A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Math, please post about your sourdough starter as you go! I missed the boat during the craze when the pandemic happened. Everyone was posting about making it then. It seemed too complicated to me. 😵‍💫
Sourdough is my favourite bread, though. I've been buying a seeded whole wheat sourdough at Costco which is very good, especially warm with butter. 😋
I made it to Costco before closing. Needed an anti-fungal cream the pediatrician advised as Baby seemed to have a fungal infection on the foot and bought both dc new swim suits as lessons start next month as well as a few groceries.

I wonder if ReallySpicyCurry is still around?
Is anyone in contact with @deathraystare ?
I fear she's not well. 😔

You teally see to have a lot of health issues to dealbwith Myrtle. 💐
Have you tried compression leg cuffs? They really helped me during pregnancy.

I've now read another page on the Original Thread and saw Math's first posts. I wonder what happened to ReallySpicyCurry?

I currently wear compression socks with separate cuffs so I am supported from toe to knee at 22-32mmHg which is the most common sizing. However, my lymphoedema specialist thinks I need to go to the next level of compression because these are too easy to get on. I will be measured for them in the next few weeks. They strap blood pressure cuffs to the legs to see what I need.

The renal specialist will probably just monitor my kidney function every year but may give advice if I need to have further surgery.

The lymphoedema and connective tissue disorders cannot be cured, only managed. Mostly it is difficult to find shoes that fit my swollen feet properly, and I need to wear compression garments every day, especially in summer when it is more humid and my feet swell. So I will have to wear them at the beach on holiday with shoes rather than wear pretty sandals on bare feet 😢

It will mean my legs won't look like I have cankles so much, but I also wear trousers to hide the compression socks so no one will see ...

Umanresources · 25/03/2026 14:08

@MyrtleLion I feel for you so much. I think lymphoedema is what I am being treated for. I’m waiting for an appointment with the vascular clinic but it’s a 2 years wait! The district nurses are hoping they can hurry it up a bit. I tried all sorts of compression socks and sleeves, plus I bought a motionciser, hoping something would help, but they just went from bad to worse. More dressings have been delivered today, but the nurses are just coming once a week now on Fridays. I know what you mean about cankles, I feel as though mine are about to burst! I’ve been wearing long dresses to hide my legs and I’ve only got one pair of sandals that I can wear, apart from slippers and socks. I’ve not been out since January, but perhaps later this week! 🤞

My lovely SinL is coming for a few days. I’ll have to think of some easy, but special meals. We had haggis last night, which was very tasty and not traditionally served with baked potato and broccoli. I had to confess that I’d ordered the haggis a while ago, ready to serve on St Patrick’s day. I had got my Irish saint mixed up with Burn’s Night, which I’d missed in January! Ah well.

I think lipedema and lymphoedema are easily mixed up, I am waiting on blood tests to work out what is going on with me. The thing that is helping at the moment is the hydrotherapy pool at my local gym. Watching the ladies going past for aqua aerobics I suspect that is also something people try.

I went for a "cheaper one" to give it a try. It works great. Have had it about 3 years. My mum uses it, too, as has significant lower leg and foot edema. AMA. 😊

I'm also on team compression socks. I've needed them for my left leg, which is still a bit swollen since they harvested a vein from there for my bypass surgery. It's been better recently, so I don't wear them every day, and only on the right leg.

I mentioned previously that DD and SiL went to Georgia last week to look at houses. They put an offer on one, and it's been accepted, which is probably too exciting for this thread. It's lovely, fairly new (built in 1992), and seems to be in very good shape, other than the back garden. There's a lot of scrub and brush, and some trees that came down in a storm last year. We've offered to pay for a landscaping contractor to clear it out and put in flower beds as a housewarming present.

DH is going to do some volunteer work for the nonprofit organization that manages the Walkway Over the Hudson that I posted some pictures from a while back. It's just five staff, and they are changing to a new IT service provider. This is right up DH's alley, so he's going to review the contract and help them negotiate the best possible deal, then work with the company to get them onboarded.

I'm still doing cardiac rehab, and they keep increasing the intensity of my workouts. If I have a heart attack, at least I'll already be in hospital. :)

mathanxiety · 26/03/2026 00:50

That really is very exciting for your DD and her husband, MissC. Your DH's volunteering plan sounds really interesting.
Do they hook you up to a monitor for your cardiac rehab appointments?

MissConductUS · 26/03/2026 19:02

Math, yes, I have three electrodes pasted to my chest and abdomen while doing the rehab workout, and wear a transmitter around my neck. A staff member monitors us (usually four pts) on a computer. They also have an emergency cart in the room with a defibrillator and various emergency meds for quick administration. I try not to think about it. 😁

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/03/2026 16:59

Very little sleep last might. Ugh.
Decided I needed this to get going. 🥱

I’ve just had a lovely bowl of homemade spaghetti bolognaise and large glass of red wine. Cheers to the end of term for one of my dc.

Umanresources · 27/03/2026 23:07

We had homemade chilli tonight with whole grain basmati and wild rice. I had a small glass of wine too. Roast chicken tomorrow and my lovely SinL is going to help me sort out clothes in the bedroom! Exciting times.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/03/2026 00:59

Just had a lovely day with dc. Stopped for donuts to drop off to mechanic who is retiring, with an extra donut for each dc; then lunch of chicken teriyaki with ramen and Cali rolls; a trip to this indoor climbing/sliding thing (see pics); and finally a stop at Old Navy where I scored 4 t-shirts and 3 pairs of jeans/leggings for Baby at a cost of only $43. 🤗

I've been to places like that with DCs, havoc - they had a ball.

MissC I'm glad they're keeping an eye on you.

The sourdough starter is bubbling nicely, and may be ready to use for bread making this weekend. Feeding it is a bit of a chore though.

Our weather is very up and down right now - t-shirts one day and winter coats the next, and sometimes an abrupt change between the morning and afternoon. Daffodils have started to bloom and the grass has greened up again. Some trees have cautiously committed to budding.

DandyDandylion · 28/03/2026 08:51

Were you able to let your dc go up and down that on their own Havoc? They were the bane of my life when DS was 2 and wanted me to go round with him, but dd was a tiny baby. She was carried up lots of soft play nets and down massive slides on my knees.

DandyDandylion · 28/03/2026 08:52

Forgot my dull news, dd and I are off to litter pick with the girl guides this morning.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/03/2026 15:12

Dandy, Baby could pretty much go up the stairs without help. It was a lot of effort crawling up them though! I was quite surprised when Baby hopped into the giant slide alone! It was Baby's first time for that, Havoc did it too, again, first time without Mummy. 🥹

DD is playing pokopia for a further 15 mins before we both go help DH with his 4 hr lamb curry.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/03/2026 21:06

Math, waiting for your sourdough report re first loaf. 😁 Keeping the starter going can be a chore. Imagine this:

Havoc is having a bright blue lollipop and I'm having nuts, fruit and whole grains.

Baby is napping. 😇

Spent this afternoon watching the dress rehearsal for The Passion performed on Good Friday.
Kind of odd watching inside in a far smaller area than the outside venue, but looking really good.

Made three batches of soup today; leek and potato, courgette, broccoli and garlic, and have a carrot sweet potato and pepper one cooking now. Still need to make cookies.
