I've ruined someone in Aldi's Christmas!! Apparently

Just been to Aldi to get some stuff. Went to get some smoked salmon. It was a want not a need.
I went to the chiller cabinet and opened the door to get some salmon. There was a couple standing close looking but not opening the door. I opened the door and took the last 2 packets I could see.

After I took them I heard ' why didn't you open the door before her? That's now Christmas ruined!'

They then followed me closely round the next couple of aisles saying ' we have no smoked salmon, what are we going to do?' While glaring at me!

Not my fault! Also it's an industrial park there us also a sainsbury/ lidl and m&s nearby.

Maybe I'm a horrible person but I found it quite funny!

Snooze you lose.

Arlanymor · 23/12/2025 14:13

Well you haven't the slow door opener did! Have they not shopped in a supermarket before? Find a member of staff and ask if there is any out the back - if not find another supermarket. Did they really follow you around? If so people are bloody weird, what do they expect you to do, capitulate?

Icouldwriteabookonmydisastrouslife · 23/12/2025 14:14

What a lovely life they must lead if all it takes is some salmon to ruin their Christmas …

Some people have to contend with having beans on toast and children waking up to no presents from Santa coz their parents are so skint ..

or I got a notice last week to leave my property after Christmas, that ruined my Christmas …

if only we had their lives hey ?!

MyThreeWords · 23/12/2025 14:16

Of course it's not your fault. But it sounds like you weren't that bothered whether you had salmon or not. In those circs I'd have been tempted to give one of the packs to the couple.

Would have helped me to start to feel a bit Christmassy.

SarahAndQuack · 23/12/2025 14:18

People go bonkers at Christmas.

I once watched someone scoop up all the remaining packs of chipolatas in the supermarket on the 24th - quite obviously to go with a meal for a large number of people; she had a loaded trolley with lots of big volumes - and someone else followed her around trying to persuade her to 'share' and saying things like 'but how can you need all of them? Won't you just let me have one or two?' Eventually the chancer stomped off declaring loudly that 'some people are very greedy'.

Naala · 23/12/2025 14:18

As if they followed you around! I wonder if they were planning to steal it from your trolley.

Agree

Nevertriedcaviar · 23/12/2025 14:21

Christmas ruined because of a lack of smoked salmon? Do they wrap it up and put it under the tree for the children?

Me too unless they were being really obnoxious

Flowerslamp · 23/12/2025 14:24

My son works in a Tesco Express and was told multiple times last Christmas that he personally had ruined Christmas because they didn't have sprouts/brandy butter/the right box of chocs/xyz at 8pm on Christmas Eve.

He's excited to find out why he's ruined Christmas this year.

PatThePenguin · 23/12/2025 14:26

They followed you around the store instead of asking a member of staff if there was any more?

Yeah I've done this before when it's a want rather than a need.

Or even split them so there's one each.

This. And I fail to see how it was funny either.

REP22 · 23/12/2025 14:33

They "ruined" their own Christmas with their dithering. Not your fault. I don't think it's that funny though.

greenwithglee · 23/12/2025 14:34

I'm pregnant so can't have smoked salmon this christmas. It's shit.

LittleBitofBread · 23/12/2025 14:35

AnotherNaCha · 23/12/2025 14:19

Agree

There's several other supermarkets in the vicinity though.

grinchmcgrinchface · 23/12/2025 14:37

Maybe they were hoping youd give them one packet? Tis the season for sharing and all that.

Please come back and tell us how your son has ruined Christmas. I am sure the reasons are many, varied and possible even quite idiotic.

LadyKenya · 23/12/2025 14:41

TallulahBetty · 23/12/2025 14:39

Oh unclench.

Nothing of the sort going on here. Do you find the OP's 'story' funny? If so, how sad. The season of good will, to all!

Heyhelga · 23/12/2025 14:42

Put a can of tinned salmon in their trolley when they aren't looking.

Kleptronic · 23/12/2025 14:42

Someone did this to me over a cheeseboard in Sainsbos year before last, but I did give it to her because I wasn't that arsed and she never spoke, just looked crestfallen. She thanked me profusely and said her daughter would have killed her if she's come back without one. Which seems an overreaction but there we are. I saved her liiiiife!

drivinmecrazy · 23/12/2025 14:45

Not as bad as my Christmas!
it’s been ruined cos had a call from my fishmonger to say he’d got me whole crabs instead of crab claws at fish market this morning.
So, thinking on my feet I went to numerous supermarkets to find a couple of frozen lobsters. Can’t find any for love nor money.
So that’s our day ruined.
We do however have three packets of lovely Scottish smoked salmon I’d had the forethought to pick up last week.

Ah well, thems the breaks 😞 😝

NuffSaidSam · 23/12/2025 14:46

I assume that one of their children (probably Tiny Tim) had asked Santa for just one thing...a pack of Aldi brand smoked salmon.

Shame on you OP. You'll see this again no doubt when the ghosts visit you. You'll find yourself in Aldi with the Ghost of Christmas Present watching yourself snaffle up the last of the smoked salmon.

Sounds like you’ve ruined your own Christmas there then @greenwithgleeGrin
