A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙* *

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It’s frightening isn’t it!
I started that thread but only just realised I’d changed usernames from this thread. I’m torn between leaving it alone but just so curious how they will tie themselves in knots next time.

You’re absolutely right with ‘gaslighting.’

I can’t even with it. When it comes down to it it’s pure spite and privilege. Not everyone can have it so no-one can. That money isn’t coming to schools. It’s costing schools. Hence all of the cuts. That money has gone to recruit teachers has it, with the huge cuts to bursaries. It’s all lies.

In the meantime they’ve made private schooling the preserve of the ultra rich. The working class who have done well and could barely afford it? Out you go peasants. Those who were failed hugely by state and made huge sacrifices to move their children because of therapy/bullying/SEND? Sorry, you don’t deserve an education you can access. Your parents must be rich. See ya, these schools are for only the most upper of classes now. Absolutely NUTS that anyone thinks that’s progressive. They are so blinded by spite they can’t see the issues.

I have broken their toff radars I am afraid. I grew up in poverty, FSM. My children have and are going to state and I’ve always taught in state. The school I’m in has very high FSM. I think it’s a hugely spiteful policy that has caused damaged to social mobility and some children with no benefit to others. Not sure what happened to every child matters.

I think a lot of it is just gaslighting at this point. It’s not surprising given Starmer and Reeves use it daily.

Where they go, supporters follow.

It is gaslighting. It’s also ignorance for the most part. It’s easy to be sheltered on welfare and public sector final salary pensions. You’re oblivious to the actual reality now.

I can’t even. Tg for this thread is what I’ll say 😬

TheNuthatch · 31/12/2025 09:48

@Legolava Of course its spite. I have yet to see a single positive impact from this policy. There is no plausible explanation for it, other than socking it to The Rich.
Except its not The Rich who have lost out.

I will be very happy to see PS Vat scrapped when Labour are booted out.

People can’t answer the one positive. I’ve not seen any positive impact or rise in funding. Just cuts, cuts and more cuts. No-one can actually say how making private schooling more elitist is positive. It’s 100% as you say. Purely irrational and spiteful.

Some have a mean / spiteful streak, Labour have used it this time as there wasn’t much else.

It’ll be good when it goes.

I think their heads might explode if they contemplate that they've actually contributed to making private schools even more elite.
Consequences are not their strong suit in my experience.

Honestly for a few nothing would shift them. Labour could do a whole range of things that were increasingly batshit and they’d be here batting for them.

MN is very odd for Labour support.

I think the pandemic was the changer, more public sector, it’s the same now whereas pretty much everywhere else is fed up with Labour and loathes Starmer.

It’s like a trauma response. They just can’t see they’ve contributed to the levelling down of some children. There is no levelling up. The money isn’t coming to the most deprived schools let me tell you!

Some might be honest enough to admit this, I can think of a few that wouldn’t ever just because it’s Starmer and co

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 31/12/2025 10:58

On the subject of the Fabian Society, I have to admit that I cannot see anything sinister about it. It’s just a middle class left-wing posers club.

If you’re left-wing and fancy yourself as a great thinker, you’re likely to be a member of the Fabians.

Fabians are risible, but harmless.

Pacificsunshine · 31/12/2025 11:01

I tend to agree. It seems like a Left wing think tank, quite open about its goals and positions. Interesting that they feel the need to draw a line between themselves and the Greens.

redange · 31/12/2025 12:15

I do not think the Fabian Society is harmless in any way. It is a Malignant organisation that since its founding in 1895 at LSE has dictated Labour Party policy. There, was a time in the Labour Party when Fabianism was questioned, due to there being members of Freemasonry evident in the party. This, had the effect of counteracting some 'internationalist' Socialist ideologies and bringing the Labour party into in-acting policies that favored local people rather than transnational Socialist intentions.

Today, the Fabians are highly influential in how this Government is governing and will make changes highly difficult to make post 'General Election' by a more British Focused Government.

Pacificsunshine · 31/12/2025 12:17

I don’t agree with them, but I think they are entitled to their opinions. They are free to try to influence the direction of the country.

Maybe we need more effective think tanks on the centre right?

I don’t mind.

I welcome visits from our Labour friends. And as you’ll know from this thread, I also don’t think the Fabians are bad people. They’re not like those dangerous front outfits like Stop the War.

The 'Fabians' tried to recruit me in my first term at Keele University, young impressionable and Autistic, I was ripe for the taking. Coming, home the first time with all these progressive wonderful ideas, my dad threatened to stop all 'funding' for University.... The, love affair for me with Fabianism lasted about 3 months full stop.

The, presentation of moderate and slow progression of activation of society changing policy platform, is deliberate and extremely damaging. It is a far more dangerous movement than other left wing organisations, due to the fact on the outside, their polices look 'relatively' moderate in relation to other left wing groups. This, is the dangerous part they become more 'extremist' by hiding behind Socialist Worker , Green Party and Extinction Rebellion. Therefore, in doing so are able to in-act the desires of the 'Radical' left ideology from 20 years ago. The, left are always 'espousing' policies that are 20 years in the future. Hence, 20 years ago the current Government and their agenda would have been deemed 'extreme' even by the Mainstream Media !

I am now away for NYE...

I was thinking just the other day that making private education even more expensive means that the rich cream rises to the top. Will one day be running the country business wise.

Everyone else with minimum wage rising annually will just be cogs in the machine serving the elite or on benefits. It's chilling.
