Does anyone still support this Labour government?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 28/12/2025 12:24

I know NO ONE in real life who still sticks up for them (apart from my mother, and she would support Labour even if KS owned up to creating Covid). Apart from that, all quiet on the western front.

I haven’t seen any support on here, or SM for weeks now.

Is it my algorithm bubble, or are people genuinely disappointed with them? I don’t think it can be the algorithms though, as until a few weeks ago there were still words of support popping up.

For full disclosure I think this government is a total shitshow intent on dismantling British culture, and taxing the private sector to death in order to pay for the public sector. With no long term plan once the private sector is squeezed totally dry. I am BEYOND disappointed with them.

Obviously going by the the last 100 polls - a lot of people disagree with you!

Labour doing badly in the polls does not mean that a lot of people think the Rwanda policy would have stopped the boats overnight.

There are countless examples of Farage refusing to answer questions and being evasive and attacking journalists who ask him things he doesn't like. God knows where this myth that he is so straight-talking comes from. He's fine until he's challenged.

Yeah, he's still both refusing to confirm or deny the blatantly racist and anti semitic comments he made to schoolmates, despite the - I think- 28 witnesses currently, and refusing to apologise for them.

In this, he's proving himself to be much cleverer than Richard Tice, who out and out said that all the ex pupils who have come forward are lying, presumably laying himself open to a libel case

I’m no fan of Nigel Farage and I dont ever plan on voting Reform.

But this sneery attitude gets you nowhere - as the polls show.

Like him or not, he DOES answer questions and is straight talking. He tends to say what he means, and people - lots of people - like that.

Farage doesn't say what he means. He merely says what he thinks will win him support. He's certainly not on familiar terms with the truth. Unfortunately there are many voters who are too thick or lazy, probably both, to actually check what he says.

He knows exactly what he's doing. If in any doubt, just cast your mind back to the Brexit campaign.

I am not sure how you think calling people thick and lazy will in any way help to enlighten them.
@PutTheCakeDOWN is correct. This sneery attitude is the reason that Reform are gaining so many supporters.
But then, if you can't come up with a sensible response, resort to name calling is always the left way on MN af least

The main problem the political parties have to solve is that JoeNormal thinks the Tories are beholden to shareholders who want to trouser every last half penny Joe has earned them (which is close enough to the truth), and Labour want to spaff every last penny Joe has paid in tax on his quite ordinary earnings on lost causes (which is also fairly accurate).

So Reform tiptoe their way between the extremes and sound reasonable to most ordinary people who set their alarm clock and go to work each morning. Reform appeals to tradespeople. The builders, motor engineers, agricultural contractor, carpenters, kitchen fitters, electricians, plumbers and small business folk who took the risk of going self employed, and who account for most of the 70% of SMEs who employ 60% of the population. If they are not on your side, you are toast politically. They expect to pay tax for the NHS and to pay their parents' pensions; they do not want to pay tax for non-contributors who stepped off a rubber dinghy 10 hours ago.

You might think Joe's not important, as he didn't go to university and isn't politically vocal. But Joe has a vote and he is going to vote for Nigel next time he's given an opportunity. All the polls are telling you this. You just don't want to hear his voice.

Joe Normal is going to vote Reform??

Have you seen the polls? just 26% intend to vote Reform, used to be mid 30s....

People are starting to see through Farage, you might support him, older people often do vote Right wing but among under 30s... his support is less than 10%.

Then there is the opening up of the 16/17 yo's...

We know plenty of Trades people and few of them support Farage, mainly because they see him as responsible for Brexit, which has screwed them over.

Tbf the only sneery attitude on here is from the right who like to use the term "Lefties" as some sort of insult, almost all 'right wing posters use it....

Reform on 26% YouGov.

@PutTheCakeDOWN

Foreigners from countries more aligned with our culture are absolutely seen as being more ‘acceptable’ because people can identify more with them. There’s nothing wrong with that

We used to take foreign workers from White Christian European countries....

Perhaps you'd like to remind us all who helped stop all of that? post Brexit immigration inc students, is almost all from Asia and Africa, many of whom from Muslim countries, bring in large families.

At least Labour have cracked down on this and net immigration is around 220k pa instead of the 1million pa under the Tories.

So calling people thick and lazy is not sneering?
How would you describe it then?
Yet apparently the only sneering is from the right, calling left wing posters - gasp - lefties
Of course, pps who lean left are so convinced of their righteous they work on the principle that sneery comments like this are not insults but fair comment.
In other words, anyone with different opinions to them are thick and stupid, they just are.

