What are you wearing around the house to keep warm?

I am currently wearing jeans, knee high thermal socks underneath, a thermal long sleeve t shirt under a big jumper and a bobble hat!

It’s a bit chilly when I sit down so I am busy tidying up and cooking. I will be going upstairs to watch tv later as it’s warmer up there and I’ll be keeping the bobble hat on!

Are you cold in your house and what are you wearing?

A strappy top, a vest top, a long sleeved top, a thermal microfleece with a high neck and a Xmas jumper. Then jeans and hiking socks and slippers. It's not even that cold in my house, I'm just pathetic!

LaurieFairyCake · 09/01/2026 19:16

A heated throw, had it years and can never imagine life without it

All of the above plus an oodie

I loved mine, until my dog chewed through the wires. Dog free to any home, if anyone's interested.

OhFeyreDarling · 09/01/2026 19:18

Jeans are useless at warmth, I wear joggers or leggings. Fleece jumper with a tee shirt under. Always have a hot water bottle glued to me too

Slightyamusedandsilly · 09/01/2026 19:18

Leggings, socks, slippers. Polo neck, very thick cardigan, dressing gown, scarf. When I sit down, I have a heated blanket. If no one else is at home, I go to bed and put the heated blanket on plus 2 duvets. Bloody love it.

My cats 😁

Whatanewyear26 · 09/01/2026 19:18

Good idea with the Christmas jumper! My teen dc has an oodie but I find them too heavy. I do have an electric blanket which has changed my life!

Maybe it's perimenopause but I'm at most putting on my dressing gown if it's a bit chilly. I'd melt in all these thermals and wooly hats!

Myfridgeiscool · 09/01/2026 19:29

A thick sweatshirt from Scamp and Dude which surprised me how warm it is…jeans and a blanket on my legs…it’s tartan…Im channeling my inner grannie.

EchoedSilence · 09/01/2026 19:32

I hate layers and layers of clothes. I feel all restricted. I'm just in jeans and a jumper with a thermal vest underneath. I am under a heated throw.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/01/2026 19:34

Blanket on my lap and socks. I never usually wear socks in the house, let alone put a blanket over my knees..!

Harrriet · 09/01/2026 19:42

Long length jumper with cowl neck, leggings & socks. I have two Newfies if it gets chilly.

Whatanewyear26 · 09/01/2026 19:55

I don’t remember ever being this cold in my house and I have lived here for ten years. I boiled this summer with all the heatwaves.

Sheepskin boots, which make a lot of difference. Jeans, a t-shirt, a hoodie and a big cardigan. When I was working in my freezing office earlier I had a fluffy heated throw over my lap.

RampantIvy · 09/01/2026 20:02

A T-shirt and a cashmere jumper and jeans. We have the heating on all day as well as we are both at home all day. DH is very underweight due to health issues and has very poor circulation and feels the cold dreadfully. He wears several layers, but still needs the ambient temperature to be comfortable for him as well.

Luckily, the feed in tariff from our solar panels covers most of our energy costs. The good weather we enjoyed last year meant tht we ended up nearly £600 ahead.

Wisperley · 09/01/2026 20:02

Thermal vest, long-sleeved t-shirt, wooly jumper, scarf and zip-up fleece, woolly tights under joggers, thermal socks over woolly tights and fingerless gloves. I sit under a blanket also while watching TV and might also have a hot water bottle. I've honed all of this over many years, and this is what works for me. Heating is too expensive beyond a couple of hours a day.

SheSaidSheCouldButSheLied · 09/01/2026 20:04

A strappy camisole top, jumper, trousers, and slippers. I keep the heating on all day, at 18 degrees. I'm in my late 60s and at home all day

ResusciAnnie · 09/01/2026 20:04

I’m not that cold today but it’s 3° outside so not too bad. Wearing joggers, socks and T-shirt and dressing gown. Blanket on sofa. Been wearing my slippers last few months but usually don’t bother. I’m a rather be cold than hot person!

Screamingabdabz · 09/01/2026 20:05

Central Heating? 🤷🏻‍♀️

borntobequiet · 09/01/2026 20:11

A fleece top from some equestrian range over a thermal vest, fleece lined joggers, two pairs of socks, fur lined boots and a possum/merino hat. I live in a very old, cold and draughty house. It’s 11°C in the kitchen where I’ve just eaten my dinner, though I have a radiator on.

ShodAndShadySenators · 09/01/2026 20:14

Our heating is set to 21.5°C, mostly for my benefit as I feel the cold. Currently wearing long sleeve top and jumper, jeans, socks and suede slippers. And I have a throw over my lap. DH and son are wearing t-shirts, and I could be one of those annoying people who thrust their chilly hands on others while wailing, "See how cold it is!" but I won't this time.

They do find it amazing that the ambient temperature can be like 21°C but my hands are at 16°C and look pale, shrivelled and nasty.

WinterGardening · 09/01/2026 20:15

Jeans are rubbish for keeping warm. I'm in cheap M&S trousers, cotton camisole thing, Hush cotton-ish top, and a cheap furry gilet. The gilet really keeps me warm. Socks and slippers.

Electric blanket is already on for later 🛌

SelkieSeal · 09/01/2026 20:18

Thin merino leggings with a patterned pair of cotton leggings over them

Hand knitted leg warmers

Thin merino socks with a pair of heat holders fluffy socks over them

Sheepskin boots as slippers

Merino/silk blend long sleeve vest top, fleecey jumper dress (made it myself, it's very snuggly and it's got POCKETS), longline wool cardigan that comes down to my calves

House does have central heating but its 500 years old (the house, not the heating system 😂) and draughty as fuck. Plus stone floors downstairs 🥶

DonewhatIcando · 09/01/2026 20:21

Joggers, fleece top, vest, dressing gown, fluffy socks and a throw over my lap, ddog is under the throw too so getting some of her body heat.
My butt always seems to be cold, I'm getting old I think
