Another person murdered by ICE

I’m in tears and shock at the brutality happening in broad daylight in the US. I’m a US citizen, emigrated to the UK for family reasons 12 years ago (now dual citizen), and I am just in disbelief at what’s happening. I was sick when I learned of Trump’s first election and gravely disappointed by the second one. But the sheer brutality of what’s happening in MN right now has really thrown me. I have friends and family there, in Chicago (where ICE raids were occurring in the autumn), in NY, and in California. I’m hearing that even worse things are happening in the Deep South but fewer observers and press to report on it. Posting here because I feel so lost.

She was. An autopsy showed the killing shot went through the side of her head. The ICE agent was stood to the side of her and was in no personal danger.

Even if you were in danger from someone driving towards you - how does it make sense to shoot them, rather than get out the way? Doesn't it make you and others more likely to get run over?

And it did in fact result in the car speeding off, out of control. He created the danger.

The footage from the lady in pink is shocking. Then there’s more footage, his jacket fastened, phone in hand, his other hand protecting himself from pepper spray. Zero sign of any gun (could be beneath his jacket, I suppose) but he’s 1) not approaching agents; they approach him and the woman. 2) he’s not brandishing any gun.
It’s also bizarre how the agent in a paler jacket arrives a little later, seems to pick something up from the melee and then rushes away with a gun in his right hand. Then shots are fired. AFTER we see the agent dash away. How they can possibly bare face lie that he was approaching the agents brandishing a gun is beyond belief. He was an ICU nurse working with veterans apparently. How can they possibly spin this one?

From Bellingcat

https://bsky.app/profile/bellingcat.com/post/3md7bamukjk2x

A DHS statement claimed “an individual approached US Border Patrol officers” with “a handgun” in the Alex Pretti shooting incident. A Bellingcat analysis of the footage appears to show that a gun was taken away from where Pretti was situated by an agent just before the first shot was fired.

It's a good clear video. They approached him. He was holding his phone up recording them. He backs up as they approach him. When other protesters fall over / one violently pushed over by ICE he helps them. He gets dragged away from a woman he is helping and is pepper sprayed. That's when they all jump on him and one office appears to pistol whip him (it's not clear whether it's a gun, but he is hit multiple times) to the head, while he's face down with multiple officers restraining him. Some videos do appear to show an agent removing the man's holstered gun (which is apparently legal and licensed) before the agents shoot him multiple times. Regardless he is being violently restrained by many agents and was no risk.

One report says that the last thing he said to the woman he was helping up was to ask if she was ok - before they dragged him off her and murdered him.

It’s beyond words.
And how some ppl can condone this on this thread is beyond belief.

They're all over the ICE / Trump US threads. It's a relief that there are so many of us refuting them. On one thread there were a couple of them and not many other people and it felt like rolling in dung trying to respond.

Yep. I believe what Renee Good actually said was ‘I’m not mad at you dude.’ before he shot and killed her. Then he called her a ‘fucking bitch.’

America is going to be responsible for a lot of other deaths, though, because in the middle of all of this, they’ve left the World Health Organization - the WHO has posted a very calm and factual response to the situation on social media while Trump is still ranting and raving on the White House account.

It’s terrifying for all of us, because participation in the WHO is what protects us from diseases like Ebola. The spread of Ebola has always been managed by expert, swift responses and nations working together. Now the US is just one great big renegade in the middle of it. Jesus Christ, I’m not religious, but god help us all.

Not to mention the shuttering of USAID, if we're counting unnecessary deaths.

Has anyone else noticed that posters who use LOL and TBH on threads like this are almost always Trump defenders and, well, to be polite about it, not very smart?

Yes. Usually just before they come out with their most ridiculous responses. Also see: ‘crazed leftists’ for one of their other favourite cult phrases.

She wasn't a threat, she was unarmed. She was murdered by ICE. And now they've killed another. They're nothing more than state authorised thugs.

We're bringing dniece home. The US is no longer a fit place to study, it's descending into a rogue state. 🙁

And you think the UK is better? A woman was gang raped recently, very near to where I live in the UK. She was pulled off the street.

Yes, likely countless already, the combination of the two things is just…

On what they’re (the US) doing to reduce vaccinations, it’s so brazen I’ve actually wondered if they actively want diseases like measles and polio to come back? I know it sounds crazy but I just can’t work out why they’d do it, otherwise.

That’s horrific but entirely unrelated. But it does sound like something that is worth starting a separate thread about.

Apparently they already have far more incidents of measles than they used to.

It is of course related.

My point is , I hear all these people in England saying how unsafe the USA is.

I think it's so hypocritical, when there are huge amounts of crime in the UK.

The last time that Trump was in power, people tried to talk me out of even going for a two week holiday to the US as it was so 'unsafe'. I ignored them, went and had a great time.

Every country has violence and murder, but America now has a president who is giving the murderers immunity and telling them to ramp up the violence.

Big difference.

You think Trump is the only one that has done this? This same scenario has happened many times in different countries.

What about when the British government sent the British army to Northern Ireland? The British army murdered lots of innocent civilians in Northern Ireland.

Some of the civilians murdered were people that were protesting against the British army., similiar to how civilians are protesting against ICE now and getting murdered

That wasn't long ago

Local people are talking about it. People know her. It has also been reported in the press.

Why do you ask?

The violent crime figures in the US genuinely are significantly higher than in the UK. Even stabbings, which people seem to feel are a uniquely London phenomenon, are rare compared with most of the US.

You are probably pretty safe in the tourist areas, but then you are pretty safe visiting the Tate Modern and Alton Towers too.

Thingylingy · 25/01/2026 02:33

BlackCrowKing · 24/01/2026 19:22

Not sure what you consider murder? I’d argue there was a degree of premeditation given the amount of times he shot her (three, FYI. In the face.)

And called her a ‘fucking bitch’ after the last shot had blown her head off. People are seriously warped if they think that’s in any way acceptable

Im not just talking about physical (non sexual )violence though. Im talking about rape.

I have heard about way too many women who have been raped in the UK. I would definitely not say that the UK is a very safe place for women.

My local community in the UK is shaken up over a recent gang rape. The woman was just pulled off a street at night and gang raped.

Do you not watch the news? Are you not seeing what is happening in the US over the last few weeks? I think you’re a little bit behind the times.
