Does anyone still support this Labour government?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 28/12/2025 12:24

I know NO ONE in real life who still sticks up for them (apart from my mother, and she would support Labour even if KS owned up to creating Covid). Apart from that, all quiet on the western front.

I haven’t seen any support on here, or SM for weeks now.

Is it my algorithm bubble, or are people genuinely disappointed with them? I don’t think it can be the algorithms though, as until a few weeks ago there were still words of support popping up.

For full disclosure I think this government is a total shitshow intent on dismantling British culture, and taxing the private sector to death in order to pay for the public sector. With no long term plan once the private sector is squeezed totally dry. I am BEYOND disappointed with them.

If they were supporting womens rights I'd support them over the even more rubbish alternatives.

Both of those statements about Johnson and Truss are Labour falsehoods.

That’s how Labour got in: lies.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Christ I’ve read some shit.., but this tops it all.

ChrisMartinsKisskam · 28/12/2025 16:11

I can’t stand KS them and would never vote for them/ him he’s a wet puffy puddle of shit
like most of his cabinet

I dislike his very authoritarian way

dislike how he says one thing then will do the opposite . He has no strength at all .

along with the lifting of the 2 child benefit cap
attempting to bring in digital Id which was never in the manifesto at all as far as I can tell.

immigration

and slowly trying to get back into the EU by stealth.

Can’t stand him or labour and can’t wait till they fuck off

You make no sense. How can he be wet and ‘puffy’ (what?) with no strength and also authoritarian?

@PutTheCakeDOWN I mistakenly thought you were interested in a debate and had at least some conviction in your arguments. The Rwanda posts were a bit of a giveaway but the fiscal drag is too much.

What gave you that impression? I don’t have many arguments, the ones I do have conviction in I’ve posted lengthy replies on.
I posted wondering exactly what I wrote in my OP.

I don’t pretend to be a political expert, but neither do most people (off mumsnet). I know about the policies that affect me, and have half an eye on the rest. I don’t have time to also take a degree in it to satisfy strangers on MN who think that anyone falling short of their knowledge standards is ‘thick’ and shouldn’t be allowed the vote.

I didn't vote for them, but I did think they would be better than they have been.

The pointless spite of some of their policies achieved nothing and is so devisive
The horrendous levels of stress and the suicides caused by the family farm tax, only to be reviewed later. If only they'd bothered to think about the impact first.
The same with their procrastination over the autumn statement, spooking businesses, damaging sales pipelines, causing redundancies. Scaring those on PIP.

The govt is ignorant and incompetent. I'll be pleased to be rid of them. The difficulty is who is likely to replace them. 🙁

What spite? No suicides were caused by the change to IHT on farms as it hasn’t come in yet - plus if you fear IHT surely you try to live longer? Don’t talk nonsense.

Lostsoultrip · 28/12/2025 18:01

PutTheCakeDOWN · 28/12/2025 12:40

Constantly welcoming extremist anti-British extremists.

Doing nothing to stop the channel crossings.

Doing nothing to promote British culture (they are ashamed of it, rather).

Sowing division and creating class wars.

And not least, their all-out war on rural Britain.

Where's your evidence for any of this rather than just spouting the algorithm crap you see on social media?

Yes I could also swallow more of the shite if they were even vaguely interested in women’s rights.

No - I voted for them in the last few elections and feel very let down by them. Their insistence on pushing men's rights over those of women's , despite the SC ruling, has been the final straw for me.

Did you actually just say that?? That is disgusting.

There have been many suicides. It would be fucking stupid to top yourself AFTER the policy comes in, what do you gain? It is an absolute tragedy.

And ‘just try to live longer’?

Words don’t often fail me…

I still prefer Labour to the alternatives but bloody hell they're making it hard to like them.

The constant flip-flopping and U-turns, the spinelessness on forcing through difficult but necessary reforms, the vindictiveness towards farmers and rural communities, the paying off of trade unions without securing anything in return, the performative virtue-signalling over Gaza, the laughable appointment of Tulip Siddiq as anti-corruption minister... yuk.

And it seems whenever Starmer announces a big new idea it's always something depressing and authoritarian. No-one is sat at home thinking "Well, I wasn't sure about Labour, but now that they're introducing mandatory ID cards I'm a complete convert!"

But as others have said, he seems to be a competent statesman, and they do seem to be fixing a lot of boring but important stuff.

‘Constant flip flopping and u turns’ is a right wing media line. Care to list them? I can think of changes to WFA and farm IHT. Now there were u turns, just reposts to feedback (democracy in action, you might say).

I didn’t say there hadn’t been suicides. I said they weren’t about IHT. Sadly there has been a high suicide rate in the farming community for a long time. It’s not the fault of this government. It sickens me that you try to make it so for your own political reasons.

SomedayIllBeSaturdayNight · 28/12/2025 18:15

I do. I think they are doing a good job in very difficult circumstances. Sure, they've got stuff wrong, but I'm general I'm happy.

I’m pleased to hear you’re a “really person”.

The facts are on my side. Your party ran, and runs, a giant lie machine.

Woman and their supporters fought very hard for women's rights over the years. We have to protect them and always think of vulnerable women who need help

SomedayIllBeSaturdayNight · 28/12/2025 18:27

Raising the minimum wage, dropping the two child benefit cap, breakfast clubs, renewed focus and funding for ending homelessness, more focus on apprenticeships, the Renters Rights Act etc - all reasons I don't think they're doing a bad job.

Didn't Labour initially say an inquiry into the grooming gangs wasn't necessary?

I'm quite sure that Labour have made some untrue comments and put a positive/negative spin on stories. Probably about as much as every other political party. But I am also quite sure that neither of those statements are fundamentally falsehoods.

the numbers haven’t increased. It’s incredibly sad that anyone takes their own life. It’s utterly repugnant to use it to push your political viewpoint.
