What’s your post-Christmas house like?

Kibble19 · 27/12/2025 17:56

Is the tree down? Are the kids presents still all over your living room? Are there any corners with discarded wrapping paper still in them? How are the washing/dishes piles looking?

The leftover turkey should be gone tonight, then it’s back to work on Monday for me.

Tree still up here, no toys piled up but my youngest is 10 my other kids are grown up. It’s still very much Christmas in our house though as I’m off work until the 5th.
We still have tubs of chocolates, Pringles and other snacky bits left to to get through though. MIL went home today after being here for 3 days, DH is at the pub with friends so it’s takeaway and wine in front of the tv for me

Sleepasaurus · 27/12/2025 18:15

Tree is still up, lots of cheese left to eat but as it’s just DH and I it’s like normal but with a dash of glitter.
I’ve been working throughout.

stargirl1701 · 27/12/2025 18:17

It’s not post-Christmas, OP. It literally is Christmas.

Beautifully Christmassy here still. House full of lovely food, twinkly with lights, candles and decorations. Peaceful, relaxed and happy. I love these short quiet days between Christmas and New Year.

I think it’s really pretty obvious that I meant post-Christmas Day. 🙄

House is normal apart from the piles of chocolate and biscuits on the kitchen table. I might take the tree down tomorrow.

No kids here though, so no piles of toys.

GameOfJones · 27/12/2025 18:31

It is definitely still Christmas! We are firmly within the twelve days of Christmas.

Decorations will be up until New Year and we are working our way through the Christmas food. I literally stood in front of the fridge earlier sorting plates of snacks for dinner. "Who wants gammon.....who wants brie.....who wants quiche......who wants trifle" etc 🤣. I'm just about to open one of the bottles of prosecco our guests brought.

I've done a few loads of laundry today as I was behind on that after hosting Christmas Day and Boxing Day but other than that it is chilling out in our pyjamas, walks, long afternoon baths and catching up with the Christmas TV.

AliasGrape · 27/12/2025 18:33

Tree and decorations still up. We were relatively tidy and organised except for the Barbie dream house taking up half the living room, but we’ve been having a party this afternoon and it’s absolute chaos again. Particularly upstairs in DD’s room where she and her cousins have been camping out and seemingly pulled out every toy she owns.

Im loving it but just having a quiet 10 mins outside to take a breather after all the cooking and serving food. Won’t be a late one cos of the kids, we started at 2 and imagine people will start drifting away in the next hour or so giving me time to have a reset.

Lndnmummy · 27/12/2025 18:34

Very much Christmas here. I am milking it for as long as I can. It's such a faff to do it all so I am getting every last minute of it. Nice food, candles, music, board games, long walks, friends dropping in (both mine and my children's). Sports tournaments.
I am keeping it this way until the children go back to school. For me, Christmas starts on 1st advent and lasts until school is back.

Ineedanewsofa · 27/12/2025 18:36

Decorations are still up but everywhere is tidy, all presents have found their way to their new homes 😊 Furniture won’t be put back to ‘normal’ until Jan as we are hosting NYE, decs will come down then too. Loads of food and chocolate left still, we’ll be working through it for a good while!

DappledThings · 27/12/2025 18:37

I'll let you know on 6th January when it actually is post-Christmas. Not a speck of decorations will be down before then.

NewYearNewMee · 27/12/2025 18:37

Decorations all up, will be for another week and a bit (always dread taking them down and how sad it all feels!). House is all cosy with candles and fairy lights, lots of bowls of celebrations everywhere and cats relaxing! Just me at home reading in a blanket, feels very twixmas.

Leftovers finished on Boxing Day, everything was tidied up (no DC) on Christmas evening after guests left. Lots of sweet treats and cheese left, that’s my evening meal sorted! Hoping to do a good food shop tomorrow and refresh the fresh bits in the fridge, might go absolutely mental and do another toast tomorrow? So much promise in the air!

