@MewithME I'm gutted about your food order! Even though my appetite seems to have gone MIA this last week or two, generally a few foodie treats is such a highlight to look forward to. Hope you can get your C&C sorted without too many rats.

Reassuring (although, as always, wishing that NONE of us had any of this to contend with) to see others noticing symptoms and challenges and not knowing what's causing them. That's one of my main issues I think - half a diagnosis, no real explanation of some of my worst symptoms, plus throw peri-menopause into the mix so everything comes with the additional question of whether it's a hormonal thing. I said to my DH, if I just knew what would make me feel better, I'd do it, whatever it was. But I just don't know. And maybe there just isn't anything.

Oioiqueen · 17/01/2026 09:48

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia welcome! And be said what? I feel like it's one of those moments where you need a boxing glove that you wind back and then it springs out and punches people on the nose.

TodayIsatrickyone · 17/01/2026 09:50

Morning all, just caught up on posts so a warm welcome to anyone new, though sorry you're all battling chronic conditions that lead you here.

@MewithME hope emotions are more settled today and you can rest and be kind to yourself.

I had a busy day yesterday, DH drove me over to mums and dropped us both at a nearby garden centre so we could sit in the cafe for a change. We had lovely coffee and cake, cheered both of us up no end and distracted mum a bit from her problems. I was out just over 2 hours and felt mostly okay and came home thinking we should do this more often but then in true ME form PEM kicked in last night and still feeling pretty rough this morning so just staying in bed with a cuppa, taken painkillers and hoping a quiet day will help symptoms settle.

Hope you can all have manageable days, a restful weekend and find a little spark of joy somewhere today.

Oioiqueen · 17/01/2026 09:52

No major plans today as per usual. Got a sore arm where I let the HCA who was training to take blood have a practice yesterday. Must have seen what my bloods are for and thought "she has several needles a week in various places, she won't pass out on us". I'm all for training but this was a senior nurse teaching a HCA. There wasn't a phlebotomist in sight which was unusual in itself for outpatients. Maybe I'm becoming one of these grumpy old hospital regulars who just don't want to be touched haha.

MewithME · 17/01/2026 10:06

Morning lovely lot . I just woke for the second time. Waitrose have processed my refund but might take a week to come back apparently! Good grief.

I am feeling calmer but not right at all. Maybe it is just PEM. Wednesday was too much, I know that so could be after effects. I've got twitches and buzzing and bad tinnitus this morning. Barely awake to notice anything else.

Exh is off on his annual winter sun holiday with his latest girlfriend leaving me to do everything for our son for the next 10 days after tomorrow. Finding it hard not to be resentful. But doesn't help thinking that way. I will give my head a wobble.

So I will have a coffee and an Epsom salt bath. Try and tidy if there's time before doing my click and collect...then telly on the sofa this afternoon. There's a bunch of films I want to see but I've not been into films lately which is weird for me. Somehow feel more company from TV shows with loads of episodes.

Hijack S2 is out so Idris might cheer me up a bit.

Still feeling wobbly really. I guess it will pass.

Morning. hope everyone is okay. @MewithME thinking of you. Thanks

I have just taken the Dcs to their swimming lessons (I have to go in with DS1 as his is a class for SEN kids and they need a parent). I'm not sure what happened (if anything) but I now have the most painful ankle and ball of foot.

I am trying to clear our terrace of broken pots etc as i have a waste team coming in at some point. That exhausts me so hope to persuade a child to assist.

Hope everyone has a good day. Thanks

TodayIsatrickyone · 17/01/2026 10:11

@MewithME wobbly days are allowed and you're right it will pass, one small step at a time. Idris sounds like an excellent plan ๐Ÿ˜Š

TodayIsatrickyone · 17/01/2026 10:15

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia sounds like a do a bit, stop for a bit approach is needed with your terrace especially with a painful ankle. Bizarrely I also have had a painful and a tad swollen ankle this week and have no idea what I did to it! Very odd!

A real life Idris would be nice. I don't particularly need someone's capable of dealing with terrorists... just someone who could put the Xmas decorations back in the loft. Sigh.

My aspirations in life are low these days!

Greetings all!

Woke up with sciatica and spent some time searching for what is the most comfortable seating position. Google tells me it's feet flat on floor, good lumbar support. Well that's me out - our sofa is much too high for me so I always sit sideways or with feet on a padded footstool. I need a positive tsunami of cushions to get comfortable. Temporarily I have tried putting a 4" thick attache case on the floor to rest my feet on, and it is so much better!

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/01/2026 12:40

Still in bed here, DH and son are going out, MIL texted to say she is coming round with some bits of shopping for us and hopes this is OK?

I replied to say they are going out and I will be here bit probably in bed

"OK I will hope someone answers the bell"

I guess I will let her in and go back to bed.

I knew this would happen. Weeks ago I told her I was not well and not up to visits for the foreseeable, and to contact DH if she needed anything.

Sigh.

PS sorry to hear about the sciatic, I have that sometimes it seems to flare up and then go away for a bit.

I found heat helped it so sitting with a hot water bottle that side of the pelvis, and sitting annoyingly can make it worse so lying down or walking around is better.

