interestingly, no other nation appointed their US Ambassador with such a chequered history as Starmer did with Mandelson.

Starmer rolled the dice - let’s be honest.
