Does anyone still support this Labour government?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 28/12/2025 12:24

I know NO ONE in real life who still sticks up for them (apart from my mother, and she would support Labour even if KS owned up to creating Covid). Apart from that, all quiet on the western front.

I haven’t seen any support on here, or SM for weeks now.

Is it my algorithm bubble, or are people genuinely disappointed with them? I don’t think it can be the algorithms though, as until a few weeks ago there were still words of support popping up.

For full disclosure I think this government is a total shitshow intent on dismantling British culture, and taxing the private sector to death in order to pay for the public sector. With no long term plan once the private sector is squeezed totally dry. I am BEYOND disappointed with them.

Gangs might take a little while, don’t you think?
The one-in-one out policy has started and will gradually increase as far as I understand it.

Surely, an update would be in order though?

Given they have been in government for 18 months.

What say you?

It does to make sense. It was in relation to some posts up thread, specifically @HermioneWeasleylist and what qualified on there as populist. Nothing so far.

No, it doesn’t.it isn’t part of your discussion with another poster. You asked a direct question. I answered it. That’s how discussion threads go.

I asked a question to the pp given it was on a specific post. Read back and you can catch up.

Agree although the Channel crossings are the update. It’s a pretty direct outcome. If people are still crossing gangs are still operating.

BurntBroccoli · 29/12/2025 18:56

Yes I do support them.
A list so far of what they have done:

Increased the minimum wage

Strengthened workers’ rights (limits on zero-hours contracts, better sick pay, ban on fire-and-rehire)

Began planning reform to build more homes including solar on rooftops

Introduced stronger renters’ protections (moving to end no-fault evictions)

Froze or reduced some cost-of-living pressures (e.g. rail fares, bus fares prescription charges)

Set up Great British Energy to invest in renewable power

Started a new industrial strategy to support UK businesses

Increased funding for apprenticeships and youth jobs

Invested more in homelessness prevention

Launched a defence and security review

Tightened rules on water companies and pollution

Will ban trail hunting

Agreed a deal for rejoining Erasmus wef 2027

From September 2026, all children in households on Universal Credit in England will be entitled to free school meals helping lift about 100,000 out of poverty (this also applies to nurseries)

Rolling out Breakfast clubs

Increased school based nursery places

Halved net migration

Disappointed but prefer them to previous gov & Reform. Confused why they are quite so reviled tbh.

Right wing media and social media algorithms.

Absolutely right. Nigel Farage also always answers questions that are posed to him unlike other politicians. He is straight talking, and I think, a brave politician

😂😂😂😂😂

I’m no fan of Nigel Farage and I dont ever plan on voting Reform.

But this sneery attitude gets you nowhere - as the polls show.

Like him or not, he DOES answer questions and is straight talking. He tends to say what he means, and people - lots of people - like that.

I refer to the specifics of the much-trumpeted one in, one out.

Leaving aside the hackneyed and robotic ‘smash the gangs’ repeated ad nauseum.

As to immigration, irregular arrivals are up.

The Rwanda plan was a scheme was a plan to move money from the U.K. government to the Rwandan government while convincing some of the U.K. population that it was doing something to deter people crossing in small boats. It did nothing to deter people crossing, nor would it ever have done.

They had the capacity to take one boat load of people per year and had no intention of keeping track of the people they took. They Rwandan government had sold the accommodation they built with the money to Rwandans long before the Labour government got in.

It was also one in, one out.

That policy only began on 10th July this year - so 5 months. They specifically stated it was in test mode to iron out any potential issues.

He doesn’t give a straight answer when asked about how he would deal with the NHS?

AGlessandahalf · 29/12/2025 19:11

I take great exception to the assertations that death by suicide has increased due to IHT. There is one recorded case which confirms this and no increase in number of high suicides and accidental deaths in farming that I can see in the data. This is a highly emotive topic so please don’t trigger people by stamping feet saying things that simply aren’t true without backing it up. Am happy to be corrected but there is a huge amount of work by numerous public sector agencies as well as the voluntary sector to reduce death by suicide.

https://energysavingtrust.org.uk/wood-burner-regulations-fines/
So there are changes to emissions produced from wood burning stoves which seems environmentally sound to me.

Trail Hunting - anyone who knows anyone around this world knows that the majority are still going after foxes! And it’s disingenuous to say children can join in for £10. Who is subsiding the horses for this? We used to hang people and let children watch for “entertainment”
To me hunting is in the same traditional category. This was in their manifesto so no problems with this.

Labour have published the figures on immigration and are at least making inroads and have a plan.
The White paper then has to go through parliament and the routes required in our democracy to be implemented. Labour aren’t claiming all the glory for the reductions in immigrants which I actually admire.

I think they are doing a pretty decent job after the mess of the last 14 years and a full, steady hardworking government is just what I want.

pinotnow · 29/12/2025 19:21

There are countless examples of Farage refusing to answer questions and being evasive and attacking journalists who ask him things he doesn't like. God knows where this myth that he is so straight-talking comes from. He's fine until he's challenged.

HazeyjaneIII · 29/12/2025 19:37

"He is straight talking, and I think, a brave politician"

"he DOES answer questions and is straight talking. He tends to say what he means,"

Is this the same straight talking Nigel Farage who said...

... "that doctors are “massively over-diagnosing” children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)" and that... "so many of these diagnoses, for SEND before 18, or for disability register after 18 – have been conducted on Zoom, with the family GP."

So brave, so inaccurate... what a stand up guy.

AGlessandahalf · 29/12/2025 19:44

Farage answers questions, but not with any honesty or integrity. Rarely does he actually have a plan that would be economically viable.
He continues to blatantly lie and doesn’t get called out for it.

Do you really want a politician in power that answers without thinking, has such a poor record on voting when he was an MEP and his party are ruining local councils as have no idea.

As you wish.

They will fail, of course - many of us know this. This is a government defined by incompetence.

If you follow the context you’ll see the pp said @HermioneWeasleylist was populist. On asking they couldn’t say which on the list actually was so I picked one which now turns out doesn’t meet the criteria for populist after all.

It doesn’t make sense after you have added to it.

Edited

Well it isn't true to suggest I couldn't say which of their list fell into the populist category. I simply chose to ignore that part of your response to me because it was irrelevant. It wasn't a sensible question. I'd given a definition of Populist so you could figure it out for yourself.

Going back to my original point, her views are Populist. They are not Centrist.

Since you've taken such offence to another poster joining in our discussion, perhaps you let @HermioneWeasley decide for herself whether I'm right or wrong about her views. 😉

No which is why I wouldn’t vote for him.

But the trouble with the lefties is that they take no notice of WHY he is so popular. He does answer questions and he does often say things that lots of people are thinking, whether the left like it or not. Like that foreigners who come and live here SHOULD pay their way, SHOULD integrate and SHOULD respect British values.

For many militant lefties the fact that I said ‘foreigners’ will make you break out in righteous indignation. But most people in the UK agree with the above without being racist, and that is why Reform get so much support. They are the only ones who say it.

OP posts:
pinotnow · 29/12/2025 20:14

Ah, so we're clear then that you don't care what the government actually does as long as they use the word 'foreigner' a lot? Are there any other words you'd like to hear more? As far as I'm aware, Reform plan to end the right to indefinite leave to remain, meaning maybe that someone who had integrated and did pay their way would have to keep reapplying. What 'British value' does that reflect, because I'm damned if I know.

What a one track mind. And you are wrong, people can believe we need to take action over immigration without agreeing with the bile spewed by reform

sleepwouldbenice · 29/12/2025 20:18

Oh and I am not a leftie