But that is not always easy with tiredness and illness.

My dad used to sleep on a board for it not sure what that was about.

Kitterkitkat · 17/01/2026 12:49

Hola Saturday all.

@MewithME ooh that does annoy me when they take the money out instantly but it takes a few working days to put it back

@Oioiqueen yes I dislike being touched too.

Quiet day here, walked into town about 9.30am and got rained on badly so pristine hurrs were ruined. After yet another bad night's sleep might take a catnap soon.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/01/2026 13:45

Bonjour!
Quiet day here. Done a bit of housework, started another (Christmas present) jigsaw puzzle, gasped in horror at the enormity if the.water bill.

Anyway, here's a picture of a hellebore in my garden.

What are you up to today if you have a chronic illness? Thread 5
TeaAndStrumpets · 17/01/2026 14:07

Thanks @Orangesandlemons77 it's hard to keep active without doing too much! Hope your MIL doesn't cause you too much stress.

@Kitterkitkat always nice to get home and dry!

@FuzzyPuffling beautiful!

Stressybetty · 17/01/2026 14:17

Afternoon thanks for new thread @MewithME
I get sciatica too occasionally, it's awful.
Been exhausted all week and light headed, waking up late then having to have another nap after work. Up late today too.
Sainsbury's have started doing an online 60 minute delivery called chopchop on a smaller range of products. Think it's limited to a price or number of items. Might help if their main slots are full rather than click & collect.
Hi to new posters!
Browsing the rest of Mumsnet last night and my goodness there's some nasty people jumping on threads to have a go at the op or other posters. Safer to scurry back to our little corner!
We have a few sorting out jobs to do this weekend but DH still in bed as was up all night researching stuff.
Fed dogs, having a cuppa with shortbread and going to do the washing up from last night, depoop garden and sort washing out.
Have a good day everyone

@MewithME "There's a bunch of films I want to see but I've not been into films lately which is weird for me."

I've been having the same issue. Eventually I figured out that it was that films require a lot more mental effort and I just didn't have the processing power available. A new film needs me to track a bunch of new faces and names and follow who is related to who and how they know each other as well as follow the plot.

With a TV show you've learned all that by episode 2-3 and can just focus on what's happening. The plots also tend to be more simple just because they are 2-3 times shorter too.

I only watch films on days with no stress/brain fog now and stick to TV shows when I'm less able to focus.

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/01/2026 14:48

Well MIL has come and went. Had a coffee with her and did my grey rock- talked about the weather, how busy town was and the paper she usually brings.

Then I told her I was going to rest now but she could stay if she wanted and help herself to more coffee, got a bit of a retort then as she said there was no point if she was going to sit all on her own.

So I ignored that and went to bed! I was wearing my pyjamas too but didn't care, she will need to get used to me looking after myself and resting a bit more.

Interactions especially with some can be stressful!

Oh well will have a bath soon

Swanhilde · 17/01/2026 14:56

Day of rest in bed here with knitting, tea and football ๐Ÿงถโ˜•โšฝ

Love the hellebore @FuzzyPuffling I have a deep crimson one in bud. Aiming to get another when next at the garden centre ๐ŸŒบ

TeaAndStrumpets · 17/01/2026 14:57

Hi @Stressybetty hope you are getting sorted out for housing.

I hardly look at the rest of Mumsnet although it's good for appliance reviews etc. There are some extremely weird people out there! So many examples but I will restrain myself! Plenty you would not want to meet in real life. And why let men in? I would love an all female site.

I had nice long chats with both DDs this morning, that always cheers me up. DD2 is happy to be back at work now and the baby is really settled in nursery. It's a relief it's gone well. They have 3 babies per staff member for the under-twos, and lots of stories and singing. Just hoping for not too many cold bugs!

Yes this is so obvious when you say it! I tend to prefer long running tv series and having an ensemble cast really gives it comfort vibes. The only films I've watched recently are classic 1930s films, When Harry Met Sally and Four Weddings and a Funeral. Guaranteed stress- free!

MewithME · 17/01/2026 17:17

Well I started watching the new Knives Out film then my bestie rang...then I got tired and cold so back to bed and have been dozing. Today has gone way too quickly.

My body feels really weak. Hope I can rest a bit more tomorrow. I have laundry to do an sheets to change tomorrow but otherwise I'm staying in bed. I'm definitely not right.

Oh and I will be obliged to phone my Mum but then that all starts to sound busy and not restful.

The hellebore is gorgeous @FuzzyPuffling. I'm not very good with the garden but I try. I am into salvias. Mum gave me a beauty last year. I have a hellebore under my tree. It's a deep purple almost black. V pretty.

We did enjoy Trigger Point.

Edited

We gave up on Patience after a few episodes it was quite dull I thought. We enjoyed Astrid Murder in Paris which is another version. The second female lead is in a new show called Mademoiselle Holmes which is ludicrous, funny and very French!

We really must get a bigger TV at some point, just for the subtitled films.

Oh thank goodness its not just me! Patience had such good reviews, but yes, I found it dull too. And far fetched. And annoying. ๐Ÿ˜€
