Does anyone still support this Labour government?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 28/12/2025 12:24

I know NO ONE in real life who still sticks up for them (apart from my mother, and she would support Labour even if KS owned up to creating Covid). Apart from that, all quiet on the western front.

I haven’t seen any support on here, or SM for weeks now.

Is it my algorithm bubble, or are people genuinely disappointed with them? I don’t think it can be the algorithms though, as until a few weeks ago there were still words of support popping up.

For full disclosure I think this government is a total shitshow intent on dismantling British culture, and taxing the private sector to death in order to pay for the public sector. With no long term plan once the private sector is squeezed totally dry. I am BEYOND disappointed with them.

I don’t really use the nicknames but I don’t mind them at all. If the cap fits and all that.

If you have a massive problem with Labour being called Liebour due to them telling lies, that sounds like a You problem.

You being offended doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong.

The names don't offend me in the slightest, I just think that they make the poster commenting sound ridiculous and kind of invalidates what could have been a good point. Loses all credibility and makes people tune out or roll their eyes.

It’s childish though. I don’t like (or use) any of them as a rule. Farage annoys me enough on a personal level that i might have occasionally done it to him but I’m not proud of it and I don’t think it adds anything to the debate or makes me look witty or clever.
I don’t think Labour have lied much, have they? People seem to mostly get their knickers in a twist when they do exactly what they said they would in their manifesto. Changing a policy after feedback isn’t telling a lie either.

EasternStandard · 31/12/2025 11:44

CurlewKate · 31/12/2025 11:40

I actually haven’t heard a made up name for Braverman, no. I’ve heard mispronunciations of Farage. And I assume Trump is an exception-all bets are off there! But no, I can’t think of any routine nicknames used by the Left for prominent Tory politicians or the Tory party. I may of course be in denial…...

Idk why you wouldn’t have noticed, perhaps because you care more for Labour.

The level of dialogue was set by the left for the previous gov and now Labour are feeling the same.

Labour lied their heads off about supposed Tory corruption. It was very effective, but polluted politics.

Starmer lied about his freebie penthouse stay. In a very cowardly way at that.

He also lied about not being behind the attacks on Streeting.

The run up to the budget was an astonishing grand lie.

But I think hypocrisy is Labour’s even bigger problem.

“Supposed Tory corruption”. Oh dear. Baroness Mone? Was that a lie? Downing Street parties? Covid contracts to cronies? Righto.

Yes I think Starmer and co are feeling the backlash to this now.

Thank you. At last an example. I find all these would be clever political bastardisations equally puerile regardless of which party they’re applied to. I can’t take anyone who uses them seriously.

I agree, and its not something I do. I know you don't do it either.
I think the point is that is should be called out (or ignored) equally, not just reserved for the names used against Labour.
Fartage, Deform, Dubai Dick, 30p Lee, Lettuce, Bad Enoch or an orange emoji for Trump to give just a few examples are regularly ignored. They are no better than Liebour, or Rachel thieves etc imo.

To answer @CurlewKate, I have reported the use of Deform, as I also find it hugely offensive. MN don't agree and have never deleted the posters using it.

Lied about Tory corruption? Rubbish. It’s evidenced.
The other stuff is nonsense too - and it’s not Labour, it an attack on one man.
the run up to the budget 8nvolved no lies from Labour, but a lot of made up stuff from the media. Labour just didn’t say what was going to be in the budget until budget day, like every other party ever.
I asked whether Labour, the party, had lied much in order to get such a silly nick name

To add it is odd some claim to have never seen these. Some are probably used on threads they post on.

I think the name goes back to Blair and the false pretext for attacking Iraq.

The corruption allegations are not ‘evidenced’. Sure there were Tories who put their hands in the till. But that was and is just as true of Labour. This time round we’ve even got a former minister sentenced to two years in prison in Bangladesh for corrupt practices and facing more charges. She denies it, but it’s embarrassing whatever the truth.

The covid contract corruption is a giant lie. I see a pp is going on about Mone. She was never in government and was suspended from the HoL by the Tories. The Tories brought the civil proceedings against her to recover the money, not Labour.

How much government corruption did the ‘Covid Corruption Czar’ report? Er, none. Zilch.

Partygate has nothing to do with corruption. Stupid, certainly, but it’s not corruption.

This Tory corruption bollocks is the lie that just won’t die.

I think they are all tedious and I wouldn’t take anyone seriously who used them more than once. However, I don’t see them routinely used, unlike the names used for the Labour Party and senior Labour people which are constant on here. I genuinely don’t know who Dubai Dick or Bad Enoch are!

Oh for goodness sake. “Spite”. No it was done as private schools were using the loophole of being charities to avoid paying tax. Paying VAT is perfectly reasonable as its a service like any other that people pay VAT on.

Except that it flies in the face of accepted public goods. No other country in the world taxes primary or secondary education, and it is explicitly written into the EU's rules that education should be free of tax. So the tax will have to be lifted for re-entry to the EU.

Plus, far from raising enough to pay for the 6500 new promised teachers, a further 1200 have left the profession. In my book, that's an own goal.

Papyrophile · 31/12/2025 13:58

Re the nicknames, Braverman was often dubbed "Cruella".

LlttledrummergirI · 31/12/2025 14:03

Again, the nicknames for individual politicians is across the board and yes I've seen these.

Calling an entire political party something in an attempt to sully everyone associated with it is different. This is something that I haven't seen (and I would have noticed and reported deform) towards the other parties. It's lazy, disingenuous and tells me the user is not open to honest debate as they hold an entrenched position.
