A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It's the same 5-10 posters usually. Or useful idiots who just copy and paste lists of 'good' things done by Labour without actually considering how they're going / the economic effect of the policy.

My favourite in recent days was people celebrating the FTSE 100. That’s driven by global growth. You can have a toxic UK economy and a thriving FTSE 100. The jobs market and consumer confidence all prove how everything is going down the pan. The FTSE 250 is what you need to look at and that’s underperforming in comparison. People don’t actually know what they are looking for. It’s all a bit embarrassing.

I will add I’m grateful to anyone sticking in there. When there’s pile ons it can be fuck it this place is bizarrely diehard Labour and not bother. I want more to read than that hope people are not so put off posting if they see others doing it.

I’m always pleased when someone stands up for themselves or others against the hectoring.

I think people just white noise it all now. It is ALWAYS the same people and when one turns up, they all arrive and it’s just so predictable now, people just drown it out and carry on the discussions. That was harder when it was say 30 odd people.

They're like sea lions, just clapping along at everything they perceive as 'good', but without context!

Mine is the same (new Labour intake at the last GE). Idiot man.

CambridgeSingers · 04/01/2026 12:56

‘Mediocre youngsters’ - delightful eh? Isn’t it the job of parents and educators to try and build confidence and give every child their best life chance?

labour won’t change their poll numbers until they change the sneering - no sign of that with the education policy - they’ve delayed it but they’ve still not learned that fundamentally, they’re wrong and nobody wants that reform.

In many circumstances a successful FT 100 Market hides the effects in the real World. Thus, when the 'economy' is booming for normal people, the FT can sustain some real loses in its value. The FT 100/250 have no correlation to normal peoples daily lives , or to peoples businesses like this

Exactly. The FTSE 100 is global business registered in London. Most of its revenue is global. Economists use the FTSE 250 to try and gauge the state of the UK economy as it’s more focused on UK revenue but still not enough for it to be a clear indicator.

Another local business has just closed near me. Hospitality and retail. Again. The private sector is dying because of Labour policy. Those that can’t see it are shielded from it.

redange · 04/01/2026 13:07

Following on from my previous post, the two people concerned have just been on Talk Radio explaining that 11 people have lost their jobs. The, Rates rise went from £10,000 to £33,000 a year . 11 peoples benefit will be more than £22,000 the Government tried to 'extort' from this couple. Reeves and co are clearly 'clueless' in understanding simple economics.

This, is where Lord 'Richard Walker' is supposed to be able to explain to the Government about the costs of running 'family' business, considering his great insight in to them !

He, is a complete T for someone who makes his money from food retailing and from inheriting a family to not actively Support Farming or to oppose new IHT and family business transfers. Then, again to want to represent this 'Shower' you have got be a Ars**

What about?

The poll about voting Reform over Labour for the first time since 2009. Which was said to be marked for a site known for Guardian readers (their words).

It was on LBC too, quite a bit of PR.

redange · 04/01/2026 14:00

How many Children did Labour expect to leave the Independent School sector was it 15,000.

25,000 of been forced to leave in these schools alone. It will be very interesting to see what the numbers of children in private schools 2023- 2025 are
More than 100 private schools forced to close after Labour's controversial tax raid on fees (msn.com)

I am also considering put a thread up on AIBU:

'To be incredibly grateful to the Labour Government, for ensuring no Oik will ever be seen again in my son's Public School !'

Tobias, and I are indebted to Rachel, Bridget and Kier for ensuring firstly my Son Tobias was not unduly put out by the Common Entrance Exam, because there were more than enough places to go around thanks to Public Schools being charged in the same way as a Private Yacht..

Secondly, my son will never have to explain 'Apres ski' in Meribel to anyone in Prep again ! I can't tell you how distressing that was for Tobias .

Finally, to all those in the Labour Government, you have guaranteed a Grandson can follow his Father and Grandfather in to their 'spiritual' home without having to worry how to get 70% on the Common Entrance.

P.S I have enclosed a Small donation to the Labour Party. To be spent on those Poor souls, who have to enter the 'State Workhouse Schools'

For a long time now anything not of “the right opinion” has been shut down. I think people are tired and sick of it. Especially when people are facing real life consequences of Labour’s actions. MN is and ad based site. It can’t have the majority (see polls) chased off the site by an ever increasing minority. It needed to get the message out that it’s not a Labour echo chamber IMO.

The thread about the poll is very telling. Some wear their intolerance with such pride.

Thats an interesting take. Do you think this could be MN deliberately trying to widen it's appeal?
I suppose it wouldn't last long if it was just seen as only welcoming for Labour voters in the current climate.

I do think that’s possible yes. Look, we all now how awful it can be on here for non Labour supporters. Hence this thread. People were run off threads, goaded, bullied off, gang reported, etc. It did happen and still does to a certain point. However, the numbers are much smaller on here now. However, the abuse and divisive rhetoric remains. Try questioning welfare spending, the percentage of sickness claims, VAT on school fees, etc. The abuse comes pouring out. If you have a valid point, posters then begin to circle, go off topic and all round up together. God forbid you’re a higher earner or business owner, who wants to ask a question or has concerns about the economy or policy.

People are seriously annoyed and disillusioned in real life. MN has not reflected that for a while because anyone who dared question the status quo was chased off and told their voice didn’t count. 88% ish of people don’t think Labour are doing a good job. That’s a huge chunk of people to drive away.

Fair point, well made.

Agree with all your examples. Yeah it is still happening, albeit on a smaller scale.

Yes absolutely to all that.

It’s interesting that Justine et al did big press on this, on a fair few radio stations. I think losing the Labour majority vote in a poll after that many years is politically significant and the press think so too.

It might bring more people in, I guess we’ll see there.

Yes thankfully. Against a lot of effort to ensure that didn’t happen.
