A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Myrtle, yes, you must carry your license when driving. It is a bit ridiculous with technology now and police can view your record. But, I got my replacement today and paid the fine, which was reduced by $25 for prompt payment. I guess that's the upside. It does pee me off as I could have been given a warning or an order to produce it within a certain time frame as obviously I'm not a chronic offender, no history of infractions or outstanding monies owed. So, 🙄.

Do you have a selection of lactose free milk products? If yes, are you okay with them?
Years ago, I read some regular products are more easily tolerable: cheddar, yoghurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, goat's and sheep's milk. So, I began experimenting very slowly starting with a teaspoon of regular yoghurt every other day and as I saw I wasn't reacting I increased the amount and started adding tastes of the other products. I still can tolerate regular cheeses well, though. Now, it is much easier to have dairy as lactose-free dairy (cow's) is pretty much available everywhere.

It has become quite sunny again and I'm just going to get the kids ready to go out. Although, Havoc is having a rough day with lots of tantrumming so far. 🤷‍♀️

I have Fage yoghurt every day without incident and sour cream is fine because the lactose has gone. We have a lactose-free cheese which DH puts on a faux cottage pie making the mash with cauliflower not potato. It's the only cheese I eat and it tastes like processed cheese.

I also use a lactose free single cream which I whisk to make stiffer for trifle, and a milk-free custard for the same thing. But we only have that at Christmas.

The dinner was fine and a lovely celebration, but the food wasn't great. Even DH said so and he goes there nearly every month with DSD on a dad and daughter evening.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/03/2026 17:18

Myrtle, shame about dinner! I hate when a paid meal out is disappointing. 😔
I buy lactose-free butter (about $6lb), cream cheese (about $5 1/2lb) and milk (about $6 2L) regularly. I'm fine with cottage cheese, yoghurt and sour cream, too, now. Part of my weekly shop is buying a tray of mixed lactose free cheese (about $14 800g), so none of it is cheap and the cheese doesn't melt as nicely, but at least it's all real dairy.

I had the kids out late last night at the playground from about 7pm to almost 9pm. They were having a great time and played with another kid and all were having fun. We went for bagels and a cookie after that and ate a bagel and cookie in the car then a bit more at home before baths and bed.
We've just finished a nice Sunday morning breakfast of bagels with cream cheese and smoke salmon and a fruit playter of fresh figs, grapes and Mandarin oranges. I've had two iced lattes. I've got something soecial planned for the kids, so we need to get ready and leave shortly.

Pic is a bird's nest at the playground last night. The light was so lovely as it was from the sunset.

Sorry your dinner out was disappointing, Myrtle.

What bad luck with the ticket, havoc.

Your garden looks like a real haven, MrsP.

Congratulations on the win, Sprouts.

I spent a lot of the weekend watching college basketball. There is a big national tournament on, called March Madness. The team I'm supporting has made it to the round of sixteen.

Currently watching a Miss Marple mystery on Britbox and folding laundry.

mathanxiety · 23/03/2026 02:39

Excellent sleuthing, havoc!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/03/2026 15:34

Just up having coffee, turned on tv and watching awful news about AC plane having crashed at Laguardia killing both pilots. 😧

I've now read the first 6 pages of the original thread. Foot shape is popular. I've come across a few posts from our dear Prok so far. 🥹

I had the dc up on Burnaby Mountain today for s good hike totalling just over 3.5km. Not bad for little legs! 🩷

They never show my foot type. My second toe is shorter than my middle toe, like thr index finger is shorter than the middle finger. I thought this was normal for years but apparently it's possibly linked to the connective tissue disorder of unknown origin that I have. I've been tested for all 17 forms of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, but it's not that.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/03/2026 16:53

Myrtle, I haven't found any literature about that possibility. It sounds interesting, but frustrating to not know. How have you been doing with your ankle and healing?

It's raining here again. We had three days without it. Did anyone else see the news about the awful flooding in Hawaii?

I have a tendon issue that could be due to a tear or a side-effect of the antibiotics. I'm waiting for an MRI to check as the ultrasound was inconclusive.

I'm being fitted for new orthotics and new compression garments. I'm not sure if I mentioned that my lymphatic system didn't form properly when I was in utero. I have a genetic error which means I have lymphoedema. I also only have one kidney, caused by the same genetic error, so I'm being referred to a renal specialist.

It has also created other issues so I'm seeing an ENT specialist in April. So a lot on.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/03/2026 17:55

I've now read 5 more pages of the Original Thread. i saw the first posts from @HelenaJustina and Deathraystare.

I'm liking posts as I go. This is keeping me occupied while I sit with the dc while they watch school videos. We've done Italian, French, Alpha Blocks and Number Bocks, Anatomy, Weather, Coding and watched Imagine Dragons Thunder and danced. This is keeping them busy while it's still raining. The Kidneys Song vid just came on.

I've now read another page on the Original Thread and saw Math's first posts. I wonder what happened to ReallySpicyCurry?

I’m terribly lacking in the green finger department. This is all my son’s hard work!
I’ll have to see if kiwis are in the shops, I’ve not been in a while and it’s all very seasonal here :) thank you for the idea 💡

Am having the laziest rainy day here. We're now watching another Sesame Street and eating lunch. I made poached eggs on toasted ww seeded sourdough with smoked salmon, roasted garlic potatoes and asparagus. Pic is Baby's bowl. Mine have perfectly runny yolks. 🥳🤗😋

I've now finished reading the entire Original Thread and came across @sueelleker and @sproutsandparsnips first posts.

Yes, your cousin was going to visit but their tent blew away; You made sauce for lasagne. It's the last page.
I think MN must've been discovered by a lot of people during the pandemic. I think it was around fall/2022 for me. 😊💛

I just made 6 weeks of staff cpd and scheduled it to send. Very satisfying.

Dull news here is I have yet another burst tyre due to a pot hole. That is my sixth in this car (4 years old). Sometimes drive other cars and none in them or my previous car so I am beginning to wonder what is going on.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/03/2026 01:14

Sorry about the tyre saga Dandy.
Welcome Violet.

I've just put a dead easy sheet pan meal on: salmon filet and prawns straight from the freezer with pesto; bell pepper and asparagus tossed in evoo and season with garlic and salt; have corn on the cob boiling on the stove; and a pot of mixed brown and wild rice cooking. Planning on a Costco run after dinner.

That's a lovely looking dinner, havoc.

DD and I are trying to make sourdough starter. So far, we have fed it for three days and it's starting to grow bubbles. The hope is that we'll be able to make our very own sourdough bread. DD got a bread making kit recently with a proving basket, blade, dough stirring thingamajig, etc, and she's itching to use it.

mathanxiety · 25/03/2026 01:48

Gosh, those posts really are a snapshot!

Wishing you well in your continued health journey, myrtle. I hope the doctors will be able to come up with answers and a comprehensive plan.

Hope your day of spreadsheets and dental work went as well as it could, FartyAnimal.