No but at least the Tory were trying to get a solution and now parts of Europe (and America) are using Rwanda as a third country. I do believe it would have been a deterrent as migrants were going a lot more to Ireland when there was even that threat.

Simplestars · 30/12/2025 07:48

I still would vote for them over the alternatives.

How many posters have called right wing voters "thick and lazy" ? Have i called anyone that?

Your post is in tone, sneery.... a post can be sneery with name calling... plenty of right wing posters use far stronger words and phrases too.

But the bottom line is the 'right have been in power for 49 years since the 1945, left 29.
They have also been in power for 14 years most recently but what have they achieved?
They almost doubled the national debt, wrecked public services, wrecked our utilities, esp water, ran down MH and maternity services (thats according to Jeremy Hunt no less, a well known leftie)

Can you name a single public service that has improved since 2010?

They had 14 years, plenty of time to make a positive change but failed, yet Labour were judged as a failure within months..... how sneery is that?

Evidence please? no European country is using Rwanda, the US has a deal to send 250 migrants there (over several years) no one else.

I think most people can see there’s issues with the current systems as they are. Some still believe Labour will resolve it but nearly all want something to change.

To be honest @Alexandra2001 I find you impossible to debate with, so i am bowing out now.

You are and clearly always will be a Labour supporter and as such will back and justify everything they do and will do in a way you would not do if it was Tories doing exactly the same thing.
That's fine, you do you but it is tiresome.

This is simply not true. No other European country is using Rwanda in this way. It was incredibly expensive and achieved nothing. If Starmer had done this, your opinion would be wholly different. Which party allowed our asylum system to fall into absolute chaos? I am really tired of people trying to find anything to attack Starmer with when the last 14 years were an absolute shitshow. Brexit? Corruption? Covid parties? Truss? Our rivers? The NHS? Try to at least be objective and see that whilst not perfect, this government is trying to mend the damage caused by years of mismanagement.

It moved people on to Ireland voluntarily. Voluntary movement is the best way if you want to save money.

“Save money”. How much did it cost in total to encourage a few hundred people to move to Ireland? And have you consulted the Irish people on this idea?

That was the main outcome of the scheme that was scrapped. People voted it out so it won’t be the case anymore. That voluntary movement would always be far cheaper than any deportation.

And I repeat, have you consulted the Irish people on this? Ireland is not there to deal with our failures. 14 years of mismanagement of our immigration and asylum system is not solvable by a ridiculously expensive plan, that added massively to national debt, and national debt is why our economy was in such dire straits after 14 years of utter mismanagement.

Well for starters i'm not a Labour support, i'm just not a Tory one, they have wrecked the country.

I never ignored your post, i asked how many posters have called people thick and stupid, you never replied because you know its a tiny minority.

If you look on the thread about that vile Egyptian man, i have consistently criticised Starmer and Labour on this.
& i have criticised Labour over IHT, WFP, lack of Dentistry, Social housing & Welfare Reform or lack of it.

So your claim holds no water

BUT what i don't agree with is you and others painting the nations woes as all on Labour, they aren't or not all of them, they are as a result of Tory policies over decades .

As said it’s been scrapped so no need. It was an easy way to move people to an EU country which apparently people do want via one on one out with France, only that costs and doesn’t do much.

StarsTwinklingPomanders · 30/12/2025 09:20

@Alexandra2001 what a joke ! That's why the far left supported brexit because trades where the exact group hit hard by eastern European trades people flooding the market with cheap labour ,living cheaply in hmos etc

Honestly !

Papyrophile · 30/12/2025 10:25

I may be old, but I am fairly sure that I am neither lazy nor stupid. (I would concede that sometimes I get stuff wrong!) And no, I shall NOT vote for Reform. As I have said earlier, I hold all politicians of all governments over the last 35 years equally culpable for the country's present plight.

Papyrophile · 30/12/2025 10:29

But I also think we're watching the West's economic dominance slip away which is a trend visible across most of Europe. Spain, Portugal and Poland are perhaps the exceptions, but these were very poor in comparison to the founder nations on joining the EU.

That post isn’t calling a specific person thick or lazy, it’s in general about people who don’t fact check and believe any old nonsense because they like the sound of it.
Personally I find it really hard not to think someone who believed Farage’s lies over Brexit and is now saying he’s the answer is anything other than a bit stupid or, at best, naive.