MyRoRe · 27/12/2025 18:40

Tree and decs still up, but they're going down before the 30th- we'll keep the lights though. Toys and wrapping paper a bit everywhere in the living room; sweets and chocolates on every table- but we're all content and relaxed; I love the feeling!

TheChosenTwo · 27/12/2025 18:44

Everything pretty tidy, no presents left downstairs in the communal areas other than ones in use. Decs are still up but coming down tomorrow, I’m looking forward to that massively.

notlisteningwithmother · 27/12/2025 18:45

Guests have left this morning and after lunch. Bed linen has been laundered, furniture returned to usual place and rooms tidied. Fridge sorted and some turkey put in freezer for a later date. Other than that, it is still Christmas - tree, lights, candles, decorations and food. I fully intend to keep it that way till twelfth night!

CatPawprints · 27/12/2025 18:45

Just got home this afternoon after spending Christmas with in-laws and extended family.

DD has scattered her presents all over the living room. Tree lights are on, candles lit. Bags yet to be unpacked. I've nipped to shop and bought all the Christmas food on offer. Then had a long bath before getting into fresh pjs.

We're ready to settle into a week of at-home Christmas. A few days of cosy quiet after a very sociable week.

BlueWorkDay · 27/12/2025 18:48

Decorations and tree still up.

Fridge looking a lot more clear (I see shelf!!).

Most presents put away except a pile on the kitchen table (DD's) which we plan to address this evening.

Three loads of washing done, slowly drying in the sunroom.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 27/12/2025 18:49

Tree came down yesterday. Back at work on Monday or rather back to wiggling the mouse every so often whilst I have nothing to do.

I'm really struggling with boredom though, can't wait for normal tv to start again.

No kids so place is tidy.

ghostyslovesheets · 27/12/2025 18:50

Nice and tidy - 3 adult kids so no toys, but all decs and trees still up and will be into new year

Mrscharlieeeee · 27/12/2025 18:51

Tree and decs are still up but I did take the cards down today. All presents are in their owners bedrooms and will be found homes soon. Kitchen has been thoroughly cleaned and is back to normal and I hoovered and dusted the living room today. Kids bedrooms need a good fettle but will do that tomorrow, along with the bathrooms. The tree will come down on Friday.

FuglyBitch · 27/12/2025 18:51

Tree and decorations still up, very festive and Christmassy here still with candles and fairy lights on.
Still eating Christmas food, but everything is tidy, I love this time of the year.

pinkcow123 · 27/12/2025 18:52

I have 2 under 5’s. Toys are everywhere, feels like I tidy them up and they come back again.

Tree and decs came down today. I’d love for them to be here longer… but the tree makes me house feel small and it was making it harder to find homes for new toys 🙈

Middlemarch123 · 27/12/2025 19:03

I’ve taken the decks down in my cottage after returning home staying at my DDs overnight, only because my cats have been rehearsing for the World Cup playing football with the baubles. My DS and his GF have had enough of rehanging them. They knocked down the cards too. We still have a fridge full of food, more chocolate than Hotel Chocolate, and booze to last everyone into the New Year. The cats have their stockings to finish, salmon treats, Dreamies and cat nip sprouts!

Am back at work tomorrow, walking doggies. At least I won’t need to think about meal preparation for a few days.

Justcallmedaffodil · 27/12/2025 19:05

Tree and outside lights still up (will come down on the 31st), but all other inside decorations have come down today. Christmas jumpers, socks, etc all washed and dried and back in their place in the loft. Likewise Christmas games, now that family have all gone home. By some miracle we hosted fairly accurately this year food and drinks wise, so apart from the pile of sweets and chocolate DS has been bought, we don’t have lots to get through. He’ll likely be going at his pile until at least Easter! All presents are in their places and the house is clean and tidy. This is my happy place until back to work on the 6th.

TamarindCottage · 27/12/2025 19:06

Our tree went up last Sunday so it’s still up and will be until 5 Jan. Floors are all clean and our kitchen is spotless. We’re mostly spending Twixtmas in pyjamas and are going for long walks every other day
