Does anyone still support this Labour government?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 28/12/2025 12:24

I know NO ONE in real life who still sticks up for them (apart from my mother, and she would support Labour even if KS owned up to creating Covid). Apart from that, all quiet on the western front.

I haven’t seen any support on here, or SM for weeks now.

Is it my algorithm bubble, or are people genuinely disappointed with them? I don’t think it can be the algorithms though, as until a few weeks ago there were still words of support popping up.

For full disclosure I think this government is a total shitshow intent on dismantling British culture, and taxing the private sector to death in order to pay for the public sector. With no long term plan once the private sector is squeezed totally dry. I am BEYOND disappointed with them.

Yes, I've seen Farage called other things, as I have other politicians across the spectrum. That's different to the lazy slurring of an entire political party.

I also don't believe that taxing private education was done to spite people. It was done to raise much needed revenue following the 14 years of conservative mismanagement.

But it’s been proven that it hasn’t done that? And never could have done?

It is pure spite, there is no other reason.

Oh for goodness sake. “Spite”. No it was done as private schools were using the loophole of being charities to avoid paying tax. Paying VAT is perfectly reasonable as its a service like any other that people pay VAT on.

There you go, better than the I haven’t seen anything lot. Of course the tories have attacked in similar ways. Were you on here when they were in power?

Wot, like calling all Tories 'scum'?

It’s interesting that people claim not to see it, it’s probably not the case and they can (perhaps they contribute) but still..

There’s no leg to stand wrt getting it back.

Like ‘Tory scum’ ‘lazy and stupid Reform voters’?

I’m not particularly worked up by VAT on independent education. I have no skin in that game.

But it’s plainly nothing to do with fairness. Private school parents pay tax just like everyone else. They weren’t avoiding anything. It was just a bit of red meat to throw to the Labour left.

Like the hunting ban: very few care about foxes - which can still be shot perfectly legally; foxes aren’t a protected species - it was all unpleasant class warfare.

They’ve made some poor decisions but I’d rather a centrist left government than a fascist one. We don’t have a lot of choice in our country, you have to pick the least worst option.

People post they can’t see it, probably due to contributing to it.

An interesting and factually incorrect post.

Most private schools are still charities, charging VAT hasn't changed that.

As for "charging VAT like most other services", educational services are exempt from VAT in all EU countries.

The policy has failed to deliver what it promised on tax revenue raised and failed to deliver on the increase in the number of state school teachers as promised.

Which leaves the only possible rationale for it being "spite" or "politics of envy".

If Labour ditch Starmer and Reeves after the May 2026 local elections and replace them with a more left wing leader and Chancellor then they will guarantee either a Reform Government or Reform/ Conservative coalition Government at the next election.

😂 What is that even supposed to mean 😂
The usual conspiracy theory that anyone with a different opinion must be paid, or clocking on for a shift?!
Rational lol.

Thank you. At last an example. I find all these would be clever political bastardisations equally puerile regardless of which party they’re applied to. I can’t take anyone who uses them seriously.

BoxesBoxesEverywhere · 31/12/2025 11:01

Ah yes forgot Deform, I have seen that used occasionally.
That's just as ridiculous as well and anyone saying that shouldn't be taken seriously and loses all credibility.

Did I say that? No. The conspiracy theory of bots is reserved for the left leaning posters only. I don’t think anyone on this thread is a bot.

CurlewKate · 31/12/2025 11:17

I’ve never heard Deform-and I hope I never do. It sounds offensive, possibly reportable, and isn’t even mildly witty. Tory scum is juvenile and I don’t think is ever used as a generic term for the Tory Party, in the way Liebour is. Nobody talks about the Tory Scum Manifesto routinely, do they? Tory Scum MPs? It really seems to be the Right that go in for the nicknames for individuals too. I realise this sounds trivial, but it isn’t. It filters into the public consciousness in a very destructive way.

If your viewpoint is simply that ‘if EVERYONE can’t have it then NO-ONE should have it’ then your views are straying too close to communism for me to bother discussing further.

I d8dntsay that. I said I had no problem with the VAT loophole closing.
So do you work 3 days a week or all the hours there are in two jobs?
I couldn’t have done what you suggest, by the way. I had a child to look after and spend time with (much more valuable than extra money) and I’d have been ill if I’d worked more hours. Education finally broke me when DD was an adult. I burned out. If I’d done that earlier she’d have been a lot worse off.

I do agree though. I don’t go in for Liebour, Two Tier Keir etc.

Have you seen anyone use a made up version for Farage, Braverman and Trump on here?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 31/12/2025 11:36

I don’t really use the nicknames but I don’t mind them at all. If the cap fits and all that.

If you have a massive problem with Labour being called Liebour due to them telling lies, that sounds like a You problem.

You being offended doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong.

I don’t think there’s a leg to stand on there anyway, the left have relied on similar for some time.

I actually haven’t heard a made up name for Braverman, no. I’ve heard mispronunciations of Farage. And I assume Trump is an exception-all bets are off there! But no, I can’t think of any routine nicknames used by the Left for prominent Tory politicians or the Tory party. I may of course be in denial…...
