A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Is it true that one in five - presumably of those asked - said they would vote Reform? That doesn't really seem worth the headlines it seems to have generated.

Yes, 2/10 voting Reform. But 3/10 unable to choose. As many posters said, surely the politically homeless are the bigger story here?

Can’t see the bolded bit post but it’s because since 2009 Labour have topped the poll, even when not in gov.

And for the first time it’s not them.

But it also isn't Reform, as the other / don't know are higher!

That’s always been pretty high. Apart from a brief dip.

EmeraldRoulette · 07/01/2026 20:57

Thanks @NoWordForFluffy @EasternStandard

Reform could get some excellent headlines just from some of the thread titles then! The thread titles I've seen could've been posted by somebody from their PR 😂

The undecideds leave a lot to play for - and it is a long time till the next election.

What is amazing and highly believable, is that since 2009 this site has learned towards Labour. It is amazing, that supposed educated people believed that a party in that time headed up by the likes of Jeremy Corbyn, Ed Milliband where the best Party for Government. I do think many on this site have not moved on maturity wise from their University days and the fact that it was not cool to espouse the views from the Tories or the right. Hence, the one sided group think with anyone disagreeing running the risk of being find 'Guilty' of being a 'Witch' and being sentenced by the 'morality' Police and (Mumsnet HQ) to removal from this site.. This, being the case in the past where 'real' world views have been reported and subsequently ended with the poster banned, by the establishment posters on here.

Just because they change their names, does not mean we don't know who there are and the 'Political' sway they seem to have with authorities on this site.

There, has always been two tier managing of posts on here, however recently I don't think the management has been so obvious. I wonder if threads like these where we are looking for common cause, rather than obnoxious debate among people is a reason for a more measured approach by the management.

I like to think that Justine has handed the Labour mob a noose. Wishful thinking perhaps, but they haven't helped themselves. Best leave them too it. 😁

They have shown EXACTLY why posters have moved away from Labour on here. Yes policy hasn’t helped by neither has the bullying that’s happen on this site which is why this thread is needed. As you say, don’t interrupt when making a mistake. It’s a good example of how anything not Labour has been closed down…until now. They just can’t see it themselves.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 07/01/2026 22:23

One issue, surely, is that people will put up with patronising lectures, virtue signalling and ‘progressive’ social policy from a party when it’s in opposition, but not when it’s in government.

It enrages a lot of people trying to pay the bills to hear bullshit about Chagos or trail hunting or Erasmus or Palestine, etc etc.

The realities of government have hit Labour, and the realities of being governed by Labour have hit the voters.

EmeraldRoulette · 07/01/2026 22:28

@DenizenOfAisleOfShame I was on a thread where people were very excited about Erasmus

I think I did one or two posts and then gave up. I don't think I pointed out what deals have been turned down before as poor value.

I genuinely respect everybody's point of view - so some people think that is a good use of money. I'm not one of those people. But I wasn't going to carry on going on about it on the thread. Rather just respectfully disagree.

I actually worry that a lot of the undecided will go for Labour but as I've mentioned before, I do see support for them in my social circle. I don't have a big social circle but just saying, it's out there in the real world.

That’s a good point.

More in Common:

Reform 31 (+3)
Conservative 23 (+1)
Labour 19 (-2)
LibDems 12 (-1)
Greens 10 (+1)

Hopefully we'll see more clear water between Conservatives and Labour as we move towards May.

Upstartled · 08/01/2026 09:20

Luke Tryl highlighting the reform/tory vote share of 54% which is a new combined high. It'll be interesting if this sticks.

Looking better good one, keep that gap growing

Upstartled · 08/01/2026 09:54

Yes, let's hope so. I think that people are getting a front row seat of the economic vandalism labour will perpetuate to meet their ideological goals. There will be another round of that in April, when madness of the autumn budget kicks in.

TheNuthatch · 08/01/2026 10:12

Excellent, thanks @Upstartled.
That combined vote share is becoming more important by the day.

One of the threads I was watching was deleted overnight. I can't say too much (taat) but it was about calling out others for their views. I didn't participate, and didn't read all of it.

The MN deletion message caught my eye as it contained the following sentence:

Our guidelines re conduct haven't changed, and are not contingent on a particular politics.

Has anyone seen this before from MN, or is it new?

TheNuthatch · 08/01/2026 10:32

Oh fgs. 🙄 Extracts have been released (guardian) from the speech Starmer is giving today re two child cap. He is expected to say:

'Nigel Farage seems intent on linking arms with the Conservatives in a cruel alliance to push kids who need help back into poverty. This child poverty pact is something that should worry us all. These aren’t numbers on a spreadsheet – these are children’s life chances at stake'.

This from the man who was dragged, kicking and screaming into lifting the cap by his backbenchers. The Guardian also point to previous statements made by Starmer arguing that the cap should stay in place, "tough decision" etc. Hypocrite.

OP posts:
DancingFerret · 08/01/2026 10:32

Did anyone else who watched yesterday's PMQs pick up on Starmer's swift deflection from the question about defence spending to how Labour had spent so much to lift children out of poverty?

The issue of Greenland isn't confined to the US, and Putin is more than capable of cutting vital undersea cables (and much more) in retaliation for the capture of the rogue Venezuelan oil tanker - yet Labour bats off the question of national security as if its an inconsequential trifle.

I haven’t seen that before, I missed the thread so not sure of why they’d say it. I have a feeling mnhq are getting fed up too with level of harassment from some quarters on who can post and what they should post.

Yes I noticed. Although he deflected almost everything else put to him aswell. He seems to be desperately trying to garner some cheers from behind him. They weren't forthcoming.

Its rather inconvenient for Starmer that he couldn't even commit to a date for 3% at the same time as committing troops to Ukraine, and helping the US seize oil tankers being escorted by a Russian sub. He's out of his depth and it showed yesterday.

No, I haven't seen that before. That's quite distinct.

I've missed a lot of the threads that followed from the political poll but I can imagine exactly how they went.

You'd have thought they'd have had quite the education on the counter productive direction that follows from reflexively calling people bigots but, as I have said before, they clearly find it personally satisfying enough to justify the outcome.

I can't remember the exact figures but the majority of the public were against the lifting of the two child cap, I'm not sure Starmer is doing himself any favours by inferring that is a cruel position.

Weren't they trying to package the Chagos debacle under defence spending? Surely that shit show should be doing some heavy lifting?
