Does anyone still support this Labour government?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 28/12/2025 12:24

I know NO ONE in real life who still sticks up for them (apart from my mother, and she would support Labour even if KS owned up to creating Covid). Apart from that, all quiet on the western front.

I haven’t seen any support on here, or SM for weeks now.

Is it my algorithm bubble, or are people genuinely disappointed with them? I don’t think it can be the algorithms though, as until a few weeks ago there were still words of support popping up.

For full disclosure I think this government is a total shitshow intent on dismantling British culture, and taxing the private sector to death in order to pay for the public sector. With no long term plan once the private sector is squeezed totally dry. I am BEYOND disappointed with them.

Perhaps you should question why you only notice when its against Labour?

Yes those who can only notice in that case, seems odd.

My point about therapies and other therapeutic provision wasn’t because that is the only reason for independent schools. It isn’t. There are many reasons. My point was because if parents EHE (which would be the only other option for some people who say wouldn’t send their DC to an independent school even if it was the only suitable school), the LA doesn’t have the same duty to provide the provision in F of an EHCP.

Those with EHCPs don't need to live within a school's catchment area in order for the school to be named in an EHCP.

If you are struggling with the fees, will you be struggling to pay private healthcare insurance fees?

BurntBroccoli · 31/12/2025 16:28

EasternStandard · 30/12/2025 17:06

I don’t think the taxing education policy will last beyond the next GE if they’re out and people won’t care that much if it goes.

The point was to get more teachers in state and improve that sector. If people don’t feel the improvements there they’ll understand the policy was flimsy and damaging in terms of closing schools.

The only private schools that have closed round here were already failing to the falling birthrate. This was going back 2 years so absolutely nothing to do with the VAT policy.

I’m not sure I understand the point of your post?

My DC aren’t in independent school(s). They don’t have private medical insurance. The therapies they receive are special educational provision. They are provided via their EHCPs and the LA is responsible for ensuring they are provided. My financial situation is irrelevant, but while we aren’t rich, we are comfortable despite very high disability related expenses for my DC.

Maybe I’m suffering from selective reading. But I don’t think so-I genuinely don’t like anyone doing it. It is interesting though that the right leaning people on here can’t come up with any significant examples- just a few pretty low profile people (2 of which I have never heard of!)

You’ve had them in @TheNuthatchpost and @Papyrophilepost, are you still unable to read it when listed for you?

That could be the issue.

Yes

You never answered about ‘lettuce’. Why was that?

They’ve all the same treatment from people who claim not to see it. Maybe one can’t when joining in.

And anyone who can't read Bad Enoch as the Leader of the Opposition...

The Guardian used a different but also lame attempt at a slur in a headline for KB. Not lately given her rating is above Starmer.

Time for CurlewKate to make an appointment at SpecSavers, methinks!

Yep whatever people list they’ll just say I can’t see it.

Papyrophile · 31/12/2025 17:28

A million years ago, there was a challenge between Sun and Guardian journalists to write and produce an edition of the other paper. The Sun's Guardian was pretty good, but the Guardian's version of the Sun was pretty lame apparently. This may be apocryphal, but dates back to 'old' Fleet St.

Papyrophile · 31/12/2025 17:30

Before the Times and Sunday Times moved to Wapping, so 35 or 40 years ago.

CurlewKate · 31/12/2025 17:47

Oh god- Bad Enoch is Badenoch? Of course it is- I didn’t get it. Who is Dubai Dick then? As for Lettuce-I kind of assumed that was a concept universally used by both the left and the right-she was a glitch in the political space/time continuum. And I have certainly heard people from across the political spectrum using very disobliging language about Trump.

CurlewKate · 31/12/2025 17:50

Incidentally I seriously advise you not to google Dubai Dick. I just did…..it was a mistake.

Vargas · 31/12/2025 17:51

They’re the best of a bad bunch, and I really can’t see who else I would vote for, but I really wish they had some actual policies and stood by them.

And it would help if they knew what a woman was…

Thank you for the laugh. I dread to think what Google came up with. 😂
I thought you were feigning ignorance when you said you didn't know who Dubai Dick was. My apologies, its Richard Tice. Others have explained Bad Enoch.

Thank you! No-I don’t waste my time or anyone else’s with that sort of pretence. Too tedious…..

LlttledrummergirI · 31/12/2025 19:13

I assume people call him Dubai Dick because he lives in Dubai at least part of the year with his girlfriend?

He really needs to make up his mind on immigration.

pinotnow · 31/12/2025 20:17

I would just like to say that, while I agree that most of the nicknames on both sides are crass, childish and detract from the issues at hand, 30p Lee is absolutely deserved. It's based on comments he actually made, and not a coincidence based on alliteration or what his name rhymes with that is loosely linked to his views in a broad sense. He actually said that people could cook from scratch for 30p, and considering the constituency he 'serves' that is pretty unforgivable. I have it on good account from people who have met him through work that he is a deeply unpleasant individual and, yes, the name is well-deserved and of his own making.

Papyrophile · 31/12/2025 20:28

This is a good thread. Happy to resume tomorrow, but for tonight, I would like to wish everyone who's participated openly and honestly, a lovely party evening tonight and a splendid 2026.

EasternStandard · 31/12/2025 12:44

To add it is odd some claim to have never seen these. Some are probably used on threads they post on.

I don't think it's that odd. I've seen people use 30p Lee, Bad Enoch, Two-tier Keir and Lettuce (at least two of those are used regularly in national newspapers). I can honestly say that this thread is the first time I've seen or heard any of the others, although I could probably have guessed the uncouth corruption of Farage's name. A few weeks ago I called posters out for using the 'Rachel from accounts' slur, although far from showing any contrition, they simply doubled down with their name-calling. It's prevalent on both sides of the political spectrum.

You’ve just listed them, some were claiming not to have seen any, apart from Labour ones of course.
